Pretty much agree with most of your points here. Your info is useful for my prep. Thanks.

All valid points, it's all about the lifestyle one chooses. With the family in particular with kids, the country has many things to offer 1. summer: lots of sports, water sports and open outdoor (camping, cottage, etc) 2. Winter : Sking, snowboarding, skating ice-fishing, with still plentiful of indoor activites. It's all about an open mind-set and willing to step outside, with covid it's been tough but hope when things get better your family can explore around. Even in RH/MH, there are plenty of things to do for the kids.. (got 3 myself =)

Happiness and enjoyment do have a price to pay! its costs money. Do you know how much it costs to do a downhill ski this day? $79.00 for adults and Teenagers is 59.00. food cost and gasoline? That’s only for the rich people to enjoy. You can meet lots of foreign visitors!

I love Canada, winter and all. It is my country and it gave me everything I have. It is a huge country and lots to offer.
好多人話加拿大沒有種族歧視或者沒有遇到過,但係我上個月到加拿大第一日就遇到一家香港人係superstore被人話(exact word): go back to where you come from, what are you doing on my land. 不過好彩好快保安就拉人走,可能加拿大情況沒有美國嚴重,不過千萬不要有不切實際的幻想。ps so far我都係中意加拿大,大部分人都friendly

Home is where your heart is. When I was 28 came here with young kids and wife, with money able to buy a house, find a job similar I did from Hong Kong. Kids went to school well and my wife stayed home to look after my kinds, I settled down in Canada nicely. People asked me that time, I told them I am in heaven (Canada). After 32 years, my kids growth up and have their family already moved out many years. I am still working in a corporate company regular pay check every 2 weeks. My wife now is working part-time because she was too boring after all of kids moved out. I don't feel Canada is good or i feel exciting as when I was young due to the followings. (too cold in winter, too quite, too lonely - 「好山好水好無聊). Now I understand lot of old immigration they always said want to go back to the place they born. Myself and my wife want to go back Asia countries to see their city vibes, more people and feel about the tropical weather. We want to go out sweating every day. Conclusion - Is Canada a good country to live? Yes or no depends who/when/where you ask the questions? There are no right or wrong answer.
I'm thinking about moving to Canada, but what's the main difference for Vancouver and Toronto? Where is more accessible without a car? Thanks!

Weather is a big difference between vancouver and toronto. vancouver has milder winters and cooler summers, toronto has colder and more snowy winters and hotter summers. I cant speak for accessibility in vancouver as i live in toronto. but if you live in toronto (not the surrounding suburbs ie markham, mississauga, vaughan, richmond hill, etc), it is generally pretty easy to access public transit. problem is our city design is like #... so you take a bus that runs east-west, and then change to a north-south bus to get to your destination. there are generally no direct buses like in HK where 98,101,104, 111, all stop at 1 stop and different routes take you to different places. However, toronto itself is older, you'll find older homes for the same price as the suburbs, higher rent depending how close you are to the subway line. etc. hope that helps. that being said, cars are more affordable compared to hk, aside from downtown toronto and near the subway line, there are free parking at most places, roads are wider, parking spots are wider.
I like this sentenance「好山好水好無聊」I immigrated from Hong Kong to Canada for more than 32 years. My kids grown up in here and now moved out and have their own family for many year. When my kids are young, I used to travel in Europe and North America to have exposure difference from Asian. Today, I just want to travel Asian countries only to feel the Asian city vibes. I don't like Europe and America anymore. Too boring to go those countries.

@@chenchen5239 Yes, I am still at Canada. when I was 28, my heart was in Canada. Today I don't know where is my heart. I don't feel Canada is my home but I have lived in here for more than 32 years. Where is my home? I don't know. 施家 said 冬天暖過香港, he must be kidding. He must talk about indoor. There is no surprise new immigrant have a lot of bias and they don't see the meaning or have the feeling of "好山好水好無聊".
I can speak and write Cantonese but somehow my PC won't let me; anyways: If you are determined to leave HK, then forget about HK and look forward to new life here in Canada. Earn HKD spend HKD earn CAD spend CAD. alot of people still doing conversions between HKD / CAD , so why are you still doing conversions? Parents drop zoned me back in 1976 been here since, no complaints have adjusted well , now have steady business, married have home and cars and living with Folks , life is good except no kids yet

Sy family business is not limited by location and therefore he could move to Vancouver. Sy may be reminiscent of his study time in Toronto. For people in Hongkong with strong financial assets, they are less inclined to leave Hong Kong. This is my rich friends decision to stay in Hongkong. Their reasons simple, low tax rate and many income not taxable eg stock trading or currency trading profits, live in amah, lots of good food etc. Even billionaires family members in Hongkong, they are stay put in Hongkong.
