The thing that makes this channel strip somehow unique is that bandwidth/Q changes dynamicly with the amount of boost or cut - like you mentioned around 5:00. So I think it is a good choice for some different "flavour". ;-)

Have this one, and picked up the Kiive Quick strip for drums on your recommendation, but have been using the Lindell API strip on drums usually. What would influence your decision to choose one over the other on drums in different contexts -- I know, the one that sounds best, but what would you be particularly listening for? Binge watching your content and have been well informed and entertained -- you've saved me some money, but made me spend some too -- but perhaps more wisely! Cheers!

@@markdineen3430 Glad you're enjoying the channel. 👍 It's different flavours really...I know SSL will get the the fastest and tightest result...API will have more warmth and work on more live sounding drums really well. Neve will really work when the recordings are very close already...wide Q settings and subtle saturation really add to the sound when it doesn't need much sculpting....you learn what works as you do more and more. 👍

@@StudioLife101 The producer I worked with most often would bring in racked API strips for drums and Neve for my bass when tracking into, most usually, an SSL or a Soundcraft, so I just always associated API with drums. True, lots of different sounds all sound good!

I don't know if anyone mentioned it but Qx-Comp by PsychoCircuitry is based on this unit but with extended features...and it's free too. One thing I like that you mention was there's no return on your money with plugins. I've spent countless moneys on plugins just to get overwhelmed over what sounds the best which takes hours to mix a single track. Now with hardware I can make a couple of moves that will get me straight to the point. Hardware to me is a longterm investment specially if I fall on hard times. I'm almost a hands on person, clicking a mouse can be boring after you hit a certain age. I have the Comp 2A and love it on my vocal chain to get some tube color. To be fair, this is more rent to own than a subscription! Once you own all the plugins you no longer need to pay for the Flow service! So if you only use one flow and happen to own all the plugins, you don't ever need to pay. Or once you own all the plugins used in the collection you can cancel and still keep using the Flow plugin. Hope that made sense! In other words, you don't need to continue the subscription to keep using the Flow plugin. Once you own all the plugins or the plugins in the Flows you want to use, you can cancel and continue to use the Flow plugin at no charge.

Did the Helios 760 come in the type 69 desk or was that a compressor Helios made later and Lindell/PA just add it in so the strip had a comp? I would be shocked if this wasn’t the case because I thought these pre 70s desks rarely ever came with in channel compression

Didn’t you know guys were Britney Spears fans 😅. Kidding. That’s where I learned the word ‘prerogative’ by the way. Pretty sure so did Bobby Brown, who had a vocabulary of 12 before he learned of it, and promptly made this song. It’s always a little weird for me, someone who grew up with software, to mix with these YUGE console plugins. But, if they gave us the individual components, it would be so much more useful; you don’t really need everything for every channel. Shame no one has thought of giving us the modules separately. 🎉 Fantastic work.

Absolute clownlike behavior from ST. Why in God's name anyone would choose a subscription "sErViCe" over owning their own plugins outright is completely beyond me.
@matt_nyc_audioengineer2 күн бұрын
It's not a subscription. It's rent to own. Once you own all the plugins you can continue to use Flow at no charge. That includes if you only use one or two Flows and own those plugins. If that's the case then Flow is completely free to use. Also, as a professional engineer subscription models make perfect sense however, at that point, the plugins pay for themselves. I have many subs but I also earn my income using those plugins so it makes sense for someone like me. For the average "hobbyist" tho, I agree. Subs make no sense.
