Hey Alex, Next year you should go to Copper Harbor, Michigan in the summer. It is a really cool place and really far way from any other civilization and is a small place with really good riding. They even have two downhill trails there! I definitely recommend it, even though I'm only 14 I've been to Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and California for mountain biking. Even with that I can honestly say Copper Harbor is the coolest place I have ever been to and some of the best riding. What really makes the place special is the atmosphere and the people there. Best place ever.

Could you do a review of a few super entry level FS bikes (like the Giant Stance etc)? As much as we would all love to drop six or seven grand on a bike, some of us have kids that like to eat. I've tried to explain to them that eating is for the weak, but they just keep head butting my balls.

Dixie...I have a 2015 Giant Stance 1. I've installed DT Swiss wheels, and changed the tires, as well as installed a few carbon parts here and there. Overall I've been quite pleased with the bike. I did have a bit of trouble with the rear brake initially but I think it was poorly adjusted by the shop I purchased it from. From my perspective, I don't think you could go wrong with a Stance, provided you're not looking for a dedicated downhill bike.

I have a scott genius 720 plus size. i'll tell anyone who'll listen how brilliant plus tyres are, especially on rocky technical trails. you mentioned you were 5ft 10in and riding a large frame, I'm 6ft 2in and I ride a large frame, albeit with a slightly longer stem than most. I find a smaller frame is much more agile and fun on the downhill sections of a trail than the XL.

Great demo video... really informative and fun! What pressure were you running in the tires before you dinged the rim? When and if you get the chance, you should demo a Santa Cruz Hightower in both the 29er and 27.5+ versions. I'd be interested in your impressions.

Congrats for 10k man,and did you consider upgrading your gopro or whatever cam you are using to one thats able to do 60fps? I think it would improve the quality a lot. Great video nonetheless :)
@BlindstuffMTB
@BlindstuffMTB 8 жыл бұрын
60 fps + KZbin unfortunately mean a lot compression artifacts due to insufficient bitrate. While it'll look a lot better as origin footage, after KZbin compression it tends to look worse for videos with trees, leaves and high speed. I used to export my ride videos at 60fps and switched to 30fps because the end result looks better on YT.

I personally am not crazy about the plus size bikes at the moment, the reverse compatibility on most manufacturers is not there ( you cant run a 2.3 inch tire for example on a 27.5 inch wheel practically although possible) I think there is a sweet spot for most applications, in general 3.0 tires are overkill for all but snow, loose sand etc. The larger the tire volume at the same weight as a smaller tires less volume equates to weak sidewalls and bouncing at higher speeds. If you get a tire at 3.0 with stronger sidewalls you then have more weight, which you loose some of the maneuverability and snappy handling. SO it is possible as tire technology progresses we could be using larger tires for DH. For now I have been happy on 2.4 inch tires this whole season and have ridden a huge variety of terrain. I would run a 2.5 , 2.6 and maybe even a 2.8 in some instances. To summarize i think plus sized bikes and tires could be very helpful for beginner mountain bikers, as mentioned above they have a few applications where they are a good choice, but at the moment just a FEW, perhaps not enough for an all round mountain biker with one bike.. Until tire technology catches up ill be on 2.4-2.6 the early part of the season, pedaling up and down.
@klassyken
@klassyken 7 жыл бұрын
One more thing, would you rather run the Yeti SB5 with a 2.6 tire or a Yeti SB5 plus with a 2.8 tire?

Is their any way you can review a 26+ Jamis DragonSlayer Pro? I really want to develop a solid skill base before buying a full suspension bike. I've ridden 29's before but I feel them harder to maneuver. A 26+ would be like a 27.5 but with more traction and stability.

When I take out a the bike I assume responsibility for major damages like that even though I got the demo free of charge. I actually used the plus hardtail for a school project which involved a lot of jumping, best school project ever! hi, great video. But could you make review of bike too, I mean components, close view on fork, system etc. I custom my bike and it's interesting what high end bikes have

Hey Maks, I won't be getting into that much detail in my bike demos. These are more of a first impression and feel as opposed to full bike reviews. Check out the description though as I put a link to the full specs along with complete picture of the bike you can check out

Thanks. I mean not full review, just short one, just show on a camera close view main parts. Just how it looks in real world, not at the stand.

The diameter of a plus size 27,5 is not the size of a 29“ inch. On top of that, dont forget to bring the Tire sag into the calculation. You have way more Tire sag on the plus Tire, this decreases the Tire diameter Even more.

I went with the Yeti SB5+ and love it. It's really fun! My go to MTB. Climbs like a goat, flows through the trails, and want's to launch off jumps. Perfect for me on the sand and loose over hard-pack around yee ole riding grounds of Alifia. You're welcome to try another test ride, next time you're back in town.

Probably the 29. They are so fast and still nimble

Alex as you and I ride the same bike I'm always interested in comparison. The bike I'd like to demo is the Evil Wreakoning 29 .if you have a minute check out Luke Strobal absolutely hammering it on KZbin.Also the Scott Genius LT it has twin lock gadget for different suspension settings!!!

Herkus Rudzinskas under $1000 a nice hardtail is a way better route than a crappy fs, generally speaking anyway.

SFBiking No offense, but no. Here our roots are too much, its too easy to slip. I would try like, a walmart bike FOR NOW until you got another grand and then get a decemt fs bike. Diamondback atroz doesnt look terrible, theirs a guy ridijg one at rmill and it looked pretty dope
@skibikeride2000
@skibikeride2000 7 жыл бұрын
I live in a pretty rocky part of new England. If you're new to mountain biking then get a hardtail, and use it to hone your skills. When you upgrade to a full suspension you'll feel incredibly fast and smooth. A full suspension is tempting but at that price point you'll probably be pretty unhappy with it
@herkusr01
@herkusr01 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'll probably try for a hardtail with plus tires for more cushion
