Yahweh was a Canaanite storm god and El was the chief god in the pantheon. They were eventually blended together to form the biblical god. This is why there are references to “Elohim” in the OT.

I think there are parts of the bible that are historically true. However that does not mean the supernatural stories are true like a god creating in 6 days,a talking serpent in garden of eden,lots wife being turned to a pillar of salt etc. the bible had a few different authors as well.

From any forensic point of view the bible is mostly false. As a science textbook or chronicle of real history, it's a disaster. Though some of the morality is suspect, I still, several years after leaving the religion, believe that there are SOME useful, valid ethical teachings. Most are in the NT but a few are in the OT. The book overall has many severe problems, but it's not entirely bad either. For the OT stuff especially, it's clearly mythology, but as long as it's read as mythology it does convey some truths.

@nealjroberts4050 Good point. The ideas would be similar to the other religions or even some philosophical teachings. It's more the wording that would be specific to each. I'm thinking of verses like "clothe yourselves with compassion, humility, kindness, gentleness and patience", which I remember from the book of Colossians from back in the day when I was a believer. This sentiment is not specific to any one tradition, but even now I think it's ethically sound.
