This is a re-release of episode 39 of The Astrology Podcast, where astrologer Nick Dagan Best joined me to talk about Venus retrograde periods, how they are defined, and what it means within the context of astrology.

🌹thank you for posting this. Since Venus returns to a sign every 8 years, I went over the years she returned to the sign of my natal Venus. In those years events I noted are: birth of sibling; I moved; spiritual awakening. I talked to a friend and she also had birth of sibling the year Venus was retrograde in her natal chart’s sign. I’d be interested to know if this particular 8 year cycle of retrograde in same sign as the natal chart Venus has been investigated. 🙏🏼🌹

Indeed, as a bonus I’ll give a Mars brief as well. Stationary Soap Operas whether they hit me OR NOT! Current Rx included-and I was policing this one! I have a 21° Virgo Sun & Saturn breathing down my ASC. Natal Saturn in 6. Facial Surgery? On the 13th? Correct! Original pre-Covid date was scheduled for the day Mars crosses 5 AQU, my ASC/Face. HA! Bring on the blades was Covid cancelled. Out of my control reschedule: May 13. Tr Jupiter square natal Uranus, Uranus ‘no natal Ptolemaic aspects’. Uranus doesn’t let me down by transit or progression even if he does NOT rule my ASC.

Venus retrograde 1st house in 8 year incriminates (this is the third time) I get terrible consecutive sinus infections and have to focus on my health. It is preceding a full moon in my 6th house..it’s an odd thing to note but they are so severe that I had to quit a job over it and forced to quit smoking, which is good! It started again this week...I see it as a wake up call regarding my health and I need to listen:)

Sag Rising? My ex and myself are both Sag Rising which was a very interesting Union for both of us. He reached out to me the day before Venus went retrograde. My sun is 17 Gemini. It was pretty cool. We’ll see what happens.

This is brilliant. Finally, a discussion of retrograde. From a physics standpoint, it’s a nuance that professional physicists are too arrogant to pay attention to, but that if they did, they could discover new maths about gravity at a distance and how it affects nuance here on earth. There’s a gradient. And a new complexity. Just waiting to be discovered and merged into the new from the ancient. But. You know. I must sound nuts to “them”.

This was fascinating!!! I never fail to learn something new or reflect on some piece of astrological knowledge that had yet moved fully into my conscious mind. Thank you so much for all that you do!!! Venus rules my 6th and 11th. In 2004, I began studying Pilates with a person who became a friend. In 2005 she and I both moved away. During the Venus retrograde of 2012, we reconnected and I became her student again. Yesterday, she contacted me from Boston UK where she now lives, to let me know that she is moving her classes online, because of Covid 19, and that I can once again become a student. Natal Venus is in my 4th house, and we have always done our workouts at my home, and still can through the wonders of technology.Now I have to go down the rabbit hole of history and politics...

Yeah I was born during the 1972 Venus Retrograde in Cancer w/ Mars in Cancer. I appreciate the Dr Jekyll Mr Hyde reference. I have overcome that...and it is through Astrology I see the clear path to stay on course with the higher aspects of my chart. And wow, this is the easy one. I have 29 degrees Pluto in Virgo in the 1st House. And Uranus in the 1st House. And I was born on a Grand Square. I have Black Moon Lilith in Scorpio. I know my Venus returns have been life-changing and even tragic, but so have, to a greater, or lesser degree, my Saturn returns, Nodal Reverse returns (this year) and nodal 9 yr. partial returns. I would love to find an astrologer could put ALL of these important astrological events together, in an 8-10 yr. plan for me. This would help a great deal. Very interesting topic guys!

Hi Chris, I have Natal Venus in Gemini in my 12th HS. The challenging consensus I’m experiencing involves being a Nurse working in a Nursing Home in New York State during this Covid crisis where on the day Venus went retrograde on the 13th Governor Cuomo made sent an Executive Order to ALL NY Nursing Homes that all Staff must be Covid tested twice a week which is causing much discussion and dissent by my peers AND the public. It’s disrupting our work/ off work schedule and causing outrage in the fact that this testing will cost MILLIONS of dollars a week. How this is going to be accomplished is being re-examined to try and accommodate the Staff’s schedule. Lots of group discussion amongst my female colleagues.

My ascendant is Gemini♊12º. The cycle began from 1996. It seems that during the cycle I was always under a lot of pressure from others to do some work and eventually burned myself out. This time when Venus was in the shadow period conjunct my ascendant my parents visited me first time after I moved to my current house in two years. I had to clean the whole house, go shopping and cook meals. Most restaurants were closed and I didn't feel safe to eat takeout. Around lunar eclipse of June 5, Venus will hit my ascendant backwards. My parents might visit me again. This time I will definitely takeout. My Venus and Moon are in 7th opposite the retrograde range and my Saturn in 4th square the range. That might explains the pressure too.

In Gemini H 10 where I have an 8 deg South Node. 8 years ago was laid off. Transiting Neptune was 3 deg Pisces opposition to natal Asc. and square to transiting Venus SD 7 deg 29 mins. 8 years . I don’t remember 2004 but 1996 I was in dispute for collecting unemployment from a temp job. Found new work. Both times relating to others is a disharmonious way. Venus went direct and I found better work. In 2012 I collected unemployment again! Now retired so who knows. Crossing SN again and square Neptune at 21 degrees. Not really looking forward to it. There will be loss is what I expect.

You could do a really great delineation of Venus retrograde cycles and Venus in relation to Mercury and Mars cycles just by taking one female social hierarchy like a girl gang or knitting shop or church group or herbalist witches of instagram coven and do a play by play, blow by blow breakdown of the shifting fashions, factions, allegiances and loyalties therein.

I'm confused, you say that Venus went retrograde in 1959, I was born in Bs. As. on the 3rd pf February 1958 and my Venus is retrograde in Acquarius, 4° and the sun is 14° in Acquarius in my 5th house,also Kyron 17° conjunct my sun, and I have already done like 5 birth charts with different astrologers and for all of them Venus was rt.🤔Anyway very inteesting discussions🙋‍♀️☺🇦🇷😘

I don't know if this really counts but : while looking at old Venus rx phases I saw that Venus went retrograde in 1989 when my mother was 3 months pregnant, and I know she almost had a miscarriage by this time and had to stay home without doing intense movements until I was born. What is also "funny" is that the rx started at the exact opposition degree of my AC, and transited around my natal Saturn, but I don't know much about how to interpret prenatal transits.

Basically i feel currently like a dead man. This whole retrograde multiple cycle of sat ven jup and nodes ingress into twins really knocked me down - literally. You do not want to see how i look, currently. My face completely smashed. The show started when after sat retrograde during my work i went into ally mcbeal mode with a jubox of music inside of me, all related somehow to christmas- shane mcgowan, wham, etc. Etc. Borke up with bf via text when Saturn was exactly conjunct my venus star point at 1.53 Aquarius a couple of weeks ago. And I blocked him. Venus is currently my time lord this year, and today the day of the Venus retrograde I've now gone and unblocked him again, he'd been on my head all day. I've not text him though, im awaiting to see how he will respond to the unblocking.

Can someone help me see what Im missing with the attribution of 'desire' to Venus? Ive usually thought of desire being Martial, being in the fire and water triplicities. I can get my head around Venus being 'Eros' and so a desire in that sense. Is that what others are getting?

1980 I was 3 and a half years of age and in kindergarden, living in town Wolfsburg in a skyscraper, not much remembrance. 1988 I was in school must have been end of 4th grade when then I wrote a poem to my class teacher out of 24 stophes each 4 lines ( moved her to tears, big love ) 1996 I was in a special kind of alternative school in Bielefeld and next to university. it was the end of my first year at there, having choosen the wrong subject and being alienated a lot, but I tried to get in touch with alternative movements outside school like food coops and stuff. Eventually I joined the university choir in some time, but not sure if it was then. or participated in other groups of sport or stuff. founding a dream interpretation group or stuff. Playing underwater rugby for the first and last time in my life. 2004 I went pregnant, early pregnancy. I remember during venus retrograde in same sign when it crossed the sun I went to have a look through the equipment of the observatory and walked back by foot over the countryside when a man followed me which was kinda unnice experience somehow because he had some expectations and I could not live up to that and had difficulties to get a distance or what. 2012 I was a lot in my little garden community and had my second daughter with me as well. It was after we had moved into this flat and my older daughters first year of school and her having first friends... Difficult time. now... I am just about writing letters to reflect on love and life. my friends grandfather just died now when it startet to retrograde and I learned more about my family history from my uncle. Thinking about writing my mum a real letter instead of mails since I have cut the contact for a while but she mentioned she wondered what I was doing. It happens in my 11th and then 10th house. gonna work in garden again but as well learn more about astrology - and live life with body - not social dis dancing. cirlce is getting small but as well bigger. in the earlier years it was I guess more in my 10th house and since it moves forward 2 degrees each 8 years to turn retrograde... it had entered my 11th I guess in 2004, not sure. the sabian symbol of this time moving retrograde is the couples barn dance... fitting to that my uncle told me my grandparents learned to know each other in a kirmes probably when they lived in villages 4 km apart after war.
