@@chrisgreig5628 from what I found doing some research on this is they actually used just regular phone lines. With some type of modem. It was the ground floor for the Internet. Hi, I started out with some standard key stock But I had to mill it down because it has to be rather thin. I did that in the Bridgeport Mill sitting on some thin parallels.
@chaseth

Well shoot I just need a Bridgeport then is all haha. I’m in the same boat as many. I got a really nice baldor tool grinder but it doesn’t have the miter gauge. I got mine to sharpen chisel’s and plane blades. My grinder even came with white wheel luckily for that purpose but I have struggled to find a good miter gauge replacement. eBay is charging more for the gauges then I paid for the entire baldor. I’d like to find a gauge guage that can bolt on the gauge fence a taller piece of fence so I cancan last plane blades on their sides and take it to the wheel. (Vintage delta miter gauge for their tool grinder has what I am talking about). The track piece I have learned is the hardest piece to find a replacement for.

Your video popped up on my feed today. Have been watching lots of similar videos to get some ideas for my own foray into cutting keyways. I definitely like the "cutting upwards" approach. Biggest advantage is allowing the cutter to flex downward out of the cut as you said. Gravity being what it is, can have trouble with backlash in the screw allowing the cutter to advance too quickly if cutting downwards as well. Cutting upwards removes that risk from the equation. Have some plans in the works. May be putting out a video soon to show what I've got--will see. . . .

@JimsShop-e3g 16 күн бұрын
@@TheAyrCaveShop I wonder if you might want to remove the clapperbox entirely? I did that on one of my boring bar holders. Advantage there is that I got a couple of inches back that I can use for mounting the workpiece and travel for the ram/tooling. I have the clapperbox locked anyway for keyways. What works for Adam may not be the best solution for those of us with somewhat more diminutive equipment!

Dean, that's a great, general purpose tool for a hobby lathe. In my view, insert tooling is overrated for light hobby machines. I can't run them hard enough to get them to work well. The polished inserts for aluminium work better on steel, in my lathe anyway. Regards, Preso
