That simple paper sketch is gold! Shows you everything you need - and would even let people change the design to add more or fewer colours if they wanted to! And scale it up and down as they prefer; I'd definitely want a wider and longer blanket for myself, but that's not exactly difficult to add on to your sketch. I could imagine it would also look great as a striped blanket if you just did each tube in a single colour. Or even the whole blanket in one colour if you prefer a very simple look - but the braids would still be a bit of subtle decoration. I prefer simple styles, so I might just go monochrome. Also, I have a different knitting machine - so I'd have to do a sample to work out how many tubes I'll need for my desired width - and how many rows for the length. But that's easy maths - and even when going monochrome it's helpful to think of it as squares in terms of a sample. Very helpful and informative video, so thanks.
@CopenhagenDreaming
@CopenhagenDreaming 3 жыл бұрын
Also, what were the dimensions of the blanket in the video? Just so I have a general idea of how much I'll need to scale it up... (I'll probably want to at least double the area of the blanket, so if you used 9 skeins in total I should get 18-20 skeins, I guess.)

Honestly, you can do it either way! I like to close the tubes after crocheting them together. That way, I can work the ends from the join into the crochet. Both ways work, it's just a matter of how you want to do it.

Well I've started this blanket. However, I settled for making it on my Ultimate Sweater machine so that the panels would be wider, for I am making it for a Queen bed. Width - 78"" wide. Length - 82" Needles: 48, which yields a panel 13" wide (6 panels-78"). Rows: 450. Using the knit-as-you-go method for joining the panels. Requiring--not quite 12 skeins of Red Heart 198 oz., which covers the crochet border (2" wide). Planning on making a standard blanket using my Addi King. Will do the braided connection. Will gift the blanket along with a checkerboard set. Really love this pattern.

@@HJKelley47 I've had the Singer LK 100 and the Incredible Sweater Machine for more than 20 years but never master how to knit a sweater. In fact, I've never master anything beyond using them to seam sweaters, before I discovered top down knitting. Now I've a condition with my thumb that's preventing me from hand knitting. Maybe in the New Year, it's time to dust them off and give them another try. I'd be very happy for any advice/channels you could point me to.

@@bejai1962 : Absolutely dust them off and get ready to learn the wonderful hobby of machine knitting. For the Sweater Machine I would recommend: 1, Cynthia Ogden. It has been awhile since she posted a video, but the ones she has on KZbin will help you to learn about your Sweater Machine. When she makes a mistake, she did not edit it out, but showed how to fix that mistake so that we would all learn. Cynthia has over 300 videos on KZbin using the Sweater machine, and also has videos on making her own tools for machine knitting. I learned to master that knitter through Cynthia's vids. 2. Diana Sullivan - A Master Machine Knitter. She also has a few excellent videos on knitting with the Ultimate Sweater Machine. 3. Troubleshooting carriage jams: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4Cle5mEi69lgaM 4. FYI: Kriskrafter.com now sells cast-on combs for the Sweater machine so that you don't have to deal with the plastic hem & rods and/or your own made cast-on rag. Until you are able to purchase the new combs, Diana shows you how to make your own cast-on rag. 5. There is a learning curve in machine knitting, but once you master the Sweater Machine, there will be so many things you can make. 6. The gauge on the sweater machine is 8 mm. (considered a bulky machine) Use Light & Med. worsted weights yarn; some Bulky yarns; DK weight; Vanna's Choice, Red Heart, Hobby Lobby; Lions Brand; Big Twist & Caron. Recommendations for the LK100: 1. For set up: kzbin.info/www/bejne/apSmeX1slpmhe6M 2. Making stripes with the 100: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqSxdIaEnp6hgc0 3. Cast on - Bind off: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZDWd3mXa9SnhKc 4. Making a Picot Hem with the LK100 (also called the Zippy 90): kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2OriZR_mtJ9iJo 5. Can use the same yarns as noted above. 6. Gauge on the LK100 is 9 mm. (considered a bulky machine) 7. Have you checked your sponge strip on your machine? If it has been sitting a long time it probably needs to be changed. You can buy a new sponge strip for the LK100 on Ebay: www.ebay.com/itm/121412792207hash=item1c44c42f8f:g:368AAOSwFtNcUNFS Hope this information is of help to you.
