Guys you got it mixed up, the UAD NATIVE ATR 102 latest version which is what your reviewing when you open the panel you have limited options compared to the UAD original DSP version which you are showing on screen on the left lol, they dumbed it down for the native version, no delay etc

@@Phat-Monkey Ya I noticed that too. I have the original and it has way more than the Spark version. In defense of the Spark version, most of the controls that are most important are there, but I’m still using the original as you have more control and I’m more use to it. Good call out though, I was a bit confused lol

Note that the advanced "open" panel picture you showed is the UAD plugin version, not the Native version which has been changed. The tape delay section is removed and you have less things to tweak. Also the overall sound is slightly different of the Native plugin versus the UAD plugin (neither better nor worse, just slightly different frequency response).

Dan is having that friday feeling bigtime today 😂! "The more you drive...". Anyways, the Ampex is perfect at the end of my mixbus, before entering my TC Electronic System 6000 MD 4 processor. So it works as my finishing touch to my mixing and my first step within my mastering chain. The digital realm gave us new possibilities. That's why the Ampex is not my final destination for mastering.

Setting the amount of wow, flutter and crosstalk manually (as well as the delay functionality) is missing from the native version as it is a port of the Luna extension. Not a big deal for me but I thought people might want to know.

Unfortunately the native version is missing a bunch of the features you've reviewed. UA keep doing this with their native releases & this behaviour from them certainly IS SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTT!!!!!!!
@CreativeMindsAudio5 ай бұрын
@@audiosnobs I don’t disagree, but I feel part of it may be that if they included every feature it would use waay too much cou power and people may complain. Or it would require a lot of latency.
@audiosnobs5 ай бұрын
Unfortunately @@CreativeMindsAudio that's pretty much certainly not the case, the missing features are nothing CPU intensive, I feel it's much more likely to be them cynically leaving functionality out to 'encourage' us to buy their expensive hardware. Apple silicon macs can handle an incredible amount of plugin processing without any latency at all, it's been with us for 3 years now & UA have only recently ported this plug over to native so they have absolutely no excuse there.
@CreativeMindsAudio5 ай бұрын
@@audiosnobs maybe. I have tons of their hardware already. I’m running on an old MacBook Pro from 2019. CPU overload errors a lot from newer plugins such as soothe 2 😂. Also too many tracks with some modern amp sims eat up a lot of the cpu. And if I do anything beyond 48khz I’m really F’d. I wouldn’t be able to do nearly as much mixing without the dsp chips. But after my current studio build is done I’ll be saving up for a new Mac with apple silicon. Cause I’m kinda tired of constant cpu errors. Also I actually prefer the added features on the new ampex. Auto gain matching is a life saver! I never used most of the other features anyway, but nice to know I got the dsp versions and all. I own every UA plugin I’d want anyway. And the stuff that isn’t native I have native versions of from other companies. So if I’m out of dsp I have other options. Granted certain reverbs I just can’t find proper replacement, but close enough to switch it out later. But yeah the dsp stuff still has a huge place in the studio imo. Especially if you can’t afford a new 5k laptop. Considering I started down the UA path 10 years ago just getting a card and now I also have an Apollo. Yeah I never run out of dsp now unless I’m more mobile and don’t have my rack gear.

6:10 Digital mixers can have crosstalk if 2 or more inputs or outputs share a converter chip there will be crosstalk its inevitable. It will be lower than say most budget analog console crosstalk but it is true and is common. This is what separates expensive quote "mastering grade converters" such as Lynx or Lavry who use a 1 AD/DA for 1 input or output from brands like Focusrite and Universal Audio. But yes Crosstalk is a problem even in digital consoles. The Presonus studiolive consoles share a chip for every 4 inputs "ADC" and 1 chip for 4 outputs "DAC" and crosstalk happens at about 70db. But its nothing like tape where if you recorded bass on the first or last channel it would bleed over to the adjacent track at -30, but crosstalk on converter chips is a real problem that is becoming less and less of an issue with more available ADDA chips and better specs.

UAD showed me what a shitty company they are with this release. I was waiting for the Native version of this, and they released it at £49.
