It's not just the rifling that limits the use of round. The recoil delay system itself is designed for the lower powered steel cartridge. Using the higher power SS109 rounds poses an increased danger of failure over time.

As much as Ukrainian logistics must be a fucking nightmare, I honestly think that it's a very precious learning opportunity for NATO logistics. From the get-go, the entire goal behind standardized interchangeable equipment like STANAG magazines, picatinny rail systems, 5.56 and 7.62 calibers, etc. was to make logistics simpler, especially even when faced with different member countries' varied weapon designs. The Ukraine War is the true testing ground for NATO logistics that GWOT and joint military exercises could never be.

research the Coo that happened in Ukraine in 2014. The people of Eastern Ukraine voted to join Russia again and a few days after the vote passed a violent overthrow of the government and installation of a puppet leader prior to Zelinski happened. Then for almost 9 years they have been shelling the cities of Eastern Ukraine and have been killing civilians daily. Totalling almost 20,000 civilians in almost a decade. Putin had warned Western leaders for years to stop killing ethnic Russians there and encroaching on Russian territory but They Refused to abide by there own (Minsk accord) and Putin finally said enough is enough and started the Special Military Operation. You have been lied to by Corporate media your whole life.

An absolute great firearm that has proven its worth in many battles and was ahead of its time back then. Unfortunately internal politics, the frenchs aversion to NATO and their inability to adapt has lead to its demise and subsequent replacement. Had the french a bit of foresight and updated the rifle to NATO standard (30rnd STANAG, brass cartridges, picantinny rails etc. ) it would still be around. They should have done what the croatians did with the HS VHS2, which ironically was developed as a replacement for all the Famas types. Truly a shame, especially now where gun design has stangnated and every nation just adopts soje form of M4 clone. I hope the ukrainians that use the Famas can atleast get some use out of it.

Also interesting to see what happens with captured arms, I already saw that a lot of NATO rifles are taken into Chechen forces or into PMC groups (often the buy civilian versions and somehow transport it into Russia).

Doesn't surprise me that many nations upgrading to new weapons systems would be "gifting" it's old armament to Ukraine and similar countries that they want to build good will with. With Ukraine however, they seem to have a zillion different small arms of all eras and calibers right now. I'm sure they're happy to have whatever they can get their hands on, but I can't imagine how much of a logistical nightmare that must be in regards to ammunition, spare parts, etc..

@leneanderthalien
@leneanderthalien 7 ай бұрын
