Here are some affective ways that you can help prevent an autism burnout before it gets too much. REGISTER NOW! Coping Secrets Masterclass 👉 www.copingsecrets.com/masterc...
1. Take Regular Breaks
Taking regular breaks during your work or life can definitely help you reduce the risk of a burn out happening. We all have lots going on in our lives and if we don’t take breaks to just catch a breath we could burn out very easily.
2. Know Your Limits
One of the best ways to prevent an autism burnout is to know your limit of how much you can take on and do over a course of a working week a planned holiday or a trip or anything that you know it’s going to involve a lot from you know your limit and went to carpet so you don’t do too much and cause a burnout.
3. Don’t Over Do It
This is super important lots of people take on too many jobs to many tasks and try to push themselves when they can clearly not deal with it. Pushing yourself to prove something only proves one thing it proves that you can’t deal with that much on your plate and it causes a burn out so the rule here is don’t over do it.
4. Reach Out If You Struggle
Lots of people are too proud and very stubborn and they don’t reach out for help when they are struggling when they’ve having too much and this can leave one feeling very isolated and down. Reaching out to people when you need help when you are struggling is one of the best ways because a problem shared is a problem halved and you will get good results for sharing problems with friends.
5. Implement Relaxation Time
There is a golden rules that we must all follow relaxation time giving yourself time out of your busy regular schedule to create relaxing calm environment is not just healthy for your mind it’s also healthy for your body so remember take time to implement a relaxation schedule put this into your daily life and your weekly life and it will help improve your body mind soul and morale.
There are a lot of autism burnout signs that can help trigger you to do something about it but if you’re not looking after these then it’s not affective.
Autism burn out symptoms can vary just as much as autism burn out treatment this isn’t always the best way to deal with your potential burn out.

I don't experience burnout, but I do experience bore out. That happens when you do to much of the same things over and over again, until you get so bored that you can't enjoy other things.

6. I've found making daily to-do lists to be helpful. Don't put anything big items on the list. After a couple of weeks of knocking out a bunch of daily small stuff (little 1-hour tasks), you can build your confidence back to the point you can start addressing some of the bigger projects.

I wish this worked in my situation. I can't take up from work, and I don't really have help when it's busy. Plus I'm up super early, I'm not a morning person and I have trouble sleeping regardless of CBD oil, sleeping pills. Working with people as well, clients sales men is exhausting me. Then at times impossible expectations. Plus it affects my personal life. I'm always tired, mentally I feel like I'm becoming dumbed down, extra forgetful. And no one understands it. I can't push on anymore, and I can't stop. I don't have a choices.

I did an essay about girls with autism and the consequences of not getting a diagnosis (which men can experience too! But my essay was specifically about girls). But one thing was autism burnout, and it's really interesting how it's different from regular burnout and how your autism can get "worse". Like a girl who could make eye contact and small talk finds it harder after burnout, and a young boy who could speak lose most or all of his words. Theres many reasons for it but the main was masking and not getting a diagnosis in time which leads to what you're saying - you not taking a break and listening to your body. You just gogogo until you cant. A girl I read about just had to study at a regular school (she did study hard tho) and have a regular work schedule to get burnout. It really proves how you cant get over autism and how important it is to accept it

I agree. My issue was that a I didn’t know that I was autistic and tried to push myself. I was always wondering why I can’t handle things that everyone else can. Since a I have finally figured out that I have ASD I have been trying to be more easy in myself.

Figuring out that I'm autistic is a fairly recent thing in my life. When I was in my early 20's I was working, going to school, and volunteering. I went into a massive burnout that essentially stripped me of all my masks. I lost my job, had to drop out of school and got really sick. I lost my friends and had a family member say that they didn't know who I was anymore, which really hurt. I've been accused of being too needy. I do have a lot of family that are supportive and understanding of my needs as I've learned how to voice them. I didn't graduate from high school, I eventually got my G.E.D. and passed in the 99th percentile. It is frustrating to know that I'm highly intelligent but can't succeed in traditional learning environments. I don't experience burnouts very often, but I do have to deal with shutdowns and the occasional meltdown. My primary solution is taking naps in my sensory reduced bedroom. I live with my mom and brother who are much more aware of my limits and reading me, so that helps with a lot of it. I am semi-non-verbal and we have found work-arounds for that.
@abmrose

Yes yes yes! It’s so much harder- and easier to melt down- at that point. I don’t have a diagnosis and have been considering whether it would be worth it to go through all the work at this point. But I’m starting to think it might (34 female). Would you be up for pming me the essay? I’d love yo read it. Thanks.

I have a special way to help with my depression and burn outs. I sing songs from my home country Finland. These are the ones that help me out the most. Minä (english: Me) by my favorite finnish singer Irina, she has been my favorite ever since I was a little boy. Kyyneleet (Tears) by an old finnish girl band Tiktak. They also made an english version of it Why girls cry. Welcome to my life by Sunrise Avenue. It's a song that makes me happy. Indian by Sturm ung Drang. It's a pretty sad song that is so satisfying to sing with my strong sweet and dark singing voice.

Speaking of knowing your limits; I ran into this last night at the local overcrowded grocery store getting some last-minute supplies. I recognized before going to the store that it was likely to be very crowded. I took a moment in the parking lot to mentally map the route I was going to take to the two products I needed. For a neurotypical person that may seem excessive, but as I am understanding more these days, that when I have to react to the external world that my ability to recall info or what I was after is very much hampered. Unless I refresh that short-term memory with what I will need to go accomplish I have a much harder time and have much more stress and anxiety trying to complete that task. I managed to weave in and out of all the people and make it to the registers and back to my car with my self in check with out too much frustration. I still needed to decompress in my quiet space for a couple hours but that is much better than had I not been prepared. Had I not I very likely would have lost most of the evening. I know it's Holiday rush time but I also know that I won't get to enjoy the whole point of it as much than if I am hiding from (or being overly grumpy with) my family or desensitizing myself in some other manner if I don't prepare a little. Yes it can be irritating to do all the time but that's my particular reality. I'd love to be taller too but lets call a duck a duck. 🦆 (I'm only 5'3") Happy holidays to everybody! Remember the people in your life who *really* count, your friends and your family, will understand if you don't get that last present bought or that last cookie made. It should be about spending time with those you love and enjoying.

Hey Dan, thanks for this. Recently I had an episode at work. I didn't realize I had been vituperate to a co worker, I felt no animosity towards him what so ever, but a question popped into my head one moment and I blurted it out, apparently in a confrontational manner in his eyes. I was warned about getting burned out a couple years ago from my former therapist but had never even thought of it since I moved. I obsessed over the "confrontation" for over a week when suddenly I got on KZbin and saw your upcoming video (this one) and it dawned on me: I'm hitting that point where I always hit, always, I work hard for long stretches (6 months this time) and I freak out and quit my job. This time, after seeing your upcoming video, I was able to get ahead of it. This video (when it was just in the "reminder" stage on my subscription list) made me remember my former therapist warning me that burnout is a serious thing and I need to be aware of the signs. I asked for a couple of extra days off work from my boss, and he readily and happily gave them to me (I am the only person at my job that has not asked for extra days off since I've been there in 6 months). I cannot express how much your channel has helped me. you have become my defacto therapist over the last year. I was 42 when I was diagnosed, and my whole life flashed before my eyes as one great big giant "ohhhhhhhhhh" moment. Thanks for doing what you do. Seriously. You have explained myself to me. God Bless and Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Began watching your channel about a year and a half ago to study autism for a show I was doing. I was casted to be the lead in a local production of The Curious Incident of A Dog In The Night Time. I greatly enjoyed your videos then and continue to watch them now. I also am pretty sure I'm on the spectrum, albeit on the mild side of it. Learning about how people with more severe forms of the condition deal with it is fascinating. Keep kicking ass my man. Much love.

Number 4 is spot on. Well, they all are but 4 especially. The other night I was so burnt out I was holding back a panic attack (or perhaps just internalising it) while trying to play with my kids and needed to start cooking dinner. I couldn't process what I needed to do even to cook a simple dinner. I text my boyfriend asking for help (he was upstairs) and he came down and told me to go relax upstairs while he takes care of things. Not only did he cook dinner (for me and my kids) he also hung two loads of laundry with the help of my 8 year old. It didn't stop the panic attack, but it allowed me to be myself and be safe while having said panic attack (upstairs in my room while the kids were looked after). I didn't used to feel comfortable asking anyone for help, not even my ex-husband (who is of the push yourself mindset) and now knowing who I can ask for help without judgement or guilt is amazing.

It's taken me a long time to do the kinds of things suggested in the video and PREACH the IMPORTANCE of maintaining and appreciating your support network so that your friends can feel good about helping you. Real friends will be happy with the opportunity to help! ALSO! Just a thing I can think of that I do: if things get really bad I have pre-made meals in the freezer (thanks past me!) So I don't have to prep. Having chicken and corn soup, pasta dishes, same foods u can freeze etc can be so helpful in giving that little bit of extra energy

I’ve found stated like half a day isn’t going to cut it with autism spectrum condition for breaks. Our brains have an awful time at changing gears and changing our thoughts and at a bare minimum it can take a day to do and then another 3 days to actually re-chardge. And I’ve always seen burnout as our brains manually switching gears back to neutral before we can change back into 1st gear to drive again. It’s just forceful. Basically the aim is to take burnout rest days regularly even if they are alot to ensure that you are always prepared for any spontaneous demands or you never go into burnout at the wrong time. As you control the burnout times not the other way around. Our brains need to burnout its what makes us so unique. We don’t just burnout because of masking we burnout when our brains have had a tough few weeks, months or days so we take the 4 days to drain our bodies and then recharge them. We can only go from one task to another so many times. I mean to be honest the ideal burnout time is 2 weeks and usually after a long week or month I’ll take 7-10 days off. When I’m naturally feeling burnout

Great video, thank you for your effort and time making it. I need a down day after an active day. For example on Thursday I have classes at a local mental health center and it was fun and I felt very productive although I was exhausted when I got home to my apartment and napped for two whole hours. On Friday I stayed inside and made phone calls and made lists of things I needed to do that day and for this weekend as I just did not have the energy to be out and about other than a very quick walk outside for some exercise.

Yes, and I was called lazy etc. because of this. I didn't realise that I was actually having burnouts, shutdowns, meltdowns in the years before I was diagnosed - very late. Also, there are days I can't face going out the door (or even out of bed, particularly if I've had a restless night) but, as there is a dog to consider, I'd wait until the shops close, the school children are not on their way to school or home … but more often than not, it doesn't work out that way and have to grit my teeth!

Don't be afraid to say no, and don't feel guilty for saying no. I have had to say no to several things because I have already emptied my social battery. There is no shame in rain checking on an outing when your battery is drained. You don't even have to go into detail as to why not, just say something like "I don't have the spoons for this thing" or something.

All very well if you are indirectly supported by others around you. helping you out too but you may not recognize this as being on the autistic spectrum there may well be a gap between what you feel you see and understand but somewhat different to what you actually do recognize. As there are large differences between so called 'normals' in this particular area as men on a whole are well-supported by the women in their life, that men can just say like you have done well I just take a break knowing that other matters/stuff will get done, not overlooked but the women can't do the same and guess what there are those on the spectrum whom are women that are supporting their families full time and more with others family members on the spectrum - so guess these women are the carers, mothers, wives of the 'oh I got it so bad Guys', I just take a break' and the wives, mothers, carers don't get that break as being women it's just expected of the little lady to do their stuff. Now I have opened whole new can of worms, I guess. Regards, Maureen

My husband doesn’t believe in adhd or autism and I’m blunt and honest about it. It’s quite hard to make time for myself (I have twins, one had cerebral palsy and my other son is on the spectrum- so I’m a stay at home mom and therapy is my life lol). The other day I ran errands and called to remind him that Rowan needed his exercise and to go in is walker. He didn’t do it bc his brother woke up??? Wtf he always has his brother around that’s weak excuse for not doing therapy with our son. It frustrates me so much. I must do everything! And if I ever make a mistake, it’s blown out of proportion and I use my precious energy catering to someone not willing to understand my mind or believe in add or asd. I guess I’m just venting but at the end of the day I really do have to buck up and save myself bc no one is willing to give me emotional support or help me in managing my household. The words I have always told myself ring truer and truer “you have your own back every time”.
