People do not understand the nuance of prejudice - racism is specific. They use the word racist because it elicits an emotional response and it is easy to control emotional people. There is also the fact, which you pointed out, that everyone has some kind of prejudice. A free citizen is entitled to their opinions; destroying an individual's livelihood over their prejudices doesn't help them grow, it reinforces it. I use Daryl Davis and Coleman Hughes as inspiration for how I think about racism, prejudice, discrimination and mercy.

Of course it is. You can get fired in the USA for simply having a different political viewpoint. ie. being a Republican. Someone joked about there being "secret Republicans". But they are hiding because you can (and will) lose your job if you are found out. This tends to make a company / workplace all one political type. For example in 2021 there was a 60-day stand down of the US military to purge "extremism" from the ranks, this was implemented by Lloyd Austin a Biden nominated general. Do you want to take a guess what sort of people were targeted for "extremism"? I live on a really steep road and my favorite winter pastime is staring out my 5x8 window, sipping my coffee, and watching people "unstuck" themselves. Then I'm like, "Hey kids, check out this buried", we call them burieds and pride ourselves as world class buried watchers as the kids try and figure out what kind they are as they color them into a drawing book. In an emergency situation you take all the volunteers you can get, even ones with silly phobias. That means the first person through might skip your house, but they're suppose to tell someone where and why so they can send a different person that isn't afraid of dogs. The alternative would be not letting that person help at all and none of those houses being visited.

As a person that lives in an place that has been hit by 3 major hurricanes in the last 20 years, I can tell you FEMA sucks, after one of those hurricanes we sought FEMA help covering roof repairs (water came pouring through our living room roof at 3 am while there were 100+ mph hurricane winds blowing outside), we applied for FEMA assistance, about a month later a FEMA inspector showed up at our house with no advance notice to inspect the damage, called me on my cell phone and told me they were there to inspect the damage, and only gave me 15 minutes to get there and let them into the house. At the time I was 100 miles away having driven my wife to medical appointment, and I was told there was no way to reschedule the FEMA visit, and basically I was out of luck because I could not get there on 15 minutes notice.

They showed up on day 2 or 3 and immediately had chainsaw crews out helping people clean up. By comparison the Red Cross showed up for about 4 days around day 3-4 and handed out blankets and tooth brushes.
