I wouldn't put it past the Canadian Govt either though, with all that new NATO money floating around we could potentially replace all of the older C7 and C8s in service with new built ones at the very least. Also worth noting that these are closer to Canadian army spec than the Dutch ones. The Dutch slapped new railed handgaurds on most of theirs IIRC.

If Denmark had donated the C7 rifles, they would most likely have had a danish HMAK marking with a crown on the lower receiver. Denmark does also not use the 6x powered scopes, they use the C7A2 3.4X optics for both rifles and machineguns.

Excellent analysis, especially considering that we are talking about the AR-platform in which furniture and other parts are often so easily mixed-and-matched in the field. You could find Diemaco receivers with US Colt parts or vice versa. Also, these rifles are donated with whatever parts the donor armory happens to have lying around - spanning different generations of the AR-platform. The only way to really know the story of these C7s/C8s is to find a pic of a receiver up-close and match the serials with official docs - which is obviously a tremendous task in an ongoing war.

They definitely have to be Dutch C7A1s. The Devtek (Diemaco) lowers are definitely from the Netherlands if they have a “NL” suffix on the serial number. Devtek lowers are typically export rollmarks. Danish C7s would have a royal crown rollmark with the text “HMAK” underneath the crown icon, where newer Danish Colt Canada lowers would use the same crown rollmark but with the letters “FMT.”

Imo the failing of the first iteration of the C7 in Cdn. svc. was that the rear sight should have been the 'drum' style rearsight of the M16A2. This seemed to me to be a no brainer considering the C1A1 had a 'disc' rear sight very similar to the M16A2 rear sight. This did not happen. I suppose the decision to keep the 'adjust elevation with the nose of a cartridge' rear sight was one based on statistical probability. I can say it made figuring out elevation for CFSAC practice stages 'interesting'to put it mildly. We were instructed to keep it at the default 300 metre zero setting.
@jarvy251
@jarvy251 Жыл бұрын
The driving opinion was that the M16A2 style sight was excellent for static range competition, but problematic in the field. The quick-adjust windage and elevation knobs of the A2 sights were often accidentally moved while transported or carried. Losing your zero was a pretty steep price to pay for having fine adjustments a soldier probably wouldn't make in a firefight, so they kept the 300m "set and forget" battle sight found on the M16A1.

There's one thing that regularly pops up in photos and videos of Ukrainian firearms : *(spoken in Neo/John Wick's voice) Suppressors. Lots of suppressors.* Most of the time, I saw them on AK-74's, but it's clear from this video that it's also in use with the C7/C8 family. This does raise a few questions : 1) Why do the Ukrainians field so many suppressors ? Have they reached the same conclusion that the tradeoffs are favorable as the USMC did ? 2) Where are the suppressors produced ? I suppose the suppressors for the AK-74's are produced in Ukraine, but not so sure about the C7/C8. 3) Are the suppressors durable enough for their use ? 4) Are suppressed MGs a thing in Ukraine ? I remember seeing suppressors being tested on MGs, and for a relatively limited automatic fire, it was clearly ok.

You can tell the origin by the SN# Netherlands will have a postfix of ND and Dane ones will have DK but they will have a crown with HMAK. So looking at the rifles you showed they came from the Netherlands. They had the Devtec D on the side of the Magwell, My guess is if you see the sn# it will have the ND postfix. There is always a possibility they were COTS guns without any identification of who the end user was but I doubt it. This comes from research I did for my book Black Rifle 2/Americas Rifle

@@VictorManuel-pf7se Because American 'Colt' is generally just a collection of Chinesium parts with the Pathetic Pony stamped on them, and it's been that way for quite a long time, with very few exceptions. Diemaco picked up where Colt left off, and stayed modernizing their factor and keeping good quality control. Colt devolved and sold out a long time ago.

Danish person here, as far as I can tell, the markings on the rifles you have pictured are not the same as those on the "Gevær M/95"; Denmark uses, the ones I have seen in Danish service has the Royal crown of Denmark on them and they say "HMAK" underneath....also as far as I am aware Denmark only uses the ELCAN 3.4x C79 on all their small arms, even on the M2 Browning machine gun, I have never seen the "ELCAN Hi-Mag" in Danish service. So in other words; I highly doubt those were supplied by Denmark.
