This will only increase the likelihood of a Super League. Billionaire businessmen don't like the restrictions of trade which essentially is what FFP is, they want to exist in an open marketplace. The PL can eject City from their competition if found guilty, that is their right, but what they can't do is force City to play in the EFL even if they're accepted. City could simply walk away, which will only increase the likelihood of that European Super League that the American owners in particular were so desperate for. Be careful what you wish for Premier League because this could ultimately ruin your competition in its current form.

@johnevans50642 жыл бұрын
Leeds spent money they didn't have which was the root of their troubles. There are certain club owners that take billions out of the club whilst allowing the infrastructure of the club to rot and saddling them with a debt close to 600 million. That's all ok but City have an owner who has invested billions in the infrastructure of both the club and local area and castigated for it. But hey, that's how FFP works "for the good of football".

For the ones saying "They shouldn't do X, Y and/or Z because that would be punishing the innocent fans", it's not the prem who'd be punishing the fans, it would be the city owners not giving a damn about rules and anyone else whilst cheating n therefore, it's the owners who dropped the punishment on the fans!! Personally, if I was a City fan, the minute the club is found guilty,I'd be organising a protest against the owners to drive them out of the club. Question nobody seems to ask: Why has it taken 14 years for the Premier League to get to this point? Surely if FFP audits do what they should be doing the PL would have seen accounting discrepancies, missing documents, and inflated sponsorships in 08/09, and every season after... Instead, they start an investigation in 2019 leaving City to seemingly do what they want for 10 years? Who is responsible for these FFP audits? City breaching Financial Fairplay is ridiculous to me. Financial fairplay was put into place to keep clubs from overspending and going backrupt - which should be for clubs like Barcelona or Madrid who have a billion in debts and are still overspending. City is in no position to ever go bankrupt with their financial backing. I wished they would sue on a European level cause Financial Fairplay would never stand a chance in court. The sheer arrogance they've shown is astounding. They've flouted the rules while flaunting the fact that's what they've been doing and just expected to get away with it. Look to Serie A for a precedent of judgement: -15pts for Juve for similar. That should be the minimum punishment but City's offenses are egregious and longstanding - more harsh measures should be taken. Having said all that, FFP rules are bullshit. If a club has the money and isn't loading a club with debt, they should be allowed to spend it. As long as they aren't endangering the Club's future, it should be allowed. I still think City *should* get the no lube treatment because they've been sticking two middle-fingers up to every other club in the division that has abided by the rules. Now, if the PL could also introduce some anti-doping protocols that aren't laughably easy to subvert, we might actually have a fair competition again.

So basically they are going to have to investigate every single club of the big 6. You can't just single out the most succesful story. Look at how LFC, Spurs (new stadium), ManUtd, Chelsea etc have heaved throughout the past decade financially. None of them were 'financially responsible' or holding back with throwing cash in any direction to achieve more success. The difference is that only LFC turned some of that money into a few titles, and none of the others have. So therefor I truely believe that it's all a matter of bringing down the highest tree(s) to send a message to the rest of them. Nobody really believes the FA will investigate all of the big 6 clubs because that would take 15 years or longer to do... so yeah... chop down ManCity and see how the others react is basically the idea... Also... why do none of the other FA's investigate their clubs? Barça's been a pile of shit financially for years... Real has had a rough period during the Perez era as well... Atletico has been spending bigger too some years,... Valencia is also a suspicious story... What about PSG and the other 'big' clubs in France who tried to close the gap with PSG? I mean... if anything, football today is ruled by big money and NONE of the clubs who are spending cash have ever been under a magnifying glass.

The last category should only be only a fining offence following the CAS fine. Maybe the Premier League think that they know better. 90% of people commenting on this matter have made up their minds and they will not be persuaded that we have to wait for the tribunal before judgement. The Premier League rule that they can go back as far as they want runs contrary to ordinary civil legal proceedings in which the limit is 6 years. Is that fair? Or is it disadvantageous to those who are ensnared? I don't agree with Matt's take on this one about when proceedings are allowed to commence..

Not providing accurate information. Don't collaborate. Not being transparent. Okay. ManCity may be guilty of not cooperating with justice. But did they commit the crime or not? Not collaborating with justice may make me a suspect but it doesn't make me guilty.. I think the Premier League's investigation is very poor and insufficient.

First of all this will drag out in litigation no doubt. Secondly, they won't be relegated no matter how much we'd all take great pleasure lol I think a fine which is a drop on a bucket will be handed down, probably some sort of point deduction, then either a full on transfer ban or restrictions for a specific period of time. I think everyone forgets. City were not exonerated in the UEFA case. They appealed to CAS for the 2 year champions league ban given to them by UEFA stating the punishment reflects a time period that city could not be punished for. And they won it. So UEFA could only punish city for the rules they broke during the previous 3 years and were fined £10m. They were still guilty so stop talking as if you won a court case. You didn’t and this time there is no time limit on charges. And PL teams agreed that no PL ruling can be taken to CAS. Every club signed up to it so don’t say the rules are wrong just because you have blatantly broken them. And the PL need to come out and answer som3 questions. Like if this has been going on since 2009, what the fcuk have you been doing?
