I am welsh woman and My Husband is a Gambian man, and we have 2 beautiful sons. And a beautiful princess.. My Partner has explained to me what the song lyrics mean, Such a beautiful ,peaceful, song about The Gambia and the Gambian people and how proud they are of their country. Sona Jobarteh is an extremely talented Artist. My partner plays this song very often to our sons,and our baby girl and makes him feel happy as takes him back to is homeland. Love This song, sending love across the world, please always be kind to each other!! Much Love From North Wales, united kingdom!

I am from Ukraine and this music made me cry. It touches something deep in my heart. I think we missed Africa and we miss it. I play it and dance in the kitchen. I would like the whole world go out in the streets and dance African dances. As not only live in our brains, but also in our bodies and our hearts.

Julia africa is the beginning of the world population and will be the end for a new start. Africa will be back in his historical place in the world the mother of humanity and leading the the humanity to safe and wise place. The world is being destroyed because AFRICA is suffering everybody is exploiting africa and africans are mistreated everywhere even in UKRAINE all those people if they dont repent will face terrible end. I also had no Knowledge of Sona Jobarteh or the Kora until I to saw her story on '60 minutes'. And Am I so grateful that I caught that show. Everyday I play Sona Jobarteh . You Mrs Sona Jobarteh have just replaced Sade. You are on top by yourself. Thats right you are the number (1) one among everyone that hear or heard your voice. And I will do all that I can to see that as many people as possible hear your music. After seeing you on '60 minutes', a week later our radio station (KPFK.90.7) Los Angeles were blowing your music up. And that is a good thing Mrs Sona Jobarteh, we LOVE YOU HERE, YOU GOT MY VOTE. YOUR MUSIC MAKES ME WANT TO COME HOME, TO AFRICA, CUSH, ( AN AREA MENTIONED IN THE BIBLE, SOMETIME IDENTIFIED WITH UPPER EGYPT. ) Before referred to as the( LAND OF THE BLACK'S,) AND TO MANY OF US HERE IN AMERICA THAT IS A GREAT THING, BECAUSE IT IDENTIFY'S US WITH OUR CULTURE LIKE ART AND THE SOUNDS IN THE MUSIC YOU SING. I AM LIKE MANY OF US THAT DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE WORDS, HOWEVER THE MUSIC REACHES OUR SPIRIT, AND THE SPIRIT UNDERSTANDS WHAT THE MIND CAN NOT UNDERSTAND AT THE TIME. I JUST MISS YOUR CONCERT AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL, AND I AM ASKING YOU TO PLEASE COME AGAIN, AND I WILL BE WILLING TO GUARANTEE YOU THAT YOUR CONCERT'S WILL BE SOLD OUT EVERY ONE OF THEM. BECAUSE YOU NOT ONLY HAVE THE MUSIC THAT OUR BLACK PEOPLE HERE IN AMERICA NEED TO HERE, ALL BLACK PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD NEED TO HEAR YOU SING. ALL THE PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD NEED TO HEAR YOU. BUT DO NOT LET ANYONE AND I MEAN ANYONE EXPLOIT, OR USES YOU IN ANYWAY, PLEASE, YOU ARE TO GREAT OF A PERSON FOR THAT AND I CAN TELL THAT YOU LIKE MANY OF US ARE AND TRYING TO DO GREAT THINGS FOR OUR PEOPLE AT HOME. PLEASE DO NOT LET ANYONE TAKE THAT AWAY FROM YOU OR FROM US. I WILL INCLUDE YOU, YOUR FAMILY AND FAMILIES IN MY PRAYERS TO THE MOST HIGH CREATOR, HE WILL KEEP YOU WITH PROTECTION AT ALL TIMES. YOU SEE YOU BRING A MESSAGE OF LOVE FROM THE MOST HIGH CREATOR AND FOR MANY OF US WHO CAN NOT UNDERSTAND THE LANGUAGE OUR SPIRIT UNDERSTANDS THE SPIRITUAL MESSAGE, AS IT IS SPOKEN DIRECTLY FROM THE MOST HIGH CREATOR. IT IS A MESSAGE OF LOVE, PEACE AND TRANQUILITY. PRAYER AND MEDITATION IS THE ORDER OF EVERYDAY FROM HEREAFTER.

I’m from Sarajevo in Bosnia, I think Sona is The Queen of Africa. She is in my eyes and ears. I don’t know what is more beautiful about her, her masterful playing or that almost childish voice or her appearance..I’m not even sure Sona Jobarte even exists or if she is some kind of a fairy or a melek (angel). Here’s my ❤ to you Sona Malika 🇬🇲

Simply beautiful. Here is an English translation I found: The Gambia Built in peace and stability, hosted by development and progress, Humanity and happiness is on all faces, our outstanding country Gambia. Wherever you are , never forget your homeland Gambia For if you forget your roots, you turn your back on who you are. (Refrain): We are proud… We are proud of our country (Refrain): We are proud… Let us come together and unite (Refrain): We are proud… This is what will result in progress People of the Gambia; this is the beautiful land People of the Gambia; this is the peaceful land People of the Gambia; this is the land of our people People of the Gambia; there is nothing that compares to this land People honour this country because it is blessed We should not abandon our beautiful country Sons/daughters of this land, let us come to together I will truly always be proud to be a Gambian Wherever I travel, I shall tell of the wonders of this country There is nowhere that compares to Gambia Outro: The home of Peace… everyone say “Gambia” The home of Blessings… everyone say “Gambia” The home of Humility… everyone say “Gambia” The home of Family… everyone say “Gambia”

I am from Pakistan; when I was little, my parents moved us to Africa, and I was raised there. We had some wonderful times and made beautiful memories. My siblings and I learned the language, and remember it to this day. Now, we've left Africa, but to me, Africa is my childhood, Africans are my people, and African music often takes me back to that lovely place in my mind; a place of perfection. That's why I was drawn to this stellar song; it took me there again. Thank You for uploading it.

You're right. There are many Arabic words in Mandinka similar to Swahili I guess. I'm just fascinated how intertwined African languages really are. Africa must unite for it's people to take their rightful place on earth.
@JoStylin
@JoStylin 4 жыл бұрын
Mutie Mule ...It's not Arabic. I think you mean 'Afro-Asiatic'. The Afro-Asiatic language is extremely old and has existed long before Arabs entered Africa. Arabs only arrived in West Africa in 700 BC. However, Mandinka have had their language for over 10,000 years. These Mandinka people are responsible for some of the greatest empires in Africa. Songhai, Mali, and Ghana Empire was created by their ancestors. I’m even thinking it was their ancestors that ruled Pre-historic Egypt at one point before they migrated to West Africa due to Invasions/also due to the spread of the Sahara. The Mandinka, Soninke and Songhai people and their history are beyond fascinating. Let’s not even talk about their music - they are the founders of the Saharan 'Desert Blues' music style. Ali Farka Toure is one of them. These people are full of so much culture and history. They are also very closely related to the Dogon. The only difference is that the Dogon are not Muslim and have maintained the pre-Islamic traditions. You should read about them.
