No one is talking about how the lyrics were changes to reflect roman water clocks, where it the dripping of water was used to see time elapsed! That's an incredible detail

@@Draco-oi9bbOne of the original lyrics is "Time is a valuable thing/watch it fly by as the pendulum swings". Romans didn't use pendulum clocks (hadn't been invented yet) but clocks where the flow of water was used to mark the passage of time. So he changed the lyrics to "watch it fly by as the water drips".

Latin flowed a little too easily with how many words ended in the same way, so Poetic skill was placed in finding ways to make things not rhyme, while still getting the image across. What an absolutely fantastic little song. One thing I noticed after going through some of your other work is how much more confident your voice is while singing it. It projects so much nicer and really takes its place in the music. Not that it was ever bad! Just it's nice to really feel like the vocals are shining as much as they should, you have an amazing voice and it works so well.

One of the few things in my life I am proud of is my Latin degree. It's just a minor added to my main degree, but four years of grammar and translation taught by a man in his 80s who had taught Latin since the 1950s kinda sticks with you. I can follow this. It's grammatically very good, and I doubt I could have done better.

This made me cry because it reminded me of a friend of mine who loved Latin who chose to end her life almost three weeks ago and that song describe how I feel and how I think she felt in the end. Edit from 24/08/2023: my old phone died yesterday and with it I lost the text conversation we had and that I kept. It’s like losing her once again. I don’t have anything physical that links me to her. I only have memories and I fear that they’ll fade with time.

I'm sorry for your loss. Songs stay sung. "Every life is a brief bright spark, while some may curse the dark and mourn the flame, the things they showed us still remain." -Zoe Mulford "Songs Stay Sung" has helped me through much mourning. I wish you fairer seas to come, bright Stardust.
