Dude went from dragging ass to chasing dragons. Can you imagine being those Soviet soldiers at that campsite though? They're just sitting there minding their own, thinking about how they're going to have to report that the enemy escaped, then this dude in Finnish gear bursts through the trees vibrating like he's trying to enter the Speedforce, he looks around and then he just books it into the woods and I can only imagine he's leaving a six-foot rooster-tail of snow behind him like something out of SledStorm while screaming the lyics to Dragula.

Now Finland is a member of NATO one of the best trained and equipped Armies in Europe. For almost 90 years of armed neutrality out the window, thank you Vlad "the corrupted" Putin! As for Major Larry Thorne, aka Lauri Torni, he rests in Arlington. No small thing!

I think you need to complete your trilogy of over the top Finnish soldiers from World War II. Lauri Tourni, aka Larry Thorne, aka the Soldier of Three Armies. Hated the commies so bad, he joined three different armies to do it. Including the U.S. Army Green Berets purely on the fact that he could fight better than some of the guys half his age. Among the commendations and awards he earned in his career were the Finnish Mannerheim Cross 2nd class, German Iron Cross 2nd class, 2 Purple Hearts, a Distinguished Flying Cross, and a Bronze Star with V device. He was killed in action in Vietnam in 1965 when his helicopter went down. His remains were recovered in 1999 with his South Vietnamese crew's, and are interned in Arlington National Cemetery.

The 3rd Finnish soldier you should know by name. Lauri Torni. He fought for the Finns between 1938-44, was a Waffen-SS volunteer from 1944-45, and then was a US Special Forces soldier from 1954-65. He was KIA in Vietnam and is the only former Waffen-SS soldier buried in Arlington Cemetery.

So many in the comments seems to want to know about the story that won the writing contest. It's way more tragic and somber than the account of Aimo as are most of these stories though. First place of that writing contest was a written account about the last days of the winter war in Petäjäsaari (pine island), lake Ladoga and almost total destruction of the 220 Finnish men defending it, less than 20 survived almost all of them wounded. Don't know if English translation of it exists but it's called: Viimeiseen mieheen (To the last man) by Tauno Seppä and was published in Kansa taisteli (Nation fought) magazine in 1978

I mean.. they both kind of attest to the sheer grit and determination the people of Finland are capable of. One story shows their solidarity and bravery despite impossible odds, and the other shows that Finns can tank a dose of meth that would kill a horse. Either way, it would seem Finns don't die unless they're ready to. One doesn't take a Finn's life, they ask politely for it.

The man hated Communists so much that he fought in the Finnish army against the USSR in the Winter War and Continuation War, earning the Cross of Mannerheim (the Finnish equivalent of the Medal of Honor) in the process, then fought against the Soviets with the Waffen SS in WWII, earning an Iron Cross in the process, then fought in Vietnam as a Green Beret in the US Army, ultimately going down when his helicopter stuck around too long and got hit by bad weather. In total the man earned the Cross of Mannerheim, an Iron Cross, the Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts, and the Distinguished Flying Cross (though that would be awarded posthumously), and became known as the Soldier of 3 Armies, which is also the name of a pretty sick Sabaton Song about the guy

Did electronic tweakineering come out of style? I have made and seen some ingenious (sometimes perfectly working) and batshit crazy DIY electric contraptions made basically using whatever relevant know-how/information quick googling provided, wire strippers and electricians tape though sometimes (but very rarely) even soldering iron was used. Remembering apartment full of speakers, bikes, computer parts, hi-fi stereos, more or less illegal chemicals..and all those definitely hazardous DIYT (do-it-yourself-tweaked) electrocuting traps, tasers, weaponry, 💣 💥 I'm not sure if I feel nostalgic yearning for speeding but I'm grateful and lucky that nobody got killed by those works.

I messed with meth for a couple of years. My first binge on my first time smoking meth, I stayed up 21 days. Within a week or so, my vision looked like it was raining in front of my face or like the static from an old CRT TV. There was also shadow people everywhere - behind trees, in the limbs of trees, peeking around buildings, etc. The last night I was awake, I saw this demon dragon thing in the clouds a little after dusk and I said, "Nope. It's time for bed"... Which, going to sleep is freaking scary after about a week - it feels like you won't ever wake up or something. I would sleep for 24 hours easy back then and sometimes even more without ever waking up. I remember picking at a splinter for 19 hours straight without ever standing up once. You could really go to sleep anytime if you quit refueling for several hours but that was my first experience and I just kept going - it all feels like one long day - so I didn't even think to go to sleep. I always managed to keep my senses and I knew all the hallucinations were just bullshit - but people around me were totally spazzed out and crying and rambling and stuff over the things they were seeing. Meth gave me energy but I supposedly have ADHD so it also made me really calm - like I could either tweak on electronics, dumpster dive, get into random mischief or sit down by the fire and read a book. Weird - all types of speed have always affected me like that. Glad to be away from it though - it devours your soul among everything else. Don't do drugs kids - it may look cool while your friends are doing it but the other part that you haven't seen yet is the withdrawal when you run out of money or can't find your drug - cold sweats and shivering in a pool of your sweat not feeling like sleeping or being awake or existing or doing anything while feeling like you have the worst flu you've ever had with a simultaneous massive panic attack and depending on the drug, your bones hurt and it feels like your limbs are being pulled off - and in the worst of cases, you might lose control of your bowels or bladder and so on. So, not just some old person saying, "Drugs aren't cool - just say no" - you eventually get to a pathetic and objectively uncool state - opioid withdrawal was probably the worst thing I've ever been through that just affected my own mind and body - like the death of loved ones rivals it but in a different way. But as far as anything only affecting my own person/body, opioid withdrawal still gives me chills to think about. But the meth, I think, gave me sleep apnea and extending from that, my life has been fucked ever since quitting everything. So really, it's your life and your business or whatever but, if you've never done drugs, you are a lucky MFer - and I highly advise you to keep it that way... I'm a walking anti-drug campaign ever since quitting everything lol...

I really enjoy what you are doing. I decided I needed to contribute and bought two shirts. It’s never a war crime the first time and Cassius Clay. I am pretty good at history but the Cassius Clay story blew my mind. Keep it up brother. AATW!
