True, but at least every channel wasn’t the same thing. With part one to part 50. Everything today is rehashed from years ago. Just the special effects are better by far. I haven’t watched TV in 3 years.

It was a little cheesy sometimes, especially around the fourth season or whenever Murdock got too chatty. But most the time it was a wonderful combination of comedy and action that was too good to pass up.

Ah, watched this show religiously 7 and 8 years old. I was the channel/volume remote control as Dad would ask "Say son, could you turn it up a little?" I do remember our entire family watching this as it had a little bit for everyone to enjoy.

I live in Finland and I saw this show as a kid and this episode on TV and I remember even back then going: Wait a minute, there are no mountains or pine trees in Florida.

(Aside: after a hurricane comes through, the pine trees look like cotton swabs - smooth shafts with a little puff at the end. Reason: the storm strips the branches and needles off except for a little puff of green at the top of each tree.)

Recently I watched all of the episodes over five DVDs. They relied so heavily on Murdock and he came through every time. He was easily an underrated character of the crew.

Murdock was later permanently discharged and released from the psychiatric hospital in season 5. But he's still crazy and funny.

Speaking of drivers like that back when I was a kid my mom drove just like that to the grocery store when they had their sales and coupons in the local paper and yard sales posted in the weekend news papers man she used to break the sound barrier in our old Dodge Dart and she probably set new land speed records I recon. The reasons the cops wouldn't write her a ticket was the all fuss she threw at em... I had a tough child hood with a maniac behind the wheel for a mother..

Minus the mountains part, note the name of the town. It's not a real FL town, BUT there is a podunk town in North Florida called Starke that for years was known as one of the more worst speed traps in the country along with nearby Waldo, FL. My thinking that's where that got the idea for the Fl town.

I think the closest approximation today is probably “The Mandalorian.”

The closest thing to a spiritual successor in the last ten years is probably "Leverage," which is also about a team of outlaws getting justice for those in trouble. It's very different though - more white collar, men and women rather than just a guy show, and no military backstory. "Burn Notice" is another one in that vein. It has a lot of several eighties TV shows in its DNA, including "The A-Team," what with the burned government operative who now helps the little guy. And it has Bruce Campbell, who's the kind of guy who would have done very well on "The A-Team."

i always stil wonder one thing about murdoch, is he literally as insane and crazy as he is, or is it an act to fool people to let him be on the outside? or a little of both

Murdock has some issues that's clear, but most of his "craziness" is an act so he can stay at the VA psychiatric hospital. The treatment of mental illness was very different from 1982-1987, during the run of this series then today, but even I wonder did they go to the extremes this show purported, i.e. putting people in straight jackets, electric shock treatments, seems more like stuff from the 1950s then 80s. I didn't question it as a kid in the 80s, but when I rewatched the show in the late 90s as a young adult, the mental illness attitude of "lock up 'em in the nuthouse" seemed really dated.

@@John-ct9zs true. it does seem diffrent now than back than. i was 8-13 years old durin gthe seris run so i probably also didn't think much about it either. although dwight sure plays him great. and i had seen him as Barkely as wel in star trek TNG, there was a couple episodes where he was pretty much an odd ball, made me think he almost had some Murcdoch moments, moments only but still. but i sure loved how he totally got on BA Baraccuses nevers it was pretty funny
