The most impressive part is that there was no digital editing then. No such thing as layers of video elements on a computer. Each layer was composited using analog equipment and hundreds of hours of focus and dedication. Lots of cool stuff could be done with green screens and multiple video players feeding into a mixing console, but the high quality equipment was crazy expensive and required studio space to accommodate all of it. Now people can do all this in their phones. Crazy world.

Was thrilled when I met Peter in the late 80s when I worked at a local radio station. He's very slight man, I was taken aback - they always look larger than life on TV/on screen! Very soft, deep voice, not showy at all. Just showed up at the station all alone, no entourage or anything. Made me love him even more! I was never a huge Bauhaus fan, but I do remember listening to his CDs from around that time over and over, great memories.

My family is dysfunctional. One day it was different, I was sitting with my parents and casually chatting, we were laughing, everything seemed "normal". We decided to play a music channel on the TV and while I was looking for some music I came across this song and video, I immediately liked it and turned on Shazam to find it. This song now and always will remind me of that day when it seemed like we were a normal family, a day when there was no yelling and no fighting.

❤ Reminds me of a friend who had lots of those days always around me. We should have gone out with each other but he never wanted to shout at me. Because he knew it would upset me and he had that family. Then he got a different girlfriend who he could shout at. And a different one and a different one.😂 Then he died. Life isn't strait forward and I miss him a lot. I am blessed he saw me as the dutchess and treated me like it. I miss him every single day. It cuts you up

Except for "Rise and Fall of Ziggy and Spiders From Mars" album and for his last one, Black Star where Bowie was extremely personal. But yes, his whole career was mostly "conceptual" while Murphy is more personal.
@Vojife
@Vojife 5 жыл бұрын
@@-NoneOfYourBusiness It's true that Blackstar, The Next Day and Reality were very personal albums. But Ziggy Stardust was the least personal album ever for Bowie, he said it many times himself, it was a way for him to get self-esteem on stage and he had to get rid of the character, because people were associating it with his real self too much.

why am i so drawn to this song. this is a genius song. how it comes together - the beat, the words, the voice. that voice is so haunting, cold, intense, desolate yet at the same time not defeated or hopeless. this song gives me such an inspiring sadness.

En el Renacimiento tampoco. Ahí destacan España e Italia, con compositores como Victoria o Monteverdi. En pop y rock posiblemente Inglaterra es the number one, pero en música impresionista Francia es la cúspide. Así que depende de que música estemos analizando.

Peter Murphy seems like a persona that would come from the imagination of David Bowie.
@shamanarian
@shamanarian 10 жыл бұрын
I was thinking along the same lines as I was watching him. He's been compared to Bowie many, many times in his career. Peter Murphy says that Bowie was a major influence on him. Here's an insightful 2013 interview with Peter where he speaks of this - the Google censorship Gestapo will probably censor the url so just look for the 15July2013 Peter Murphy interview on the Denver Westword blogs titled, "Peter Murphy on his former Bauhaus bandmates and how he's a pain in the ass sometimes". Here are 2 excerpts, one the intro by the interviewer, the other by Peter during the interview. About 1/3 of this 2 page interview is devoted to Peter's total adoration for Bowie and how gracious Bowie is to him. Interviewer: "We recently spoke with the charming, thoughtful and self-effacingly humorous Murphy about touring without his ex-bandmates, his love of and missed connections with his unofficial music teacher David Bowie and how ancient esoteric thought has informed his work as an artist and human being generally." ... Peter: "I think they should call me the new Bowie. I'm what Bowie should have been. He's put out seventy albums. Not one of my albums is bad. What does that mean? I mean, I love him. He's my teacher. He's Bowie. Come on! But he has done some shit work for ages. We want him to be him. We want him back. I'm sorry. I took over. That last album, the first single, was the smell of Bowie coming back there. Love him to death." p.s. I should reveal that David Bowie was my hero when I was in my totally off-the-deep-end, other-worldly early 20s. I even tried to dress like him and lead an insane life like him, as best I could on a much, much lower budget. LOL That's about all I can reveal, because it was truly a surrealistic lifestyle like in the films of the period (example - Performance with Mick Jagger and of course Bowie's Ziggy Stardust movie). Isn't it hard to imagine that Bowie took the Trans-Siberian Express dressed much of the time in his Ziggy Stardust-type clothes, all the way across the Soviet Union when the Cold War was just starting to warm up a bit in Spring, 1973? He had aerophobia, so he couldn't fly from his last gig in Japan to his next gig in Moscow, so he rode the famous T-S Express 9000 km from Vladivostok to Moscow. Here's how a Russian observer in Vladivostok described him: "“They say he was wearing a silver cloak, red trousers and his hair was of some kind of radical colour…..” The musician clearly stood out against the background of conservatively dressed Soviet citizens, I think my version of heaven would be to have the ability to re-live any part of my life, like Billy Pilgrim in Kurt Vonnegut's "Slaughterhouse-Five." :)))
