Thanks for visiting, I'm glad you had an amazing time. Little known fact is Buffalo is one of the only cities in the states that prefers Tim Hortons. We love our Canadian brothers and sisters, as long as you're not French ;) Jokes aside I feel Buffalo and Toronto are great places to see where our two countries link together, the culture is not different whatsoever, yet our countries are. It was funny growing up and telling people "Yeah I'm from New York, not Canada" and they would be very shocked by our accent, especially when its mentioned that we're 7 hours from NYC and 20 minutes from Canada.
@TheAverageTourist Жыл бұрын
I've never thought about that before re: being closer to Toronto thank NYC and how that could have an impact on the city experience. I saw a lot of Tim Hortons in the area and it's funny because here people either love Tim Hortons or hate it. It was a great city to visit.

Where’s all the people? That’s what people would ask if you are not from here. Downtown Buffalo is busy during business hours Monday through Friday so weekends you will feel like it’s empty because it is. But if you go about 10 to 15 minutes in any direction that’s where you’ll find people, lots of people . Suburbs are larger than city of Buffalo. People drive to work in downtown. Buffalo is changing in good ways , welcome to Buffalo 😊

Buffalo local here. You did a great job hitting all the major spots in 2 days, but you missed one of our biggest attractions. The Anchor Bar - The original creators of the chicken wing, still in business. If you come back, you should come for the National Buffalo Wing Festival or for our St. Patty's Day Parade which is massive because of our huge Irish population. And you gotta see a Bills game next time. You will not see a city more passionate about their football team. The Sabres fan base is nothing in comparison to Bills Mafia.

We would love to go back!!
@bunterhunterBUFF Жыл бұрын
"Where are all the people?" you ask... lol. Good Question. I'll answer you... In the suburbs. (you probably saw them at the mall) The first thing to say is, it looks like you came when it was still cold out... People come out much more once it's warm. Buffalo is much more fun in the summer! But secondly, Buffalo is the red-headed poster child for the toxic obsession America had post-WW2 with the American dream of moving to a white picket fence house in the suburbs. In 1900, BUffalo's population was 353,000 people, making us the 8th largest city in the United States... Buffalo continued to grow over the years, and from about 1930-1950, the city of Buffalo's population peaked at about 570,000-580,000 people. Still, a top 15 city that was growing every year... Then... America went suburban. Buffalo's population declined for the next 70 years straight. These people weren't leaving the area, they were just leaving the city for the burbs. If you could afford it, you bought a nice new house with a large yard just a short drive out of the city. This slowly left the city's poorest residents alone to fund and take care of the housing stock, infrastructure, businesses, etc, which of course decayed quickly over time. Poverty and blight brought crime and continued to drive out the city's working professionals. Over the next 50 years, the city's population dropped by over 50% to about 260,000 people in total, and down out of the top 70 most populated cities in America. As is a common reinforcing cycle, with the redistribution of wealth, all of the shopping, the grocery stores, the retail, the businesses all followed the money to the suburbs, leaving Buffalo to rot, with food deserts across vast and sparsely populated neighborhoods... The city further carved up neighborhoods with expressways and highways, separating any connectivity between them, and breaking up parks and parkways in favor of faster travel for the middle-class suburbanites when they decided to venture into the city proper from time to time. This was the lowest point in Buffalo's long and storied history. Recently, in the past decade, the population has seemed to stabilize, and even show a tiny bit of growth. People seem to be slowly moving back into the city, and in some neighborhoods shopping, and food especially are coming back and showing some slow growth... Currently, this growth seems to be isolated to a few of the trendy walkable neighborhoods on the west side and north side of Buffalo, and downtown, which is an encouraging sign... But of course, Buffalo still continues to make poor decisions like building a new multi-billion dollar football stadium out in the suburbs, and there is no sign of any new public infrastructure like new subway lines, public transportation to national points of interest like Niagara Falls, or any signs of high-speed rail across the state to have better connections to our other major cities in the state. However, Buffalo is a city of eternal optimism, having been disappointed throughout it's history (think 4 blown super bowls in a row, no goal, etc.) its people are tough, and we are enjoying the small successes we've been seeing over the past two decades with remote work and new jobs making Buffalo an attractive place to live because of it's low cost and high standard of living. If we could just figure a few things out as a city and state government, and bring back retail and grocers to the city, and attract new people back to the urban areas as an affordable, safe, walkable, and enjoyable place to live... enjoying summers full of free outdoor concerts, and outdoor activities, Buffalo just might recapture its former glory and once again become one of the jewel cities of this country! Thank you for reading my rant.

@TheAverageTourist8 ай бұрын
I'd say it's closer, but it depends on what you want to do. If you want to be closer to the falls, stay in Niagara Falls, Ontario on the Canadian side or on the NY side. Toronto is about a 2 hour drive depending on traffic. Buffalo is about 45 mins.

A lot is more affordable here … things like seeing movies & groceries are cheaper here for sure . Most of all, I love amvets which is a much muchhh better version of goodwill !! It’s a thrift store that doesn’t change prices depending on brand - all jeans are under 8 bucks usually and have sales and ticket color promos - and there’s no profit all proceeds are donated to the VA which I love … I have maintained a great stylish wardrobe from there ! I love Tim Hortons and could never go back to only having Dunkin or Starbucks again LOL plus there’s always a nice breeze coming off the water … not nearly as hot and humid and we take all the kids in our family and walk down to the water with my dog …. Richmond Ave is a beautifully populated lovely and lively area where there’s ton of people walking dogs and groups playing music or playing Hackeysack !! All the people are in the more residential type areas where there’s more grass and comfy coves and hideaways ❤❤❤

So that was an entire experience. And great tips on things to do in Buffalo. And I would’ve left the brewery that was rushing people out as well.

You may have to plan a trip then for future. It's a pretty nice city and lots to do. I think the summer months would be even better. Yeah I have no time for service like that - we will take our biz elsewhere to a more relaxed environment.

what a difference, between niagara falls ontario which is always busy and the other side Buffalo looks like ghost town
@tcbtcb Жыл бұрын
The NY side is actually a park and not an amusement park like the Canadian side has turned out to be.

Hang out at the Old Pink on Allen Street. That’s all you need.

I enjoyed your video. Are you both Canadian? I was born in Buffalo and grew up in Angola, NY. In your video it was unusual not seeing people around. I live in North Carolina and when ever the Sabres play the Hurricanes here they seem to loose. When I was young, we would often go to Crystal Beach amusement park in Canada during the summer. There was a restaurant near the park that had the best rice putting.

Thanks so much! Yes we are both Canadian and really enjoyed touring around Buffalo! We did see more people around the arena when the game was on and after at the waterfront. Coming from the Toronto area, it's odd to see the downtown so empty!

@@TheAverageTourist thank you for your reply. I have only been to Toronto once as a kid. You do an excellent job with your videos. Here where I live in North Carolina, there are over 200 breweries. I've been to several of them. Keep up the great content!

@roguewar88 sounds lined we need to plan a trip to North Carolina!! Do they have good campgrounds there? Maybe we can bring our trailer. Or just stay in a hotel!
@roguewar886 ай бұрын
@@TheAverageTourist Yes, there are campgrounds and RV parks. I have not used any of them. I just finished watching your videos of Niagara Falls.

Main Street in Buffalo is only business. You have to go to Elmwood, Allentown, and surrounding areas for all the nightlife, shopping, ect.
@teejay33955 Жыл бұрын
So when people go to the middle of Main Street, and say "wow where is everyone" it's because there are legit no food, shopping, nightlife on main street. Just peak around any block and you will see everything that you would think should be on Main Street lol
@TheAverageTourist Жыл бұрын
Yeah it was so weird to not have stuff on "main street" but it could have also been less busy because it was the Easter weekend.

Oh gosh, so apparently I'm going to be making comments for you.. Number one! Deep South Taco is hit or miss. I really really hope that you had good food when you were there because I've been there and it has been so so so disappointing but also very good so I hope that you had a good experience there and you're not just being kind. If you're going for tacos in Buffalo, Lloyd's is where to go.

FYI - the sculpture in the roundabout with your opening shop back to Niagara falls New York was made by the mayor when he was the mayor so he pretty much bought his own artwork to put into the city and spent millions of dollars of taxpayers money doing it and everyone was upset still kind of are.. 😢
