I saw Tool only once live, back in 98. Maynard was dressed up snd acting out his role as a charismatic preacher. It was amazing and hilarious. He kept taking his clothes off until he was down to his tighty whiteys, rolling around, putting in 160% Of an emotional trancendental performance. I have always wanted to go see them again since. I personally thought FEAR INNOCULUM was a subdued Tool release. Because it was 13 years since the last slamming record. They had aged, matured, deepened, however to put it. Its a great album, its just that we missed two or three in between, the ones that would have bridged the gap and lead the progression.

Saw TOOL November 6th in Rochester in an arena small enough that they weren’t sure the full stage setup was going to work. Well, it did, the whole place was right on top of the band, and we could have been on the moon for all I knew. I hadn’t seen them in over 26 years (Lollapalooza ‘97), and their performance and soundcraft have aged better than Maynard’s wines.

I was at the Rochester show, too. BCA gives a muddy sound. My buddy and I thought Steel Beans was fantastic. I have to agree with Art - I'd like to have heard 46&2 or Lateralus or Vicarious or any of the other "MTV hits". They've really leaned away from their more hard rock content in their setlist the past few tours. I suppose Maynard would tell me where to point my finger?

That was a very accurate review, and I saw a very similar show in Allentown on 11-7-23, minus Swamp Song of course. However, the "slow-down" part of the concert you were talking about, I must say I really enjoyed that. I'm not sure why, but I have never listened to Culling Voices all that much, and after seeing it live, I just really dig that song a lot. It really reinvigorated my attention. This was my 3rd time seeing them, but the first two times, was during the Lateralus tours, and feel like a lifetime ago. I had such a good time, and it only makes me want to see them again sometime. They closed our show with 46 & 2, which was great. So cool Adam saw your video, and contacted you. I hear they are all really cool down to earth people. Great video man. Peace!

When I go see a band that's been around as long (or longer) than Tool, and I have seen that band multiple times, I get excited if they play one "deep track" from back in the day. I think by them just playing Swamp Song, you got your money's worth. I am seeing them in Baltimore this January, fingers crossed for "this bog is thick and easy to get lost in...."

Tool was my last (and favorite) concert in 2006. The stage was entirely clear plexiglass/polycarbonate (yes the floor too). They were all wearing socks, lol. Maynard talked about the awesome grape fields they had there at the Gorge, in George, Washington. Jambi was on the album at the time. It is a great song for a live performance, as well as the Grudge. That's awesome that you got to see them on Halloween, and the 13th row. How you managed that is impressive luck/unluck! Sucks they didn't play any more songs. They played an encore-like thing out at the gorge way back when. But I can understand dealing with a blizzard is not fun while on tour.

I was on a moderate dose of mushrooms, and I had a space where I could vibe out and get pretty wild without bothering anybody. I actually loved the way culling voices came in that was super trippy and they are playing everything off of Fear Inoculum minus tempest right now so you’re only going to get three or four songs that aren’t on that album during this tour.

I saw them in Winnipeg on the 29th. It was f***ing mind-blowing! Had 100 section, nearest stage (Adam Jones side). Loud and heavy as a freight train! Super tight! Steel Beans was impressive. I think I caught the same set list as you. I agree, breaking some of those drone jams up with a rocker, like Hooker With A Penis, or something would’ve been cool. Jambi was never one of my favs, but live… holy F-bomb! I have a whole new perspective on that song. LOVE TOOL!

Maynard didn't throw candy. He had a sack of those disguise glasses like they were wearing. I was lucky enough to catch a pair. I'm kind of a bass head so rather enjoyed steel beans. But standing front row and 7 feet from the subwoofers, I did begin to fear for the safety of my internal organs. I've seen TOOL about a dozen times and they never disappoint.

Yess! I've been looking forward to this! I went to Download festival in 2019 (Formerly called Monsters of Rock) and I was pretty unfamiliar with a lot of bands then compared to now. It was only after some time had passed, I looked at the bill and realised Tool was on it, they headlined the last night and I didn't watch their set 🤦‍♀️ Well, what an idiot I felt, but never mind, that's in the past now. I just gotta hope they come to the UK again soon. When I go to gigs, I head straight for the barrier and I don't leave til the gig is over haha 😂. Omg now you've said it and shown him I know who Steel Beans is, I've seen his videos too. Super talented guy. You did an awesome job playing 2 instruments! That drum riser with those graphics was soo trippy. When I went to see KISS in 2019 I got to watch from the pit (a very kind dude gave me a VIP pass) so I got to watch the show and experience the ticker tape confetti at the end of the show in the pit, feet away from the stage. I collected some as a memento. Love the t shirt you chose. Nice simple design. Congrats on 836k Subscribers!

Saw them recently too, and I also thought that the post-intermission part of the setlist is a little lacking, even though I do really like Culling Voices and Invincible. At my show they played Aenema as the final song, which was awesome, but I think if they played *two* songs after Invincible, both of them older up-tempo 'hits', it would probably give the second part of the show more impact and a bit more balance. They've also been playing 46&2 and Stinkfist in that last spot, apparently, so I think if they did two out of those three to close the show, it would turn an awesome show into an incredible one.

(4:29) Historic footage of when Mike G. (guitarist of thrash metal band Sanctus) "covered" heavy metal band Black Sabbath's "Sweet Leaf" on drums while simultaneously playing Jimmy Page's (of the hard rock band Led Zeppelin) signature white double-neck Gibson EDS-1275 guitar as part of his KZbin video commentating on progressive metal band Tool's concert and their opening act (the multi-genre solo artist Steel Beans) which took place at Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota, on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 (Halloween) Oh yeah, along with what appears to be Windows Media Player visualizations overlaid onto the footage 🤣 This was a great concert review Mike

I adore Tool, but I feel like their live show could improve a bit. They're doing much less improvisation and jamming than in the old days, plus they're not putting in the effort to match the layers and overdubs present in their song. Maynard used to play keys and guitar to fill up space in songa during the Lateralus era

I saw this video cam out before going to see Tool up here in Manchester and I decided to hold off on watching it until after the concert, but I distinctly remember how poorly mixed Steel Beans was and how overwhelming the kick and cymbals were. I think "Invincible" was the song that moved me the most at my last TOOL concert. It's true that it doesn't start at full speed immediately and takes a few minutes before reaching full level... but calling it boring or too slow seems a bit excessive to me. I remember having chills the whole time and the only "unpleasant" thing was the pain in my ears. The volume was worthy of the level of the group... the sound practically disheveled you, but in such a long song and with such an aggressive ending, at the end I had the very strong need to cover my ears because they hurt. The problem is that I tried a couple of times, but I liked it so much that I immediately uncorked it every time... I risked going deaf so as not to interrupt my enjoyment.

One of those rare bands that sound as good or better than the album in concert. I saw Tool in 1999 not knowing anything about them or their music - in those days no screens, lasers or effects. Maynard stood on a rotating disc off to one side toward the back, constantly keeping himself turned away from the audience. I thought this was brilliant - still consider it one of the best shows I’ve ever seen.

Your experience with Steel Beans sounds nearly identical to mine with Paris Monster a couple weeks ago. They opened fir The Darkness. Paris Monster is a guy that does vocals, keys, and drums. He had a bassist, too, though. The kick drum was so loud I felt like it was changing my heart rhythm and/or beating me up. It was horrible. And this was in the Vic Theater, not some large stadium tyoe venue. I was second "row" in the standing area in front of the stage and had to laugh a bit because I could see someone's water bottle sitting on the barrier, with ripples going across the top surface, Jurassic Park style. Wonder if Steel Beans is inspired by or copying Paris Monster (or vice versa). Anyway, thanks for another great video!

The first time I saw Puscifer was 11/16/2009 & it was a surprise for my wife's birthday & was at the Roseland in Portland, OR (pretty small place with folding chairs in rows set up). I bought the package that included row 1 seats & a winet asting (prior to the show) where we sat at large, round dinner tables & learned about wine & Maynard's brand called Caduceus. Sure enough towards the end Maynard walked into the banquet room where we all were & gave each one of us an autographed copy of "V is For...." We were told to stay seated so he came up to each & everyone of us individually & handed us a copy. One of the best shows of my life; row 1 with no security fence so the tips of my tows were pressed up against the stage from where I sat. Cheers!

I saw them a couple weeks ago and mostly agree with your review. They closed with Aenema and it was pretty hype, since the last time I saw them was more than 20 years ago on their Aenima tour (feels weird typing those out with the different spellings). My personal highlight was Rosetta Stoned, especially with the ominous grey alien hovering on the screen behind them, and it might have been a coincidence, but they had a 7-point star hanging down in front of the screen and it lined up with the alien head like a third eye or something. Unfortunately, they had an abridged version of Lost Keys as the intro to RS, but I feel like that sequence is where the laser show really kicked in so it was really amazing. On one hand, it was great that they played the entire Fear Inoculum album, but I would have LOVED to hear more older cuts like Third Eye or Prison Sex. I'd also give it an 8/10. It would have been nice to see some of the old eccentric costumes MJK used to don, but the big screen CGI and laser show made up for it.

I’ve been fortunate to have seen them 4 times, starting in the early to mid 90s at an early Lollapalooza. They played No Quarter well before it was released as a studio recording, it blew me away. Maynard was dressed like a Geisha. Saw them again in 2002 I believe again around 06 and the last time in 21. They have been amazing every time. I’ve noticed more bands chucking the opening act in favor of just playing the night by themselves and taking an intermission. The Grateful Dead always did that and Billy Strings is doing it as well now that he’s playing arenas. I like it but I also used to like seeing bands I may not have heard of opening for the main acts. I guess if you have the music, why not

This was my 6th tool show. Although the band is always amazing, I did not like their choice of songs considering it was almost a carbon copy of last year at the Target Center. It would of been nice if they pulled out some songs that haven't really been done in a long time...Swamp Song was actually refreshing to hear live and had that energetic and angry Tool sound from Undertow. The Fear Inoculum stuff is mostly boring (accept Pneuma), leave out Descending and some of those other downer songs for people paying hundreds of dollars to see you play your best songs (and there are a lot of great Tool songs!) I guess after seeing them 5 times before this show I expected too much. I've seen them play at the RiversEdge Fest in St. Paul in 2012 which was incredible and a few other times where they played songs like Third Eye, the Patient, Parabola, Stinkfist, Pushit, Vicarious...the band isn't as hungry as they used to be and Maynard is not interested in Tool anymore, so it's hard seeing that after you've seen them before

I remember seeing them at First Avenue for the Undertow tour. I was right up front and as soon as they hit the stage for their first song it got CRAZY on the main floor. It's the only time I've ever left the main floor/front because things got too wild. LOL

I caught them in Milwaukee the day after you. Incredible show, except I didn't care for the opener at all. Still, taking my kids to Tool was an experience I hope they never forget. Up next, Iron Maiden in October '24! Gotta drive down to Illinois, but seeing Maiden should make it worth it.

This year is the 30th anniversary of Undertow. Who knew!? Besides the $500 special edition cd, they didn't celebrate or knowledge the album at all. Not even a single track in the setlist from this album. I know they hate playing their "hits" at this point but a Undertow deepcut would be cool exception. One ambitious idea would be to bring out Henry Rollins as a support act (for spoken word, comedy, or with a band) and play the song 'Bottom' as an encore with Tool (the song he's guest on for Undertow)

I think a lot of people agree w you on Culling Voices, but it was really a highlight for me in DC last yr. Opiate was insane! Danny was really on that night. Maynard even joked about Danny not pulling his weight because he was obviously in the zone. Invincible and Culling both really puck up the tempo towards the end also

I saw tool last night in Birmingham Alabama and it was a great show and I thought the lasers were the best of any show I've seen. And I've been to quite a few shows including Roger Waters and a few Pink Floyd laser shows. So great job Maynard. Fantastic show.

I just seen them last weekend and again I love tool and they are the great live band I wasn’t impressed, maybe the collisium we were in but in the same collisium about 6 years ago they were the best live concert I have ever seen and I’ve seen a thousand!!! But I will never say NO to a tool show !! 6 years ago they played every single hit👍💪✌️

I saw Tool last year, and I liked the encore of Chocolate Chip Trip, Culling Voices, and Invincible, but I saw them again last week, and I thought it was a bit boring. Maybe it was seeing the same set of songs as the encore more so than it being the songs themselves. I'll most likely see them again next year, but I hope the setlists vary a bit more than they did for 22 and 23 tours.

Saw them in Winnipeg. Steel Beans first song was cool then the rest of the set did nothing for me. Dont think Tool needs a warm up. The intermission with Tool killed it for me. I agree 8/10

I've seen them in every decade since the Lateralus release and I just feel their set list gets more stale with every show. 2003 was the epitome of greatness, 2010 was pretty solid but a little underwhelming, and 2022 was very meh. I've chosen not to see them in 2024 cause it seems to be a continuation of the 2022 tour and I just wasn't feeling it. I also agree with you that the vibe dies with their long slow songs. Drives me mad that they only play like 10 songs total and drag each song out like 15 mins. I'm just thankful I caught them a handful of times in the early 2000s.

Totally agree with you on Culling Voices and I'm bored with Desecding. I've seen them 10 times and the first two legs of the tour, where they totally changed up the old song setlist, with the same Fear Innoculem tracks. But they only changed one song for this third leg so screw the $500, especially as they average only one song from Opiate and Undertow and 7 from Lateralus, they need to celebrate their music without Justin too. And spare us one or two from the last album this third time around please. It wasn't your best work and I paid to see it twice already

I saw them front row in Boston, and I have to say, it was the best show I've been to. When they came up and sat for Culling Voice, it was truly special, and adding in Invincible, I had to fight some tears. Their music has helped me work through some personal issues, and the emotion was overwhelming. In a great way! Justin was almost directly in front of me, and every fiber of my being wanted to go hug/high five him, though I have too much respect/ common sense to do such a thing haha. I do agree about Steel Beans. Very talented, but between the kick drum and the feedback, it made me feel awful. Thankfully, the moment Tool started playing, it dissipated.

Toronto night 2 - Pneuma, Invincible, Descending killed it. Rosetta made me so happy. Closed with Forty Six & 2 - 10/10 show. No they don't bang out the hits. That's their style. Sure I'd love to hear Sober and Schism and Lateralus and Aenima etc. but I walked away loving it.

Minneseeewta. Don’t worry I’m from Chicahhgo & have family not too far from you that I’ve visited frequently all my life. I saw Tool in Louisville & being at the back of the crowd kinda sucked because of the visuals on the screens instead of the band BUT Maynard did indeed stay in the shadows most of our show too so you’re not alone. He’s an insane genius lol. I love Tool but let’s be honest a lot of their music is psychedelic “jam band” stuff. I don’t mind it but, it makes it hard to discern one song from the other sometimes.

I was up against the very barricade post that kept coming up out of its cup causing security to continually force everyone to move back until Marylyn Manson took the stage. I got to see two songs before the barricade came out of the cup again. Manson claimed he wouldn't play any longer and left, citing this barricade, setting off a full on riot in which the K. C. Swat was brought in. The venue was totally destroyed. That night I watched the carnage on MTV news.

The security at Tool shows has always been awful, I say this even as someone who supports no phone policies. There are much more respectful ways to do it than having aggressive tough guys throw out anyone who is even suspected of recording.

This was my 11th Tool show. Did VIP, 8th row on Adam's side. The security was so overbearing that it almost ruined it for me. Totally felt like a bovine being herded. I actually like not having to watch the show through a sea of phone screens. But security rudeness and superior attitude were over the top! 1st time I've seen Rosetta Stoned live, was epic!
