I know of an old friend that has a house cat, and got angry that the council where we live wanted cats to be inside, so started letting his cat out for ages, and it would only come back for some food or to sleep. This is the same person that overfished where I live, thinks net fishing is perfectly ok, and diced open a living cane toad in front of me while making jokes about how it was still alive with all of its guts and stuff hanging out. Then again, in the same place that I said, a lady let her dogs run around a zoned off wildlife area for a while, and while they were there, they killed my area's beloved wild emu, Eric, so it isn't just cats. I think it is all just people needing to do the right thing by not letting their cats outside (or in my opinion, don't get a cat), keep their dogs monitored or trained, and if there are feral cats, kill them.

@L59405 жыл бұрын
All snails generally serve a few simple purposes but it's mostly cleanup of organic material and preventing overgrowth of certain plants. Without those snails, Hawaii will still look the same but it will have lost a treasure of diversity that cannot be obtained for at least millions of years. The Rosary Wolf Snail will probably eventually eat itself into extinction on the island unless other exotic snails arrive on the island. The garden near my home is a safe-haven for snails and other species that depend on a diversity of food, the garden isn't mowed (which kills a lot of snails around the world), it's fully grown with plants and there's little human intervention besides cleanup of plants for the winter. I know snails are annoying but give nature a chance to diversify in your area and you'll usually have less of a problem with them since multiple species can compete.

The pet trade saved a few lizard species and insects. If only people would get passionate about snails, but with the captive numbers that low it may not work. This is sad.
@vbgvbg11335 жыл бұрын
Pet trade is good and bad. Orangutans are being threatened by it.
@L59405 жыл бұрын
Pet trade probably endangers and kills more species than you realise. Once people find something ''cute'' or ''cool'' they'll want to buy it as easy as possible in their own area. So smugglers take exotic animals from their lands and breed them cheaply just to give them to people with little experience on how to treat these animals. The pet either dies quickly or is set free into the wild because the owner feels sorry for it. The pet will reproduce and start hunting native species/eating native plants. These exotic pets will usually have no adapted predators for them so they can grow exponentionally and threaten many other species in the area. Just look at what happened in Florida. Humans probably shouldn't adopt pets beyond dogs,goldfish,small rodents and cats. Cats shouldn't be allowed outside (since they kill native birds) and rodents should also always be kept inside. Humans are greedy and want to own animals which belong in the wild, this is not how nature is supposed to be, If you cannot take care of an animal, do not adopt.

We deserve to die... because we killed things? Killing is part of living... because of that you have to live and improve. We don't deserve to die... especially considering we could down the line bring these species back with new science. We could save the planet from the inevitable death it currently has coming via the sun, or asteroids, or anything. We deserve to live, because their future is our future. We share this world and need to answer for our mistakes. As every creature does.
@samanthacallaway22765 жыл бұрын
Dragoonsoul7878 I think what they mean is not so much because we kill things, it’s because we cause whole species to collapse and go extinct because we don’t care about them. Or better yet we kill them because they eat our flowers, our livestock, our crops. Instead of understanding how fundamental they are to our environment or simply not caring, we choose to eradicate them without batting an eye. We overfish because fish taste good, we over develop because everybody wants a nice house and a shopping mall, we tear down forests of endangered flora for wood and crops- all without caring. We are making changes yes, but not quickly enough or with enough care to really feel good about it. We elect people who don’t care either. Yeah we can bring these species back to life, we can do that with a lot of species. The issue is this though, they went extinct because we destroyed their environment. Until we fix the path we are going down and save the planet from the human race (not an asteroid) there will be no place for these Lazarus species. And eventually no place for us. Unless we accept what we have done and are doing, things will continue to get worse.
