Exactly. The ocean depth averages are 12,000 ft , with trenches deeper then 30,000 feet. In addition to all the water now existing in all the oceans, ocean volume would need to (approximately) double to get the water level high enough to rise 30,000 feet. That's enough water to make the oceans rise straight up 30, 000 feet. Additional water would be needed to cover all land mass up to 30,000 feet. Everest is 29,032 ft. So way more then double all current water on earth's surface .... is now in "the Pacific Ocean is really huge, it's huge"

That's why mysticism isn't a valid way of knowing. If you're willing to accept the premise the miracles and an omnipotent sky mind you can (as my favorite atheist Ay Rand used to say) pay it dueces wild. If sky mind can wink a Neptune 's worth of rain into the air ex nihilo why can't he/she/it send the evaporate back into whatever Lovecraftian space between the dimensions? Likewise how can someone who's been paralyzed from birth suddenly get up a d walk? Baby's have to learn. But hey, if you can fix the nerves why not throw in the software? It's not true that if God does not exist all things are permitted. That only happens when God exists who can do everthing.

One core element of critical thinking is Ocham's Razor. But here are two complicating factors. One, Lee's Elucidation: A finite number of words must be made to represent an infinite number of things and possibilities. Indeed, a finite number of words is being used to represent an infinite number of things and possibilities. Language Habits in Human Affairs, Irving J .Lee,1942. Two, the principle of language economy. We naturally like to speak in short sentences and leave to the listeners the task of filling in the blanks. Shorter sentences may be more memorable and persuasive.

Since the time of the early church, many theologians have recognized that Genesis presents a largely figurative depiction of creation. Augustine and Origen both understood, for instance, that the Bible did not describe literal twenty-four hour days. As Origen put it, “who would be so foolish as to believe that the days of creation are literal days when there is not even sun, moon, and stars until the fourth day”. They knew from reading the text itself with all of its figurative elements (does God have lungs?, Gen. 2:7) that we were not getting a literal description of how a God created the cosmos or human beings.

It very certainly did _not_ happen before Noah's flood that people lived well beyond 120 years. The field of paleopathology has researched this and the _median_ lifespan of a human 30,000 to 9000 years BC was around 30 to 35 years. It actually dropped after this period by a couple of years and did not start to rise until about 2000 BC. Median lifespan then rose very slowly to around 40 years in the early Christian period.

In 40 day will be 192’. Let’s double it to 384’. This will not be enough water to caver a small hill. In fact, the Hebrew phrase 'mabbul mayim' simply means a big, mighty flood. It is from the context of the story that we know this flood was suppposed to be world-wide, but of course the known world in those days was fairly limited, which is why the writers didn't even bother trying to explain how species from the Americas and Australia were supposedly rescued by an ark located in Mesopotamia.

The amazing trick of the Bible is how it intentionally casts a wide net of "predictions" with its ambiguity. So you can have two polar opposite events, both being consistent with the Bible. For instance, if all the world's population becomes Christian, that is consistent with the Bible. If all the world rejects Christianity, that is also consistent with the Bible. Firmament, or no firmament, the Bible is consistent with both models. The discontinued Law of Moses, or the persisting Law of Moses. Evolution or no evolution. A "generation" can span any amount of time. The Bible allows for both literal and metaphorical predictions to be equally valid. It's ridiculous.

The Pacific ocean is huge.... uh huh, and? A global flood would have to add water on top of the Pacific ocean. It doesn't matter how large or deep the Pacific is, it would need to be filled with water before the land was flooded. Putting aside for a moment how utterly infantile and irrelevant it is to even be discussing anything as ludicrous as the Noah’s Ark story, the caller’s claims are completely illogical! His initial ‘gotcha’ seems to be to point out how deep the floor of the Pacific Ocean is, and then claim that after the flood that’s where the water went. Umm… where was the water *during* the flood!? According to the fairy tale, it covered the entire surface of the earth, even the highest mountains. So the Pacific Ocean (along with everything else) would have been covered, with the mean sea level being about 30,000 feet higher than it is today. So, the question remains: where did the water go? In the 21st century (or in any of the last three centuries, frankly) anybody who believes that the flood story is true, or attempts to argue for its literal truth, need psychiatric help.
