Traded in my 2014 Honda CBR650F and picked up the R1S yesterday and oh what a difference! 140 miles in 2 days and I don't know where to begin. First impressions - smooth, grounded, and reacts beautifully to my inputs. Saved quite a bit more than the $1500 difference in comparison to the R1 so at this early stage I'm more than satisfied and in my opinion this is the best color scheme.

+EpicWin2005 I think this is a first bike if you've taken an MSF class and had no problem passing the course test and have had some motorcycle experience. This bike has lots of low end torque so you have to careful early on, nonetheless, it's manageable and fun once you get comfortable. Little experience and no MSF this is definitely not a first bike and it will bite you if you're really new.

I just bought one of these a month a ago and it keeps up with my buddies normal R1 and I do not go to the track often so it was worth the 1500 for me. If I'm not racing and redlining every gear then it is identical. So hate all you want guys if you don't go to the track every week then you don't need to buy the M or normal R1 or a quick shifter.

justin johnson I have this an R1S as well. And yeah I might be able to deal with just a couple of parts replaces but 2k less rpm rev and limited at 170 compared to 186 on all other liter bikes, I would definitely would go for the standard R1 hands down. Plus resale value is going to be a big thing as well, and there goes the 1500 in savings. Only reason I got my R1S is because I got it for 9k with only 600 miles, now that's a deal I can live with

@goonigoogoo58688 жыл бұрын
there is also the difference in rev max. this bike is not as insane as the regular R1. so a savings of 1,500 may not be a savings when it comes time to re-sell the bike, as it is not as desirable it may not hold as much a resale value. Also you may get some shit from the other super bike riders at the rock store. ( if you know what and where that is even)
@TD402dd8 жыл бұрын
You're right about some things being different, but the piston rods are not magnesium, which lowers the power 1500 rpm lower, which allows the bike to be less track oriented. The pipe is also different along with the wheels. For me this makes no difference what so ever. A rare few riders will ever ring the performance out of this bike.

The rods are actually titanium in my 2016 R1. You accidentally said magnesium. R1S has steel rods. Titanium is not as strong as steel, but it is non-corrosive, last longer and can handle higher temperatures. I thought it was pretty important when I bought the bike, I ride pretty hard. I won't try it, but blindfolded I am sure you would not notice a difference. lol Long story short, I bought the 5 year bumper to bumper plan anyway.

Only difference is 9 lbs? What about 2,000 RPM less top end, no QSS, and the motor has weaker components. I disagree that you need to be on the track for 2,000 RPM more. You wouldn't buy a R1 to keep it at the speed limit. The R1S missed the mark on everything that's not feasibly replaceable by the common rider. Would be hard to upgrade to titanium rods down the road and it certainly would be over 1,500 dollars to do so. IMO maybe if it was $4K less than the R1 would it become a good value bike.

@bowenleigh33277 жыл бұрын
For street riders there's not much point to having parts that matter only on track. The $2,000 Rims on the bike save 1.5 lbs of rotating mass. Not worth it for a street rider. The old R1s never had them. Motor has weaker components? You mean the same materials the R1 has had since 1998 to the last model...steel and aluminum. It makes sense to me. And this bike is still lighter and quicker than the 2014 R1.
@znismo17 жыл бұрын
Mark Atkinson completely agree with you
@FallRider-oc3vl7 жыл бұрын
Mark Atkinson I agree completely. I could live with the heavier wheels (those while expensive, aren't difficult to replace with someone ones used take offs that switched their base or M to carbon) but the rods? I know the previous R1's made do with the cheaper components but your paying for the new R1. If I wanted to pay 14k and didn't care about having the full package, I'd save a ton and get a leftover 2014 or go used on an older model. The exhaust would have been a better place to go cheap. Yamaha knows most riders will swap it

hours at the dealership yesterday for 2016 right the bikes that came out I didn't know what to 2016 ZX10 has 200 horsepower to the rear wheels stock and the new 30 year anniversary Suzuki GSXR 1000 only has 179 horsepower to the rear wheels and I love Suzuki but I think I'd go with Kawasaki now and I thought I'd never say that!.... And then I was thinking about Yamaha because your mom approves basically almost everybody on a financing if you're going to finance..

+BIKES BLADES/GUN'S From what I hear the GSXR 1000 L7 will have 200 hp.
@stevemack389sm8 жыл бұрын
xtravagentK I was just at the dealership I was going over everything all the spec's,but if the 2017 GSXR 1000 has 200hp to the rear wheel stock, and by the way then I'm sure that the competition will answer with more horsepower,m and torque, because if 2016 is Suzuki 30th anniversary of the GSXR 1000 any way! why wouldn't that have had at least either more horsepower to the rear wheel? and then especially Kawasaki since they just took back their ownership, because Kawasaki and Suzuki had emerged in 2007 I believe, and since they had taken back ownership of Suzuki, they should have answered what are higher numbers especially since Kawasaki took all of their basic knowledge from 2004 and freakin up to 07 .. how do you think all of a sudden from when's Suzuki and Kawasaki had emerged in 2006 that it started with their frames Kawasaki had the dirt bike frames on a Suzuki bikes believe me I had a 2006 RMZ 250 R and it had a Kawasaki frame everything else was Suzuki. Basically we're obviously what I'm getting at is that Kawasaki took from Suzuki everything that they needed because the reason whatever it was they didn't have the power or their mechanics didn't know what to do he was doing because everybody hates with Suzuki's bikes look like but their performance on their Motors or superb!... Yes that was a big one on sentence!. Sorry. Because I mean look at the GSXR 750 2005 they're holding their value at like 5 to $7,000 right now because of their Motors the K-5 through k-8 motor from GSXR 750 - 1000 those motors from 2004 ,2005 -2007 those are the motor model year is the last golden years. Suzuki GSXR Motors basically,like they had the best quality of everything and they need more horsepower and torque!!! And actually to tell you the truth back then they really didn't it was just that they had the chassis down correct and with the gearing they haven't interior of the bike done perfect for those years and the ..... who cares like everybody was always talking about how the rest of the bike like the fairings and everything like that the whole outside basically was old, old looking never updated, that was because it already has that sounded all sweetness to cut through basically it has an aerodynamic so the only thing that they were worried about and he always came on top with what is getting the bikes to the top!. than the rest of the bikes in the time so they were thinking about what they have I thought that they brought back either the K-5 with a K-8 motor in 2015, if I'm not mistaken AK-47s KZbin channel review on the 2015 told us about the K-5 or K-8 motor I believe on the GSXR 2015 like I was saying and it was the 1000 GSXR 1000 personally almost to always Suzuki guy!!!! all the way I love Suzuki!!!!!! I mean when I sat on the Kawasaki 2016 ZX10 it was more comfortable!!! Everything was closer and the Peg's where perfect i can't believe I'm even saying this i hate Kawasaki LOL!!!!I always fit on Suzuki and I'm always more comfortable on all the Suzuki's!!!! because I think this is ok the whole line of Suzuki's were meant for the medium size customer not the larger I feel like Honda was for a lot of harassing Yamaha was for a medium or it for a medium person really or long!... But Suzuki was always a small and Nimble bike and even with the power that Suzuki is will put it out for street bikes dirt bikes everything in 2004 2005 2006 they were for me being smaller to medium guy but they still put out the bigger power and torque or maybe it was because they just always had everything dialed incorrectly?!... I'm only 5 foot 10 so my legs are a little bit shorter which Suzuki always had higher pegs and they had the bars were always perfect I would say for myself!... LOL I'm going to stop here... Because I can keep going on and on between even BMW and Yamaha but Yamaha just completely despise their only Power is at the high end and that's it about Yamaha but BMW is just perfect the BMW 1000RR I think in my opinion it is the best bike liter bike then all of the other liter bikes!... But I will say Street Fighter was KTM 1290 Super Duke I think that has Leo Street Fighter super naked whatever you want to call it LOL I think that's done best bike out there for that style bike KTM did very good and personally for indoor wall so it's either Husqvarna or KTM because it is seen company but I want the 2 stroke back so bad that if I do go back into dirt bike racing or anything I will be getting either a KTM or Husqvarna two-stroke 300.....

I am fairly certain that the other 0.01% isn't reading comments on youtube R1 reviews, they are probably out killing a track or some canyons somewhere.

None of this shit matters for street riders. I watch guys smoke R1's all day at the track on 600's until the straight aways. It comes down to more than the few upgraded parts here boys. Rider skill is above and beyond any of these small details Unless you're doing track days, and burning multiple tires a day 98 percent of riders will never in a million years know the difference.

Exactly my logic, that $1,500 I saved by getting the R1S got me a Hindle 3/4 exhaust system, Austin Racing belly plate, ECU unrestricted flash, Zero Gravity double bubble windscreen, a pair of Pilot Power's for my eventual tire change, tank pads, rear stand, camera mount and I still have a few hundred dollars to spare. Not only is my bike now several pounds lighter than a stock R1, it also has roughly 19 more horsepower and 5 more lbs of torque, not to mention it handles much better because of the ECU flash and sounds incredible because of the new exhaust.

I never understood why they made this. It's not more comfortable, or tuned differently, it's literally just an R1 with cheaper components...
@bowenleigh33277 жыл бұрын
The R1S is still better than the previous generation R1. The bike is actually geared a little shorter in conjunction with a lower redline. For the guys that buy a 1000cc bike for the street and change the sprockets so that the bike accelerates a little faster without the unnecessary top end: this bike is for them as it basically comes like that stock. If you're just going to be riding on the street paying $2,000 more for parts you'll never need doesn't make sense. That being said the marketing for this bike sucks. Nobody wants a cheap version of anything. This bike should have been the base model and then two higher models above it like everyone else does.

+Yamaha Rider J I get so sick of Australian's whining about prices, in general you guys make more money than US residents, your national minimum wage is $10.04 MORE an hour at $17.29 vs. $7.25. I see Australian's complaining the same about video game prices being $99.99 vs. the $59.99 price in the US but the reality is from a base wage perspective you have to do much less work to purchase things that are more expensive. For example, let's take two minimum wage workers from each country. For you to afford a $16,000 R6 in Australia you would have to work 925 hours making $17.29 to purchase it. For a US resident to afford a $10,990 R6 they would have to work 1,515 hours making $7.25 to purchase it. You and your countrymates complaining about prices is not only ridiculous, it's shrouded in complete misunderstanding and ignorance of our economical differences.

maybe you need to learn how the world works the US coin is worth more then an Australian coin if we pay for a game in the US by the time it is in Australia it will have cost $100 we do not get paid more we can paid around the same BUT THE US COIN IS WORTH MORE there for you do not need AS MUCH everything is cheaper in the US

Adds alot more weight than 9 pounds. Think of the thousands of dollars you are saving. Lol. My local dealer has one of these left and they're trying to clear it out for 13,000 Canadian. Honestly 10 grand cheaper than the R1M.

''Only 9 lbs, that's nothing'' On a bike 9 lbs is quite a bit.

On a street bike 9lbs is nothing.
@Audfile8 жыл бұрын
it's nothing, for the money saved. 9lbs means jack shit for street riding, it would only be apparent to a top echelon rider on a track at full performance and even then lap times would be off only by 100ths of a second.
@famousmidnight8 жыл бұрын
Audfile Top echelon riders are the only ones that can feel 10lbs on the track, ha. Why do riders/teams even attempt weight savings if it means nothing, per you Audfile?? I know several people racing sport bikes that would completely disagree. Personally, with 20 years motocross experience on motocross tracks anything close to 10lbs will be felt. Is the difference drastic, depends on where the weight savings are. Is 10 lbs gonna make or break you on your weekend ride to the hills, obviously not.
