It should be one of those products that defines it’s time - like the NAD 3020, Pioneer A400 etc. I quite like the looks even though it seems very large and the case is a huge expanse of grey - it could have done with an old school block circuit diagram on the top like the Technics of old!

I have a Cyrus i9xr integrated amp which I find too harsh and bright when used with a Marantz TT 15 S1 turntable, Spendor A7 floorstanders and a D03X Luxman CD player (the most recent introduction). The Technics amp you're reviewing here can be had for less than £1900 currently, and with a trade-in of the Cyrus, I won't be looking at a lot of cash to swap. My question for you - should you choose to accept it - (and it does feel like mission impossible for me) is whether I'd regret buying the cheaper Technics with better components attached. Nevertheless it might be worth a temporary fix. Allied to this, a dealer recommended the £5K integrated hybrid amp from Mackintosh, a 252 model, I think. Do I have to spend that much to properly enjoy the components and speakers I want to keep, or would the Technics be good for me, at least short term, compared to the aforementioned Cyrus amp?

Hi Paul. Seems a good all round performer , as others have mentioned it does look visually unbalanced but looks are secondary to performance. The other beef I have with many of these none budget amps is the inclusion of a phone stage , surely someone at this price point will use an equally priced deck with a separate phono amp yet we’re having to pay for their inclusion. As you also rightly stated there should have been more RCA outlets so that we who have say two record decks and a peace’s of retro equipment can use them. Best wishes and kind regards. 😀👍👍👍

Some maybe better than others with certain tracks. In a second System i prefer a pioneer streamer, outboard dac into a vintage Yamaha pre amp c-50 into a linn lk280 power amp. It’s a nice balance. I’ve yet to own a proper valve amp but that’s another ball game altogether. All the amplifiers I’ve had in only about 3-4 of them sounded absolute garbage. Still many, many great sounding amplifiers out there new and old. I respect the hifi gear folks own as it’s yours and it’s your ears that have to be pleased and no one else’s.

I think it's a beautiful piece. Perhaps some of what you heard can be attributable to the Class D amp? Apparently well done, but all types of amps do have character. I have a CD player into my amp as well as the analog inputs from my DAC which is fed a steamer. So, not viable for me with on input, but if you like their DAC, not an issue. One analog input seem like a stroke of hubris. It's like the mystery as to why, except for it's entry integrated amplifier, that Dennon does not include pre or sub out on any of it's more expensive integrated amplifiers. Finally, Made in Malaysia. and for once not mad in China. Manufacturers take note. You can lower cost and make things in a country other than one with serious human rights issues that is striving for world domination.

@@TheAudiophileMan Technics, whose technical support staff apparently cannot be reached by phone but only by email, has not responded to my inquiry. Disappointing. Since my original comment, the problem with shutoffs expanded. I could not keep it on more than an hour. I worked with Crutchfield, from which I purchased the unit, to see if there was a problem with attached gear. Crutchfield was understandably suspicious that there might be a problem with the Technics, given that the same faults showed up in two different machines. Gotta be a user issue, right? They had me stick a multimeter on my Heco Aurora 700 speakers to check ohms reading, both at the binding post and with cables attached. No problem there. Just in case, I swapped speakers to a pair of JBL 530s and still got the shutoffs. I swapped out speaker cables and interconnects. The Technics shutoffs continued. During this period the Technics remote control also became unresponsive, which rendered the unit even less operable. I have now shipped the SU-G700M2 back to Crutchfield for a refund. Such a bummer -- I enjoyed the sound when it was on, and am now back to square one in my process of a choosing a new integrated.
