I love that Meg and the lads mention the online worries over the 'argument' during the live Christmas episode. So foolish that they had to, but good on them; Glenn's first comments about it were 100% spot on. Bird law actually has an interesting significance. Protecting various threatened species was outside of the power of congress and most state's legislatures. However, the president was empowered to enter into treaties, so long as ratified by the senate, and that would become attached to the constitution as the law of the land regardless. The Endangered Species Act was the first main time treaty law was used to apply laws within the US that would otherwise be unconstitutional or simply not politically possible. Another example, as has been testified before congress, the US fed gov cannot legalize cannabis because of a treaty. It can only be decriminalized and ignored. But congress and the US gov has no legal ability to legalize cannabis anymore because of a treaty. Birdlaw precedent actually has incredible significance.
@wittkrieg
@wittkrieg Жыл бұрын
I will also say, I support the Bricker amendment which would make it unconstitutional to make unconstitutional acts legal even if done via treaty. However, at this moment, the president and a majority of the senate can, under the constitution, absolutely violate the constitution in every other way. And they have and continue to use this method with zero public awareness. And this all happened because of birdlaw. If only more people understood birdlaw the world might be better.

I didn’t see the “argument” until they started talking about it and I looked it up and WOW. That was the most normal and modest disagreement I’ve ever seen and I can’t believe people were like offended or whatever. That was a very healthy disagreement.
@damionbrundle1162
@damionbrundle1162 2 жыл бұрын
People these days are just so into "My view is right, if you disagree you're wrong" that they see what went on in that episode and immediately think it's a big deal fight. I tried telling people it was nothing but a discussion between friends whom disagree about something, and got berated on how stupid I was to not be able to see it, and blah blah. I'm glad some people still understand it's OK to disagree about stuff with someone, without it making them your opponent you must destroy.

This episode was great. My students were intimidated to try to answer a question so I told them with encouragement and a smile to "hurry up and get it wrong" so we can come to the right answer together. They laughed (I gave Rob the credit) and they felt more comfortable with shouting out a wrong answer, which they absolutely did. I will definitely be using that phrase from now on. Thanks Rob!

@@Littledidtheyknow I'd say it's worth a listen because there's some good stuff about the writing process for S16, the people they've worked with, some surprising fans and the December live show, so it's not completely disconnected from Sunny. Personally, I wanna cut them some slack because they've clearly just come from working very hard on S16 and there's not much time left for them to finish up all the writing (and if it's a tradeoff between S16 of the show and 4-6 episodes of the podcast, I pick the show). They must be very stressed out when they recorded this. But yes, it's still rather disappointing when this episode is such a classic to all of us fans :( I would have appreciated if Rob could at least explain more fully why he doesn't think this episode holds up instead of just being a downer. I don't think it's an LA thing, just his very "direct" personality, to put it politely. I guess at least Glenn loved the episode.

@@ARABxINFLUENCE I vaguely remember something from Reddit about how someone, probably desert grape, made it as a joke and put it on twitter or something? And someone else found it and posted it on Reddit without context so thousands of people saw it and thought Rob and Charlie were fighting. So it might still be up on r/iasip, not sure though.

One of my favorite quotes from Flea that I’ll have to paraphrase because I can’t remember verbatim was “it’s our job to take our inspiration and do the footwork of making it into a song.” I really enjoy hearing about the writing process from different creative avenues because of how they have to task and organize themselves. The show is about narcissists doing silly things, the work towards that end product is such an amazing process to me.
