What is the absolute rubbish. Nufc lost their sporting director because Man U illegally tapped him up. The completely broken psr rules meant that Newcastle a team with zero debt had to sell young talented players whilst Man U a team with hundreds of millions of debt didn’t. Selling those players went to the wire as the necessity to sell was ‘leaked’ to the press making their negotiating position impossible. As for the sudden concern about ‘player welfare’ amazing how this is suddenly my an issue. Newcastle auctioned a player and sold him to his preferred club for less than was offered elsewhere. Dont remember this concern being levied at Chelsea who invented this awful system of selling homegrown talent. Disgraceful narrative driven hatchet job. Unsubscribed.

I think nufc were relying on better European performance, European qualification, almiron moving in Jan and Wilson and trippier leaving at the start of the summer window. Almiron said no to Saudi in Jan and the Saudi window hadn't opened by psr deadline. Shame minteh had to go, would have liked to see him in a toon shirt. Anderson leaving isn't the end of the world, good luck to him. Psr is a joke. Clubs without debt forced to sell prospects and key players. Villa heading into champions league having to sell. All the teams with psr issues are not in financial trouble, they're teams where owners are pushing for success that doesn't suit the likes of manure, Liverpool, arsenal and Tottenham. Psr should account for debt not just profit and loss. Manures debt is probably in the region of 3x what pif bought Newcastle for

I think you’re right. An easier group (so a few more wins) and qualifying for the knockout stages would have netted an extra £25-30M. Without the the crippling injury crisis they might have finished a few places higher in the league and had longer cup runs which would have been another £5-10M. They still would have been short but only by maybe £10-15M. PSR was brought in to prevent another Portsmouth and in that respect I agree with it. It shouldn’t prevent an owner who can afford it from investing in their team though and it’s also had the effect of stifling competition and protecting the status quo. Even though I believe owners should be allowed to invest in their team I don’t want unrestricted spending as it’ll mean the Saudis spending silly and offering ridiculous fees and wages like they are in the Saudi league as that just isn’t good for football. I like the new spending cap (5 times the limit of the bottom teams TV rights), let owners top up revenue up until that cap then every side in the league (subject to rich owners) are on an equal footing. There would be a risk that dodgy owners could invest in a club for a few years, ramp up the clubs wage bill on expensive signings, get bored and then walk away. However, they could introduce rules that state if an owner wants to spend more than the clubs revenue they must place the entire transfer cost include agent fees, signing on bonus and the full wages for the entire players contract in an independent holding account which must be used to pay for the player. Then the worst situation for the club is they can’t afford to offer the player a new contract and the player leaves on a free.

Change the rules so that to register a player the buying club have to provide full breakdown of the costs of a transfer. David isn't quite correct in saying that in any other industry a deal would be made to let an individual go. In the UK if an executive resigns to join a rival, usually they'll serve their gardening leave either until a) their full time replacement is found or b) the period of notice expires. It's not uncommon for exec level staff to have 12-24 month notice periods. It's also not uncommon to have restrictions on movement (say your new office, or in the vicinity of it) and restriction on who you can talk to (new employer, and their staff, your existing clients etc) to whilst on gardening leave. What is unusual in football is the concept of a financial buyout for someone in this position. Ashworth signed his contract knowing he had a 24 month notice period, and an £20m buyout. Ratcliffe appointed him knowing the same. Ashworth didn't have to leave, and Ratcliffe didn't have to appoint him to the role. Newcastle tried but didn't appoint a replacement. Ratcliffe publicly complaining about the situation only played into Newcastle's resolve, never mind Ashworth's behaviour before resignation and after being put on gardening leave. Ratcliffe publicly claimed how unusual the situation is, however when he has appointed senior staff to work under him at Ineos, the process in the first paragraph has been followed. Why the media parrot his line is either a) naïve journalism, or b) purposely furthering Man Utd's agenda. If you want to see things done professionally and properly, compare how Man Utd / Ratcliffe have behaved in the past four months, and how Newcastle behaved when appointing Ashworth from Brighton. Ashworth's challenge at Man Utd will now be being able to live up to the 'world class' hype that Ratcliffe has built him up to be. He certainly did not behave or perform in a world class manner at NUFC, but given the low bar Man Utd have had prior to his arrival, I guess anyone competent will appear to be a top table appointment.

Minteh surely would have been in contention for a starting place in the team, particularly in his position on the right of a front three, so I think the idea he would have been in the development squad is questionable at best. It's a shame he had to be sold and we couldn't get other players out the door (e.g. Almiron, Wilson) beforehand. Anderson leaving is a shame as a Geordie lad, but £35m is a lot of money for him and another injury-plagued season aside, we have more cover in the areas he plays in.

PSR is not fit for purpose - scrap it. If it doesn't happen get the lawyers in. Football is a business and investment is up to the owner not a Cartel. UK business law trumps any EPL rules.

An important factor these guys 'forgot' to mention is that the Guimarães release clause expired a mere 6 days before the PSR deadline. If this clause was triggered it would have generated £60M - £67M profit. As it happened any deals done after June 25 were always going to appear to be a bit chaotic.

Nice anti Newcastle podcast. Talking about player welfare and forcing Minteh out - players have had the choice to move or play in the development squad/reserves for years. 1 min in and Ayo saying £60m for Isak - come on man, we paid £63m and he's set the PL on fire, he's worth £100m+ at least!

Not quite. The rules were changed when the Newcastle takeover went through to restrict sponsorship revenue. This is was a deliberate act to prevent cooperation. Also - it was perfectly fine for the club to be ran into the ground with no investment for 15 years 🥴

Scares me the idea that the 100m sell on clause on Bruno G was actually what the executives wanted
@paulos9900
@paulos9900 2 күн бұрын
If he didn't have the clause a club could have bid say £80 million and unsettled him. With a £100 million clause there is an agreement in place meaning that any bid under that can be rejected without fear of the player being unsettled. If Villa didn't have the release clause in Grealish's contract, I doubt they would have got £100 million for him but they'd probably still have to let him go if it was a club he was interested in joining.

They’ve said since the start that they will need to sell important players for big profit to recycle into player purchases. How else can you expect Newcastle with a £300-350M revenue to earn enough to compete with teams earning £500M and above. The plan has always been to buy players like Bruno sell them for 2-3 times their purchase price and then buy another 2-3 players of Bruno’s quality. That’s the only way Newcastle will be able to build to become a top side under the current financial limits.

I never doubt anything you've stated,i its nothing but the obvious. It concerns me the idea that its used to justify but the fact it didnt happen and still meeting PSR and also because there could be other better ways to resolve it especially given Bruno G’s importance but also particularly the manner and situation the club got themselves to in selling in position of weakness does noy convince me the club is run at its best
@yds1133
@yds1133 2 күн бұрын
My scared comment was focus on how Bruno G was going to be the lazy way to resolve the incompetencies in how the executives managed their financial situation rather than better planning. And once the deadline passed, it only kicked into action the things they coould have done earlier because their most easiest route did not happen
@yds1133
@yds1133 2 күн бұрын
And also my scared comment was because it could have been Bruno G out, and we keep Anderson and Minteh never knowing there was another alternative and we justify thats the best way because they've just stated the obvious. I rate Minteh potential very highly but Bruno G is the talisman

They risked spending more in the hope they’d do better in Europe, have better cup runs and finish higher up the table. They could have easily made up £50M if they got to the knockout stages of CL, top 4 in the prem and some luck in the cups. It was a gamble and it backfired but they have to take chances or they’ll never catch up “big 6”
@CGCentralHD

@andrewcharlton6080 no they wouldn't have barely got anything the payouts for CL are skewered by history finished the same as us (and performed arguably much worse) and got WAY more money because of something they did over a decade ago...
