Dremmel with small brass brush is excellent for getting that rust out of small cylinders without scratching or damaging.

In your opinion… can the input shaft seals be replaced without taking apart the steering box????….my steering box seems to be working fine minus fluid leaking out of the input shaft

No I wouldn't try it. The Box isn't to hard to work on, the main difficulty is finding or making the tool/socket to remove that odd ring nut. The 4 spool valve rings are also a pain, but if yours are good you could skip replacing those.

It was the Ford service manual. I don't know if there available anymore. I bought the full set from Ford back in 1981. They used to have an order form in the owners manual of new trucks back then.

Does Ford or some other manufacturer make that tool to remove the nut? I don't have access to a welder or speciality tools to make one? I'm wondering if should just ship mine in to get rebuilt.

It was a Gates kit. Pertly sure it was a rebranded import. RockAuto was the source. Thanks for stopping by...Dean

china makes great stuff to not so great for selling to other countries, , because american companies buy there cheap stuff so they can mark it up more. so don't blame china, blame the american store buyers that sell to you
