I love the little symbolism at the end where Ed and Al are on different sides of the gate, then the birds fly, going through and beyond the gate, leaving Al's metal body behind and finaly being free.

I feel like this ending's meaning is about embracing both life and death. How we see it at the beginning see several characters that've passed away (Trisha, Nina, Scar and Hughes), I find very interesting on how Edward is fighting the homunculi on a graveyard since the homunculi themselves are technically living dead. Then we see Ed and Al in a church, but they seem to be really calmed, I even dare to say happy, on how we see Ed's nostalgic smile as if he's coming to terms that death is inevitable, yet that's what makes life really wonderful; probably realizing all the people that are gone yet their impact on him and Al's journey is now inspiration for them to move forward. "Although I cannot meet you right now I conceal those painful feelings I wanna make it more clear that I can become stronger It's okay if I don't stop my overflowing tears At the end of this sadness, the light will surely shine me" I will - Sowelu

Literally man the way 03 connected us to these deaths man is so impactful, then we get reminded how meaningful these deaths are in this slick ass music video showin how the bois and especially Ed here are fighting to make their deaths to have not been in vein, I just love this song so much too man I love how the 03 writers used it to PERFECTION

if there is one thing i love about fullmetal alchemist 2003 and brotherhood is that they distinguish al's emotions through edward in a way. like for instance, near the end we see edward looking at the light through the top window in the church, and his frown grows to not a smile, but its like hes saw something that seemed familiar. i say that because the way his pupil shrinks and the highlight in his eye is expanded, he seems somewhat happy, but sad at the same time. i feel like al would have the same reaction.

I never hear anyone bring this up, but that's definitely a demo version of the song on this ED. The full version has much fuller instrumentation on the backgrounds is missing little quirks of this version like the "oh, woh, woh" leading into the chorus and the "For You" sang at the end. There are also small vocal performance differences in this version. Overall, a neat fact about this ending. Would be interested to hear this whole demo recording if a longer cut exists.

It’s good to see someone mentioning this,I noticed some of the differences as well,like around 0:50 That’s why I’ve been trying to find an instrumental version of this version of the ED but I guess that’s impossible. Pd: apparently the single version of the theme was released months after this version so it’s most likely a demo like you mentioned.

The 2 worlds behind the door was ok. I don't like the fact that the plot tells us that there is no such thing as alchemy in the world behind the door. From my perspective it's weird, since that world is a portrait of our world, and in our world there was alchemy, but it's me and my nitpicking. The way it explains alchemy was bad, i agree with you on that.
