I can't express how happy it makes me to hear that Adrien Brody is bringing his A game to a movie like this again. He has been a favorite of mine for ages but he really does have a way of choosing some stinkers (looking at you, Detachment). Can't wait to experience this one.

Detachment is a unique choice to mention as an Adrien Brody failure but I watched it and didn't like it much myself sadly.

Ive been a huge Adrien Brody fan for years and been thinking for a while now Guy Pearce should have some kind of huge comeback, reading the reviews of this movie praising both of these performances makes me feel like a kid on Christmas morning

I saw The Brutalist last night at tiff. I hate to use the m word, but it really is a masterpiece. From the opening screen that says "overture", I just sat back and knew this would be such a special film. It truly is structured and presents itself in the style of an American epic, but it can add itself to that group of films now in my opinion. The cinematography and watching it in 70 mm was truly remarkable. The score is one for the ages. Also the performances were outstanding esp Brody and Pearce, and I was honestly pleasantly surprised with Joe Alwyn's performance - I have not seen him cast in a role with such depth. This totally has Oscar potential, and I think Corbet can win Best Director.
@richardwhite29214 ай бұрын
This is also a reunion of Corbet with his Vox Lux actors Raffey Cassidy and Stacy Martin. How are they in the film? Clearly they like working with him if they keep coming back for more.

I'm so glad this movie exists. Not only for who's in it but because of the type. I was just talking to my dad about how rare a huge, sprawling historical epic with a giant running time is and now we're getting one and it's supposedly incredible

I remember this film described a few years ago as being based loosely on Architect Louis Kahn, which I think is still somewhat the case, and I was THRILLED! I love architecture and couldn’t wait to the film. It sounds like Corbet took it to another level by deepening the story lines and taking from various real-life creatives. I cannot WAIT to see it!! Also, Brian, when you said a few years ago that Tar was your favorite film of that year, I knew our tastes were very similar. Thank you for this review, have fun in Toronto!! 💙

It's interesting talking about Brady Corbett taking chances & dealing with difficult subject matter with this film - and I've now heard enough from various sources which puts it at the top of my list of film to watch when they come out. When I see Corbett's name I am immediately taken back to the 90's when he starred opposite Joseph Gordon Levitt in Mysterious Skin in which he was very good indeed, even though Levitt had the attention grabbing part. It was quite a shocking and controversial movie when it came out - unsurprising as it was directed by Greg Araki. Corbett is, I think, drawn to unusual and creative projects which don't neccessarily play to a wide or general audience. I'm thrilled for him with his film The Brutalist - though I haven't seen it yet, I don't doubt I'll be drawn in.

Who is the film's music by, Brian? You kept repeating how amazing it is, yet you never once mentioned the composer's name. You know the director's and all of the actors' names, but the rest of the cast (apparently) also deserves the same level of respect. You do that quite often in your reviews.

Im sorry but all the movie reviewers are completely pandering to this film. Its boring and poorly made. It's also unoriginal. How many holocaust movies do we get every year. Make something different. The film had terrible pacing and was a complete snoozefest. The epilogue was so patronising in its overt messaging.
