This just popped up on my "recommended videos" probably because of the massive blizzard that hit Western New York this Christmas holiday. I've been here in Scottsdale myself for just over 28 years and moved here from Buffalo. Went back to Buffalo in August of 2019, the first time in about 18 years. They have really done an amazing job turning the city and economy around in some areas. It still has some depressed areas, but they planned for the long term, knowing that you can't fix everything in 4 months. A couple of things, some of the boat tours down by the lake and Canal Side area, are the old grain elevators and General Mills. Yep, Cherrios and other cereals are made in Buffalo, and if you go down in that area, you can actually SMELL the Cherrios and other cereals being baked. It is similar to when you go to Hershey, Pennsylvania, and can smell the chocolate in the air. And what's so special about the old grain elevators? Buffalo had the nation's largest capacity for the storage of grain in over thirty concrete grain elevators located along the inner and outer harbors on the Buffalo River and Lake Erie. They also supplied ALL the grains provided to U.S., Canadian, British, and Australian military during both World War 1 and 2. Because of this, there was a massive presence of The National Guard by the grain elevators during the wars. Their sheer size is quite impressive, especially for the time in history that they were in use. One of the boat tours sails past them, and the size of them is astounding. Another thing of note is the ethnic festivals that are held. Italian, Irish, Polish, German Puerto Rican, and African American. There is also a sizable Ukrainian population there. And yes, the architecture there IS really beautiful in some areas. In Downtown Buffalo, you briefly showed some buildings, one of which is the Market Arcade, built in 1892. Do a Google image search, and you will see the interior, which is really beautiful. It is generally regarded as the forerunner of the contemporary suburban mall. You can see how NARROW the walking space in from the store fronts on the second and third floors and the wrought iron guard rails is. Americans have really gotten so much LARGER in the last 100 years.

I grew up in Western New York, about a 45 minute drive south of Buffalo, and I appreciate that you went into a deeper dive than just the wings (the Colored Musicians Museum being a great example of that), but you missed a few big things as well. So I want to include some of them here briefly: Both the Albright-Knox and Burchfield Penny Art Galleries house some fine examples of art. While the Albright-Knox is slightly more famous, the Burchfield Penny holds a lot of works by, perhaps, the best known water color and charcoal artist in American history, Charles Burchfield. You mentioned Lackawanna but didn't mention either the Basilica or the Botanical Gardens, both incredible places. Many people think that the renaissance to baseball specific downtown stadiums began with Oriole Park at Camden Yards. No, it was Pilot Field (now Sahlen Field) where the Buffalo Bisons (triple A affiliate of the Toronto Bluejays) plays. During Covid, the Bluejays played their homegames there. Speaking of sports, depending on the time of year one visits, they can take in a Bills game in nearby Orchard Park, a Bisons game, a Sabres game, a Bandits (National Lacrosse League), or some combination of those at a price under the national average. I'm glad you mentioned Letchworth State Park (I lived 16 miles from the Portageville entrance), but there's also Beaver Meadow (part of the National Audubon Society), and just a short drive from there is the only excursion railroad that has an operating steam locomotive in all of New York State, the Arcade & Attica RR. Both are absolutely worth seeing. And just as a point of clarification, Anchor Bar is not a local favorite (neither is Duffs). Those are the tourist trap wings places. However Gabriel's Gate has fantastic wings, but you'll hear locals also rate La Nova on Buffalo's west side, and Bar-Bill in nearby East Aurora as the best places. By the way, East Aurora is where Fisher-Price toys were headquarted, but also stopping by to shop at Vidler's .05 & .10 is a must. One last thing, ranch dressing is never paired with wings. Blue cheese is, but there are plenty of locals who will just eat them either with the traditional sauce or bbq as well. Otherwise, I'd say you hit most of what Buffalo and the surrounding area has to offer.

Very well done. It’s amazing how many of the places I went to as a teenager in the 80s are still featured in your video - Gabriel’s Gate, Mulligans, Mr Goodbar, Duffs. But lots of great new additions too. I would add two places - Old Fort Niagara, which dates to the French and Indian War, and the Roycroft in East Aurora, home of the Arts & Crafts style. Maybe the Fisher Price toy museum as well. And you didn’t mention the newly expanded Albright Knox Art Gallery. That is a must see.

Close : Elmwood Village is near Buff State … not U.B. U.B. is in North Buffalo ( University Heights District) & out in Amherst. My dear late Mom worked there. Ooooops haha hopefully no one @ Anchor Bar heard you say you’re boycotting the bleu cheese ! You get kicked out for that ! Lol jk. Glad you enjoyed. Great video. Another great video, I live a hour East and was surprised how many historical locations I have not been to in Buffalo. Definitely going check out he wings in at Gabrielles Gate, they looked delicious. One of my favorite places if you ever return you should is the Japanese Garden of Buffalo, located behind The Buffalo History Museum in the Olmsted Conservancy’s Delaware Park. Very beautiful grounds and they host the Cherry Blossom Festival the last weekend in April.

Your sense of travel time is WAY off. The airport is less than 30 minutes from downtown. You used photos that are literally over a decade out of date. You didn’t even mention any of the more prominent architects. All you did was touch briefly on the most played out aspects of the cultural richness of this city.
