If you want to know more about Lea I highly recommend watching TV special that was done in 2018. There are interviews with Lea, her friends, family and colleagues and you learn about her life and career. Lea started performing at age 7 in the Philippines (as a child in THE KING AND I) and played her first leading role at age 9 (ANNIE). Her first album was released at age 10 and was certified gold. Lea hosted a musical tv show with her brother called "Love, Lea" from ages 12-14. Through her childhood and teens Lea recorded albums, did concerts (she opened for Menudo and Stevie Wonder in the Philippines), did film, TV and theater. She was in her first year of college (age 17) when she auditioned for MISS SAIGON and got the lead role. She starred in MISS SAIGON in London starting at 18 and won the Olivier Award at age 19. She went to Broadway with the show at age 20 and won the Tony (first Asian actress to win), Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Theatre World Awards. She was the first Asian woman to play Eponine on Broadway in LES MISERABLES (the character she is playing in this vid) in 1993 and she was part of the LES MISERABLES 10th Anniversary Dream Cast concert in 1995 (where this video is from). They took people from several different productions of LES MISERABLES to assemble a "dream cast" and Lea is the only person of color playing a lead.
