As much as Ukrainian logistics must be a fucking nightmare, I honestly think that it's a very precious learning opportunity for NATO logistics. From the get-go, the entire goal behind standardized interchangeable equipment like STANAG magazines, picatinny rail systems, 5.56 and 7.62 calibers, etc. was to make logistics simpler, especially even when faced with different member countries' varied weapon designs. The Ukraine War is the true testing ground for NATO logistics that GWOT and joint military exercises could never be.

research the Coo that happened in Ukraine in 2014. The people of Eastern Ukraine voted to join Russia again and a few days after the vote passed a violent overthrow of the government and installation of a puppet leader prior to Zelinski happened. Then for almost 9 years they have been shelling the cities of Eastern Ukraine and have been killing civilians daily. Totalling almost 20,000 civilians in almost a decade. Putin had warned Western leaders for years to stop killing ethnic Russians there and encroaching on Russian territory but They Refused to abide by there own (Minsk accord) and Putin finally said enough is enough and started the Special Military Operation. The FAMAS was designed for M193, BEFORE the adoption from the definitive Nato SS109 ammo, this is the real cause from this probleme, but the older Famas with proprietary magazines and steel cases are scraped or improved (new barell and magazine attachment) to be compatible with M16 type magazines (Famas valorisé, Felin or surbaissé) or Stanag curved magazines (Famas G2)
@chemcom2767 ай бұрын
We use Famas since the 70’s, when Germans used G3, Italians the BM59, Brits the FAL…. Nobody used stanag mags in EU 50 years ago, because there were probably NO stanag mags during this period.

You would think there has to be some simple way to modify the gun to use regular ole STANAG mags so that way the proprietary ones would not be such a pain in the ass. I would also be interested to know which rifle the majority of the soldiers prefer to use. I've just recently come across a Ukrainian KZbinr. He seems to have access to all kinds of weapons. On his latest rifle video, he claims the SCAR-L is the best rifle so far. He prefers this rifle over the AK-74, Bren 2, and Daniel Defence. I'm quite surprised considering the The SCAR-L's reputation is not very well received

Doesn't surprise me that many nations upgrading to new weapons systems would be "gifting" it's old armament to Ukraine and similar countries that they want to build good will with. With Ukraine however, they seem to have a zillion different small arms of all eras and calibers right now. I'm sure they're happy to have whatever they can get their hands on, but I can't imagine how much of a logistical nightmare that must be in regards to ammunition, spare parts, etc..
@intelprointelpro44527 ай бұрын
@leneanderthalien7 ай бұрын

I talked with a guy that served in the soviet army during the afghan war, I am pretty much sure he would say that ten mags are nothing. Also saw a video of a Russian that fought in the early stages of the war, he said that soldiers would often use dozens of under-barrel grandes, hand grenades, and hundreds of bullets in one fight. The soldier stated that he used around 12-14 hand grenades and one RShG (РШГ) to clear a house, and they would clear dozens of them as a unit....

It will be interesting to see what Ukraine standardizes on after Russia is kicked in the balls and out of all of Ukraine. The FAMAS is probably to expensive overall to be their standard issue post-war. BUT it is a good firearm in some situations, such as driver pdw for vehicles, or rear-line guard duty.
