@@CharisSellick - Kawaii Metal is a genre that Babymetal invented. They named it because people asked them in interviews 'what genre of music are you?'. They are Kawaii Metal it wouldn't exist without them. There is nobody else who does all the things that they do at any sort of close level. They invented and dominate the genre. That being said Poppy has some songs that you could describe as 'Kawaii Metal'. 'Scary Mask' for example. The second best actual Kawaii Metal group is 'LADYBABY' which is a straight imitation of BABYMETAL. Even the name is very similar. But that is ok because it wasn't meant to be a serious group. Their first song was a commercial but it actually turned out really good and they turned into an actual group for a while. They're disbanded now. LADYBABY was fronted by a cross dressing Australian wrestler with two cute Japanese girls. It's just as silly as it sounds but also pretty good. Their first song that got all the attention was 'Nippon Manju'. It's clearly based on Gimme Chocolate or Doki Doki Morning by Babymetal.

[Parappappappaa rappappappaa rappappappaapaa papapapaa. Pappappaa pappappaa pappappaapaa papapapaa.] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ As for Kawaii Metal, they invented it. The band was formed in 2010 when the producer Kobametal created the heavy metal music club, as a sub unit of the idol group Sakura Gakuin. He selected Su-metal for her voice and stage presence, and Yuimetal and Moametal for their cuteness, simmilar looks (to look like twins on stage) and compatible voices. His idea as a metalhead and music lover in general, was to create something new to move the genre he loves so much forward. You should check more of their songs, if you liked Gimme Choko, perhaps you should try their song Awadama Fever, from the same composer. Or if you want a song that is a symbol of the band, try Megitsune. But, If you want to see a more metal/epic side, perhaps you should try Headbanger, Ijime Dame Zettai, or Road of Resistance, or even something newer, like Syncopation, Distortion and Tales of the Destinies. They have three albums released, the most recent one from 2019, and each of their songs is different from the other, all great songs. Also, try to go for their live performances, as they are really good at it.

Nice first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Galaxy. Yes these are the original trio, no you won't find another band quite like them (some have tried to do something similar but none has matched them - not even close). BABYMETAL is a unique band - they fused Jpop with metal and invented their own new genre and they now blend in so many other styles with the metal. They are so worth exploring further. At this show Su-metal the lead singer was 16 (her birthday was the day before), Yuimetal and Moametal (the two younger girls) were both 14. Su is incredibly talented and versatile vocalist and front person. Yui's and Moa's main roles are described as "scream & dance", but what that actually means is backing vocals, harmonies and, most importantly, they are in charge of getting the crowd involved. Their choreo serves two purposes, it helps to interpret the song for those of us who don't speak Japanese and, its main purpose, they lead the crowd - at certain points in a song the crowd will want to jump, pump their fists or whatever - Yui and Moa lead them and let them know yes, jump now, shout now, join in and become part of the whole performance. BABYMETAL first formed in 2010 as a sub-unit of a Jpop Idol group called Sakura Gakuin. Su was 12, Yui and Moa were 11 and the only shows they played were Sakura Gakuins own shows and Idol festivals and in those all the girls in the various groups would do their song and dance routines to a backing track. BABYMETAL separated from Sakura Gakuin in 2013 when Su was 15 (the group had a school theme and was for girls aged 10 to 15, so it was time for Su to graduate). As the whole idea for BABYMETAL had been formed and developed around Su and her vocal talents their producer persuaded their agency Amuse that BABYMETAL should continue as an independent band in their own right serving as Su's vehicle. Sadly Yui left the band in October 2018 for undisclosed health reasons - she last appeared in October 2017 and they held her place for her return, but she decided her recovery was taking too long and chose to go her own way. Since 2019 Su and Moa have been supported by any one of three girls (Kano, Riho and Momoko) dancing - but not singing - in the third spot. If you really want music to wake up and start the day to go back to their very first song - try the official video for 'Doki Doki Morning' to see just how tiny they were when they started (actually the song was recorded in 2010 but the video was made nearly a year later when Su was 13, Yui and Moa were not long past their 12th birthdays). There is a lot more after that - 3 studio albums (several live albums and performance DVDs) and about 50 songs - every one of them different to the last.

The deeper meaning of the song is about teenage girls who are worried about their weight and the peer pressure being 'fat' brings with it. The girl wants chocolate but worries about her weight. So a little deeper than most people think at first listen. Peace.

@@Daniel_Colavecchio As far as I know, we don't know if it's about peer pressure, etc. It could just be health. The most extreme interpretation I've seen is that supposedly 'gimme choco' was what the underfed Japanese children said to US soldiers during WWII.

@@autohmae I agree to disagree, but then everyone has a right to their own opinion. The author admits it about a teenage girls fear of putting on weight by eating too much chocolate. I agree the WWII interpretation is even a little deep for me. Peace

⚡ 💀 💕 / 🍫 💝️ This footage is from 'Legend 1997', from December 21st, 2013, celebrating the 16th birthday of the lead singer, Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto, or Su.). The BABYMETAL members are very aware that their initial impression is often "WTF?". They compare that to what they first thought when they were introduced to Metal music. This whole concept of combining JPop/Idol music with Metal could have been a disaster, but the quality of the singing, songwriting, choreography and staging take it to another level. 'Gimme Chocolate!!' is definitely one of their "poppier" tracks. They still play it live at most concerts, and it's about 10x heavier. They have been joined on stage for this song by members of Korn, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and DragonForce. Obviously not all at the same time. : ) Hope you check out more BABYMETAL. Each song is very different from the one before. That's not Jesus in the background BTW, since he's neither Asian, or a woman. There is a reference to a "Holy Mother" in the opening narration. Mosh'sh pit is short for Moshoushou. Which means a safe, yet enjoyable, mosh. Check out the live version of 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' at Sonisphere 2014 for an example.

@@richdandanell2911 I think it's a mistake to believe that the BABYMETAL lore is referencing only one thing at a time, rather than a bunch of things, from many different sources. @@rickwagner- They are not taking any of their lore seriously . The fox god , Su Metal being crucified to symbolize her ascension from young girl into metal goddess , the chosen seven the metal galaxy and any christian and religious iconography . Are all just used for it's shock value and to add to the mystique of BABYMETAL and their made up lore . The way most metal bands do . You are reading to much into it , because of you basis toward the christian lore you're assuming they also believe it . But it's just part of the show . During the show when Su is being crucified the statute falls apart into a broken pile of stone while the audience chants Death , Death, Death ........ Nothing to do with the christian mythology .

@@richdandanell2911 "because of you basis toward the christian lore" I think you meant to write "bias", but no, I'm just pointing out that the lore pulls from many different sources. Christianity is one of the least important in the BABYMETAL world, but it's dumb to pretend it doesn't exist. Star Wars and Seikima-II are much more important to Koba. Of course the lore is used to help create a mytique around BABYMETAL and to create an immersive atmosphere during their concerts. Nothing I've said contradicts that.

They are talking about wanting chocolate, but worrying a bit about what it will do to their weight. Gimme Chocolate is probably the most unironically j-pop of BM's songs. It's not really a fan favourite because it doesn't have the Kami Band or show off Su's singing voice that well. FYI the lead singer, Su-metal, is also a theater kid and has sung and acted in musicals and Babymetal are a very theatrical band. Babymetal is the brain child of the music producer Kei Kobayashi and he and the girls all work for the Amuse talent agency. The band is a spin off from another 10 person idol group called Sakura Gakuin (Cherry Blossom Academy in English) which was also created by Amuse with a school theme. The "school" released music all together, but also as clubs or "sub-units" and one of those was the Heavy Metal Club which became Babymetal and was spun off in 2013. If you want a complete 180 and some whiplash react to "Babymetal - DEATH Legend 1997".

@@autohmae Have you watched Prof. AJ Hartley's analysis of Gimme Chocolate? He explained it thoroughly in that video. Especially with all that intense dancing routines and expected world-class metabolism, Moa and Yui can likely eat a cow and still be as petite as ever. 😀

The young ladies in Baby Metal sing and dance their entire concert. Its really quite amazing the stamina they must have. My understanding is this song is about the dilemma girls face unfortunately. Wanting sweets, chocolate, but worrying how it would effect their body, complexion because of the societal unfair demands of "skinny cute girls". The times I've seen lyric translations for their music it seems that some of their songs are about the struggles of being a girl/woman, or about female empowerment. I'm no expert on Babymetal, but I do like to rock out to them now and then. and I would think being able to attend one of their concerts in Japan would be such an amazing experience.

Believe it or not, this is a protest song of sorts. There are two themes through the song, the power imbalance in Japanese Valentine's Day traditions and body and weight shaming. On Valentine's Day Japanese women are expected to gift chocolate to all males in their circle, family members, friends, co-workers and the like. This is called Giri Choco (obligation chocolates) and the title of the song, Gimme Chocolate, is a play on words. About a month after Valentines Day where men give chocolates to only girls they have romantic interests in. This is called White Day and this is called Honmei Chocco (true feeling chocolates). The girls are pointing out the unfairness of women being obligated to all men where men only gift to those they have romantic feelings for. In the Japanese script of the lyrics the girls from Babymetal switch the words 'wait' and 'weight' to highlight the body shaming that goes along with wanting to eat chocolate (and by extension, sweet food in general) So despite the appearance of three cute girls making cute sounds on stage and dancing around, the dance and lyrics are carefully thought out to give a bit of a slap to the patriarchy in Japan and fat shaming in general. Babymetal have hidden the message in the song because it would be viewed in Japan that open criticism would be extremely impolite and a major social no no. Babymetal base many of their songs of empowerment and support for girls and women. This can be seen in songs like Road of Resistance. Anyway, I have gone on too long, I hope I have brought some light to some of the questions you asked during your reaction. Keep up the good work.

Well, if you eat chocolate, you pay the price and you have to be careful to not get fat. The band after they got rid of the posers was amazing. I am ancient and Amuse Inc owns them, and they do two or three huge shows for video release and tour as opening acts or in small venues with minimal stage setups. They are amazing to see with Suzuka Nakamoto as "Su-metal" and Moa Kikuchi as "Moametal" saddened over Yui Mizuno as "Yuimetal" no longer active and missed. The result of a show called Sakura Gakuin, there are two other groups associated with them, One OK Rock and Perfume. Some of their songs are much more adult than you might expect from the ages of the girls performing them. Most amazing and Su Metal is a 110% star with Moa Metal sharing that ability.

I don't know everything about the background, but I believe the band was created by one of many Japanese corporations that set up bands regularly, and the fellow who set it up specifically wanted to experiment with the dichotomy of kawaii and speed metal. The girls all went to the same school, which I believe combines normal education with song/dance to train girls for a life in the industry. I think all three were very close in the school and I don't know how much the partnership was influenced by Su, who is the eldest of the three. I know she and Moa have always been very close (see the video with Moa's speech during Su's graduation for a real tearjerker.) I've always been impressed at how fierce and professional these girls have been from a very young age (Su was 12 when the band started, the other two were 11.)

Wanted to put this off, but I guess it's time for me to comment for the obligatory (and I'm sure ENORMOUS) algorithm bump. What did you call the guitarist again? I'm going to go out on a limb and say, as I'm sure many others have said but I'm too lazy to read... they were eating air chocolate. Also bless you.

Ok. The obligatory first reaction to BabyMetal “Gimme Chocolate” is out of the way. You should react to other BabyMetal videos to get a better sense of what BabyMetal is. I’d recommended… - Head Banger at the Legend of 1997 concert - Road to Resistance - BxMxC - Rondo of Nightmare w/ Kami Band intro - Sis Anger by Black BabyMetal - Akatsuki …. There 2 versions, highly recommend both - No Rain No Rainbow To be honest, there is no bad BabyMetal song. People have their favorites. No two BabyMetal songs are the same. They are a fusion of Jpop/Metal mix but add different genres of music per song. From black metal, metal core, EDM, power metal, salsa 😝, etc. When you think you found your favorite BabyMetal song, the next becomes your favorite. Lastly, their live performances are far better than their music videos.

Great Reaction please do more. The statue is explained in an interview with Koba-metal the manager of Babymetal. "Band manager Kobametal, meanwhile, is a lifelong fan[of Metallica]. For Babymetal’s ‘Legend 1997’ concert at Makuhari Messe in Chiba later that year, he even oversaw the creation of a large statue of a woman who loomed over the band and collapsed, like Metallica’s iconic Lady Justice one. It’s a level of fandom that has allowed Babymetal to connect with fans of heavy music more easily. He remembers seeing the band [Metallica] at the legendary, 50,000-capacity Tokyo Dome in 1991, after they released The Black Album. It affected him the same way as it did Su-metal, altering his life forever, and ultimately leading him down the path he’s treading today. “The [Black] album brought a new perspective to the metal scene,” he explains. “They [Metallica] had a profound influence, and their sound was just so natural that I instantly became addicted to their music.”

Looking for a great live video ( it isn’t live audio but the video is from a show) look up their video for papaya. Also I’ve seen them live and they have shamed everyone I have ever seen in terms of energy on stage. Every song it seemed they were doing costume changes, the dance choreography he singing, the band is awesome. These are some of the hardest working girls in the industry.

Fun Facts about this song and the group: 1. Named one of the most important metal songs of the last 10 years. 2. Performed this song with the Red Hot Chili Peppers 3. A member of Korn joined them in performing this song 4. They performed this song with Dragon Force 5. Performed this song on the Stephen Colbert show 6. Sang the famous Judas Priest songs Pain Killer and Breaking The Law with Rob Halford of Judas Priest. Next I would suggest Legend of 1997 Head Banger Black Pink and BABYMETAL are the only albums by girl groups in history to enter the Top 10 of Billboard’s World Albums Year End Chart!

You NEED to check out Lady Baby. Sort of a similar vibe to Baby Metal but two of the members are Japanese women and one is an Australian Male professional wrestler (at least that was the original line up). I don't really want to say any more as it's 100% something that you'll want to react to for the first time in the vid that you'll hopefully make. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2mQp52bYsekb8U

The hand motions make the corners of a chocolate bar, first one pair of opposite corners, then the other. Since Su is holding a microphone with one hand she only makes the motions with her free hand which looks weirdly robotic in a fascinatingly kawaii way. Heavy Metal is known for its quasi-religious theatrics (Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, etc) so Babymetal has a kawaii and culturally Japanese mythology of its own based on the fox "god", a mischievous divine messenger and trickster much like the Norse Loki. Instead of the "horns of the devil"🤘they put the fingertips and thumb out to make the fox ears and pointy nose.🦊
