There's a throwaway line at 3:10 that they will improve the transit system between them (the terminals). No note about improving the Airtrain or have the subway come directly to the airport. And even then they only talk about connecting the new terminal 1 with terminal 4, and 4 with 5, presumably behind security.

Yes, I noticed this too. I could understand if you just make the typo to write m² instead of m³, but he also reads aloud the script and this would normally something you would stumble on, especially if you are very specific about the number of Olympic pools, although their depth can vary between 2 and 3 m. But maybe he already created an AI with his own voice, so less need to cut out any segments where you mispronounce words or need to cough, but on the other Hand such an AI is still to dumb to notice logical errors in a script.

Some notes I wanted to make about your video. 1. 2:10- Not all terminals are operated by airlines- some are operated by private companies. T4 being operated by JFKIAT, T1 will be operated by NTO, T6/7 will be operated by JMP. 2. 2:23- Saying airlines can never divert to another terminal is also inaccurate since all terminals do their best to support each other in times of need. T4 accepts flights from other airlines/terminals not scheduled to be there on a regular basis. They will also accept flights on an emergency basis if necessary. The main issue is the ground handling staff may not have the necessary man power/equipment to support an operation in another terminal if they are not based out of it as it'll stretch them thin and take time for them to get there.

As a New Yorker, I dread having to use JFK. I dread having to even pick up friends and family at any of the terminals. The layout is beyond confusing, and there really is no real, seamless connection to mass transit. Using JFK means dealing with cars, busses, and some of the worst traffic possible. I wish the video had touched on any improvements regarding the air traffic control tower and its computer systems.

The Taxi lobby is real people… and I get the impression that neither the MTA nor the Port Authority have much incentive to make access to LGA and JFK better via public transportation… like really? No upgraded to subway or airtrain service to JFK in all of this? Airtrain or subway extension to LGA was also blocked? Seems like NWR is the only NYC airport getting much needed public transportation upgrades between the AirTrain replacement (Doppelmayr cable driven) and PATH train extension to the NEC/EWR/AirTrain station (whenever that happens..).

I know it's controversial to say but I prefer EWR aka Newark Liberty Airport in every way... It's older and smaller yes, but it's also much better connected to the metro and existing railways and its adding a PATH extension and upgradings its airport station all while rebuilding the older space-age 60's terminals into more modern facilities... Yes there are separate terminals but at least there's only 3 of 'em and the airtrain links them along one line...

It's understandable to think that starting fresh might be easier, but it's not technically feasible to completely rebuild JFK Airport from scratch. Since it's a busy, operational airport with continuous flights and passengers, any renovation has to be carefully phased to ensure minimal disruption to ongoing operations. That's why the current $19 billion plan focuses on renovating and modernizing the existing infrastructure while keeping the airport functional.

Lived there for years. They need a speedy train link to Manhattan(the city) and a LaGuardia connector. Unfortunately, there is no viable area to build a new airport. JFK has been a nightmare for decades but I’m glad they’re doing something.

And even after they do all this, the best way to get from Manhattan to JFK will still be the fixed price for a taxi. How pathetic is that? Even worse, to get from one terminal to another still requires you to go through security again. More waiting, more being treated as a presumed criminal, more wandings. The problem is not the terminals. The problem is that air travel has become a hate-filled, anger-and-anxiety-inducing experience. Why not fix that first?

I was disappointed that nothing was said about ferry terminals. Years ago, Delta rain a water shuttle to LGA. I used it often. It was such a relaxing, non-gridlocked way to get to the airport quickly. With the MTA now having taken over the river ferries and having built many docks for it, this should be on the list.

I question how good this new airport will be. For example, the new Terminal 1 gets 23 gates all which can handle A380s, a plane that has been discontinued and won't be operating much past the next decade. So when it fully opens in 2030, the gates will not be at maximum capacity as the gates will service smaller planes then they can handle. The Terminals remaining after the redesign will be Terminal 1 (new), Terminal 4 (already open and finished), Terminal 5 (redesigned and expanded with 6), and Terminal 8 (redesigned, merged with Terminal 7). Four terminals in the end with 151 gates, up from 128. AirTrain will still run to all the terminals and the roads will be rerouted to make it potentially easier to get around by car as well.

As someone that’s through JFK every couple of weeks or so it’s not really that bad. I’m usually starting/ending my journey there but a lot of JFK’s problems from a passenger perspective (except airside terminal transfer) aren’t really JFK design problems, rather just big airport problems… For O&D passengers having 5 smaller terminals has its benefits over a smaller number of mega terminals.

New roads, parking and bridges? Who cares? Nobody of sane mind drives to or from JFK. The best thing they could do would be to directly link JFK to the various rail networks, LIRR, MTA, Metro North, Amtrak, literally any of them. As it is now, it requires three different trains from three different rail operators for me to reach JFK. It's maybe 50 miles yet it usually takes 2-3 hours to get there. Simplify the damn trains and have a massive train terminal under the airport like literally every other major global city does.
@stuartaaron613
@stuartaaron613 3 ай бұрын
You can't put a railway terminal under the airport because the airport is literally at sea level, so the ground water would flood any underground railway terminal. The Airtrain system is the best that can be done given the circumstances.
@blackhole9961
@blackhole9961 3 ай бұрын
You must have forgotten JFK’s disjointed layout and disconnected terminals (which is explained in the video). So a massive train terminal “under the airport” would probably land you under nothing but roads and taxiways. So you’d still need something like the air train to shuttle you around the terminals which is what JFK currently is doing. Its no different from DFWs skylink for example. The skylink shuttles you around the airport and you can take DART (light rail) to get to downtown.

All nice and stuff, but what is and will be missing: Good Public Transport. 20 km (13 mi) between JFK and Manhattan and it still takes an hour by AirTrain + MTA. It won't need crazy high-tech solutions like a Maglev or Hyper Loop. Standard rail with 160 km/h (100 mph), a limited number of stops (e.g. Broadway Junction + Atlantic Av/Barclays Ctr) and it should be easily done in 20-30 min. Or just reactivate the old _Rockaway Beach Branch_ between LIRR and Howard Beach, a cut-and-cover tunnel parallel to RWY 13R/31L, arriving between T1 and T4, done.
