Discover how The Autism Helper vlogger Michelle sets up independent task boxes using district-provided materials WITHOUT spending much of her own hard-earned money. She shares how she asked for specific resources from her administrator and how she uses district funds to invest in specific materials for her special education classroom.
We know that teachers are often forced to spend their own money to stock their resources and the school budget only covers certain items. She explains what kind of bargain resources she's bought from Dollar Tree or Target. Every district is different! What does your school provide, and what do you have to provide to make your classroom functional?

What size shoe storage containers do you use? I see 6 quart containers on Amazon.

What do you do with students that put everything in their mouth? These are definitely great ideas for kids that are safe with their independence, but I just wonder what other options might there be for students to have that same level of independence without the worry of them potentially swallowing things.

Great question! I always have a staff monitoring - especially for students who like to put things in their mouths. Additionally, I make sure to include visuals to remind students that we don’t put items in our mouth. I also provide the student with chewlery so that they already have something in their mouth and it helps the urge. Finally, I make sure to give tasks that are safe for students with this need so that there is never a risk for swallowing or choking. Hope this helps! amzn.to/3B9tcjc
