I'm surprised no one mentioned his song Move It On Over. Talking about gin, for years gin was a cheap alcohol associated with lower classes in England. Not sure when gin & tonics and martinis because " sophisticated"

Three of my music heroes have baseball connections. George Thorogood was once a second baseman for the semi-pro Delaware Destroyers. Once read that he built a baseball field on his property. Joan Jett is another musician who is a baseball fan. I once heard Joan do a guest spot on a radio broadcast for the Baltimore Orioles. Finally, Duke Ellington was a terrific baseball player (as well as a painter).

I agree, I don't like gin either. For this song, I'm wondering how he has the money to pay for all this bourbon, scotch and beer but he didn't have enough to pay for the rent. Great song though.

@@TheOriginalFILIBUSTA Same here! I first encountered JLH in "The Blues Brothers" during the Maxwell Street scene. And all I knew was that I was probably looking at the coolest human being on the planet. As you probably know, they show his name and face in the credits, and 12-year-old me went, "holy crap! He even has a cool NAME!!" I used to have a great tape of 16 of his biggest hits, but I've never found that exact mix of songs ever again. I'll shut up now.

When I was younger, a shot & a beer was called a Boiler Maker. My Dad drank beer, my mom drank High Balls. I went through different alcohol phases when I was younger. Before I was legal, it was Boone's Farm Apple wine. We used to give our friend's brother $1 each for a bottle. BARF! Then Colt 45 (beer). Then I became legal. Southern Comfort, Tequila phases. Then it was strictly beer. Tried different things along the way. A different shot with friends here & there. UGH! Now I'm old & a glass once in a while. Haven't heard this is a while. Great song!

Well, ole' GEORGE was a little bit rude to me during autograph time after the concert, but I forgive him! He was leaning on a post all day cause he was TIRED, LOL! Seriously, he was probably tired and I'm glad he signed and I hope all is well with him. He had his son on tour with him this last time I saw him. That was pretty special and the show, as always, was just the BEST!

Gin has a pine smell, and flavor because it is distilled from Juniper berries, which come from coniferous bushes also relative to pine, cedar, and arborvitae trees. I think gin is best mixed with tonic and lime or lemon. Also mixed in a martini with sweet vermouth(similar to dry white wine). I have never tried it with juice, because it is not my liquor of choice. Southern Comfort with o.j. or Mountain Dew is my go to drink(tastes like candy, kicks like a mule). Otherwise it's beer. How do I know this? Because I used to be a "Ginslinger"(bartender).

As any Chicagoan can attest, we are proud of the nastiest tasting liquor ever. Our very own Chicago made Malort. It's affectionately referred to as "The taste bud assasin". Based on the Swedish liquor brannvin, for years it carried the label "Are you man enough?" Every bar in town has a bottle of it gathering dust in case someone finds out their friend has never tried it. Of course that brings out cries of "give him a shot Malort!" People will gather round just to watch his reaction as he eyes the attractive bottle and notices the stem (of wormwood) inside. He's thinks "that's a bit odd but how bad can it be?" Then, about two seconds after he downs the shot, comes the delayed reaction payoff everyone has waited for. MALORT FACE! Check out the reactions on You Tube and then give it a try. You'll never forget your first time and odds are there will never be a second.
