THRIFTING HOME DECOR in the VINTAGE Mall! | RESELLING ANTIQUES
We're shopping Marietta, Ohio at a huge antique mall in an old factory block we've never seen before-recommended by our fellow collectors at the Fenton glass show! Can we find a magic spot where curated vintage goods intersect with flea market prices for resellers?
The chances are good in this vast and venerable old building, where a maze leads through catacombs stuffed with antiques to appreciate, and values on vintage! Art and crackle glass from neighboring West Virginia is an obvious choice...but what about spy cameras, 1930s games and hand-painted silhouettes?
We find a honey hole in the back of this cavernous antique assemblage, where all those things and more are selectively mined and taken to the front register. A turquoise 1950s valise, a cute-as-can-be 1960s fire hydrant dog biscuit jar...this place has a bunch of really fun and varied things we can buy to flip for a profit!
Along the way, we get to enjoy a whole lot of beautiful, strange, fun and seasoned vintage goods, from 1890s cash registers and Civil War compendiums to a crazy old elephant-driven car and a surprising variety of traveling vanity sets. We heard this was a great place to shop for collectors and resellers, and the rumors are all true!
Here's what else we see on the way through this fun antique colossus:
Ox yoke, Fenton lamp, McCoy turtle planter, Sympathetic Ear shakers, Akro-Agate childrens dishes, Blenko pitcher and compote, ship's wheel, Knickerbocker Beer 1960s ad sign, Mobilgas sign, spelter woman lamp base, 1950s Coke cooler, faux tortoise 1930s travel set, stag handled 1910s dresser set, swirled blue enamelware pan, Kanawha glass, Pilgrim crackle ewer, American Bisque seal planter, Metlox Green Rooster Provincial, cast iron floor heater grates, master and slave school clocks, bronze memorial plaque, Matchbox cars, Gulf No-Nox 1950s sign, Lefton Heritage Green (rose) dinnerware, Blue Mountain Pottery whale, Ring depression glass pitcher, 1950s regional beer trays, Fenton ruby crested heart dish, Fenton Rosalene, West Virginia crackle glass set, Fenton "uranium" glass, Foto magazine, 1872 Welsh almanac, R.D. Runyon 1970s sihouette prints, Pink Pigs, postcards, hankies, 1960s TV tray set, grinding tools, 1930s comedic motto thermometer, Winston 1980s backlit sign, Ransburg Pottery floral ball pitcher, Cambridge Glass dresser box, Thomas searchlight truck, 1955 Pontiac promo model, Bubble wig 1961 Barbie doll, 1939 NY World's Fair shakers, miniature airplane engine, general store biscuit box display, Kentucky Derby beer ad placard, David Winter cottages, all wood croquet set, etc.

How funny. I was just in that antique mall in Marietta about a month ago. I, too, picked up the sympathetic ear shakers. I thought about purchasing the fairy lamp at 12:00 but passed because I convinced myself it was so cheap because it was a marriage. Maybe I was wrong and should have snatched it up?

Hello from Missouri George🌻 What a great stop. I love the Travel Sets. Never seen the mans set. It looked pretty fancy. All in great shape..I have several. It looks good with my old compacts. I display in sewing machine drawers ,old purses with vintage linens(doilies n hankies) I don't care if they are perfect. I have a room set up for them. I do not know glassware and pottery. That was my Dad's expertise and he has been gone 19yrs. I would be amazed how he could just look and touch a piece and tell a reproduction. And names of patterns. I didn't want to learn because that was his love. I am learning from you. He would be so proud. He especially loved Ruby Red. Cookie Jars. McCoy anything and he had tons of green glass. He would be amazed with the black light and glowy glass phenomenon. ❤

5:13 Seems like I've seen someone on KZbin say that pieces that are ribbed on the bottom like that planter were made by Royal Copley. I have a small Royal Copley planter that has the ribs. That Blenko looked like a Sorry game piece, which would be just about right for the 1960s. I have some art stashed away from a Colonel from San Antonio, TX that was a photographer and did a lot of modernist photos. There are a lot of unknown artists waiting to be discovered. Is that elephant driving a car loofa? That fox call is from Marble Falls, TX, 2.5 hours from me!
@TheAntiqueNomad

There's two patterns of ribbing that are different but similar on pottery, one is Royal Copley and one (with oblong ribs) is American Bisque, both 1940s-50s vintage

Good evening, George! I like that spelter lady lamp figure as just a statue. Love those cast iron floor grates. I'd like to have a water set in the Hocking "Rings", but there's just nowhere here to put another set. There are a few of the old handkerchiefs I like, but I'm really picky about them. That little spy camera is neat. I would love to have that old croquet set! I've always wanted one of those sets. That place looked like it would take a whole day to browse completely. Thanks for the take-along!

I would certainly mount spelter figures of any kind as statuary if it seemed fitting, I am particularly fond of them! Some of the Ring pitchers are really interestingly shaped. I only really like a few old hankies, but the girl was one of them. I sure would like a wood croquet set, I've never owned one that old!

@@TheAntiqueNomad Yes! The old spelter figures are a favourite of mine, as well. There were some really nicely detailed ones. I tend to go more for the floral hankies in blues and violets, with not too much white on them. That croquet set would've been my pick from everything I saw there. Loved that thing!

Thank you! I try when I do mention a price to state if it’s reasonable for a collector to pay, or fully (high) priced…but if it’s wholesale you’ll see me buy it! I don’t always focus on price though, sometimes it’s more about the appreciation of the piece

Amazing place with some reasonably priced items. My mom collected David Winters pieces & i still have one of hers. Recently i found 3 at a goodwill in a baggie for $7. I looked them up on ebay figuring they were pricey, but was disappointed they weren't. I put them into my booth, but they haven't sold yet, but as you said, with the Queen's passing there may be more interest, although they aren't of Scotland, just England. I don't believe they were signed. I hope i'm not sounding like i'm trying to capitalize on the Queen's death.

I just got a big David Winter collection so we'll see, I get the impression that the big ones sell and have value, and the smaller are just ho-hum. I am trying to sell my Minton Queen's Beasts again with her passing, and I have no compunction about it, it's the passing of time for all of us and I figure it's of genuine interest as a marker in history

Hello George , That was a beautiful Milk Glass Lamp seen in the beginning. Would that be considered a Gone With The Wind lamp.? What makes it one ? Thank you
@TheAntiqueNomad
@TheAntiqueNomad Жыл бұрын
"Gone with the Wind" lamps have a bulbous glass vase and matching bulbous shade, usually painted or decorated in the same (often floral) design. They got that name after the 1939 movie came out, they are based on Victorian parlor lamps but frankly most we see are 1950s-1970s

@TheAntiqueNomad

Thank you so much! I think setting some parameters for how long you keep things before you discount them is the best way to prevent reseller depth piles...find a way to keep track of dates you got things and start lowering prices after 6 months for example

Please feel free to always report anything you see that isn't appropriate...I just reported 15 in a row today, it's a lot of work to keep up with robots who can jam us full of those things
