Thank you very much for a wonderful tutorial. The information about the style of brushes was particularly useful. I really like the result and the lovely realism but still retaining the watercolour effects.

I found your work very interesting and informative. Thank you for sharing your skills. As a newcomer to painting animals fir with water colour paints I will need to practice your techniques before trying to paint a picture

You can modify a cheap or old brush as well. For a round cut the tapered portion of the bristles off, either flat horizontal or at an angle. Don't go too far down it will give better "flick" if there is a bit of length left. You may find it easiest to wrap the bristles in tape before cutting, or cut it a few bristles at a time. For flats try cutting into the edge of the bristles to leave a thin ragged edge.

What if you want a background? How do you keep the feathered edge of fur?
@SarahNewburyArt
@SarahNewburyArt 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Debrah! If you want a background and you're using the dry brush technique for fur, I would either paint the background first, wait for it to dry and then paint the fur.... or, paint the fur and then once its dry, paint the background wet on wet around the subject to keep the feathered edge. Hope this makes sense! 😊

Any suggestions on color matching fur? I always find it quite difficult especially for animals with variegated coats.
@SarahNewburyArt
@SarahNewburyArt 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! There are a few things you can do to help you with colour matching. You can import your reference photo into a programme like 'paint' or photoshop (I sometimes just use PowerPoint as I don't have photoshop!) and use the colour dropper tool to help you pick up the different colours within the fur. Or you can print out your reference photo and test out some colours around the different areas before you start. You can also play around with the colour saturation of your reference photo too, as that will highlight colours that you might not see - such as the pinks or purples in this rabbits white fur. I would also say paint what colours you see as it will make for a more interesting painting..... as long as your values are right, it will look great 😊
