They may be small businesses in size but are they small businesses in profit.....we have to understand what the revenue of these small businesses...let us say they have an average revenue of Rs20Cr with 100 employees yeah they are small but are they weak...I do not know the revenue of diamond businesses but I bet it is not insignificant so may be this collaboration is not very surprising. May be the State and Centre government gave subsidies. Plus they have to plan the surrounding areas to be congestion free...etc etc...but great building though.

One unique thing about the Surat Diamond Bourse is that it has a customs clearance house for import and export of diamonds and jewellery. Fun fact: India took over from Israel a while back as the world's main diamond exchange, though Israel is still a big one. Israel's diamond exchange is also called the Bourse (a synonym for an exchange, but not everyone uses this word), and it was Israel's largest office complex when built in the 1980s. I guess this industry really needs a lot of office space. In the 2020s there is a plan to renovate the entire district in Israel, with towers of up to 520 m (!). Anyway, good for India and its diamond industry, very exciting stuff.

@@SeverityOne That's what english Wictionary thinks. German Wiktionary mentions a Dutch merchant family "Beurs" from the 15th century which held business gatherings at their house. Hence the meaning of "place for trading". The other meaning of "wallet" ultimately originates from Latin, either through Dutch or French or other related languages. In the end the name of the family may very well be derived from the meaning "wallet", but they turned it also into a word for "place of trading".

There's certainly a huge industrial demand for diamonds, but as jewels they're losing interest rapidly. The only thing setting a 'natural' diamond apart from a much cheaper "synthetic" diamond is the questionable ethics of its origins, and they're FAR more common than the diamond cartels would want you to believe. They're really only still valuable to people who've been out of the loop for the last decade or so, with actually rare gemstones picking up significantly in interest instead.

@@sjgghosh7677I think you got the wrong conclusion. If the narrator what said true over 5k small business commissioned it this means already most of the work place is sold out. If all the facilities this business owner needs is met like trading , raw material etc in one place then they would definitely move it's not like they are changing city or state they are just moving from one part of the city to another part of the city. Regarding labour they are all skilled/semi skilled workers so they want and will work only in this industry so they will also starts moving to closer to this building as more work opportunities in this building. You can see that in every metropolitan city people tend to live near where they work or they just travel daily. That being said every buisness will have exception like you said maybe there is a owner who just started or not doing great he may not move given the cost of rent transportation etc. If majority workers starts going to this new building then this exception buisness owner also face workers shortage eventually he might need to move to the building. I absolutely love this building design for a futuristic, "solarpunk" style hospital (with some imaginary tech that honestly isn't impossible to achieve, bear with me) Imagine this: similar design with an ER section at the base of either end. Along the spine you could have a bunch of different wings full of specialists, one for cardiac, respiratory, neuro, ICU, maternity, etc. Now what if that main spine had a maglev powered patient delivery system, kind of like a human bullet train, that can shoot people down from say the ER entrance down to respiratory, or from Neuro to the ICU? It could be SIGNIFICANTLY faster than running people down the hallways. It could almost be the first "hypertube" style system even eventually down the road. Now picture the roof or perhaps as well a wing dedicated to growing food sustainably and cooking it, to ensure the people that are there healing are being fed MAXIMUM nutritional food with no chemicals preservatives etc. They could do AI robotic farming with hydroponics. They could attach wind turbines to the MANY edges of the building in order to capture large amounts of wind power. (there are styles of turbines that are like boxes that sit at the corners of buildings and spin like a roller pin instead of a pinwheel) They could cover the building in solar capturing glass to benefit from the maximized sun exposure - which would also help in patients healing as well. The many courtyards could also be used for both recreation but also potentially therapeutically. I think this could actually be like, the medical center of the future.

As an Indian I would say completing such a massive project that involved such a massive number of Individual traders wouldn't have been possible in any other state except for GUJARAT (I am not Gujarati BTW for any Left wing Indian guy who is thinking I am promoting Gujarat. I am from Odisha). Gujarat is truly a Business oriented state where people tend to collaborate with one another instead of fighting with each other for more business, and when I say that I mean in many other states of India such attempts were made to unify traders under one union but it never really worked out so efficiently except for TAMIL NADU , MAHARASHTRA , KARNATAKA. I hope more and more states in India could learn and follow foot steps of these States to consolidate their distinctive Industries without Unnecessary Infighting.

Exploring the factors behind the 388M$ construction cost of a building - labor, materials, and living expenses vary globally. In India, workers earn around 1000₹ a day, totaling about 4000 USD yearly, significantly less than the 50,000 USD earned by US workers. Cheaper materials and lower wages contribute to reduced costs. This economic context explains the differences in building costs. A 300 million dollar building in India could cost at least 3 billion in the USA. #Economics

Cost of living is also cheaper in India. The purchasing power parity conversion is 23 for India. So, 4000 USD per year, has a purchasing power of 92000 USD. And this is an inaccurate overestimate. So, let's do the correct calculation - 1000₹ per day = 200000 ₹ per year (of 200 working days) = 2400 usd per year. Multiplying PPP, we get 57000 usd per year, which isn't too bad.

Labours in 30k monthly in india can also live better & afford better than US counterpart due to how expensive things for basic living necessities r in US market compared to Indian market, so why forget mention that factor as well

This place reminds me of GM's old world headquarters (now Cadillac Palace) in Detroit. The design is smaller but similar. A long office block that acts like a spine with 8 wings so every single office gets plenty of sunlight. Of course the old GM building wasn't built for manufacturing but for office space and design studios. Either way it's kinda fascinating that this design still works for the modern day despite being over a century old.

The amount of jealous and butt-hurt people in the comment section talking crap about this beautiful building or India in general makes me happy! #CryMore you losers as this is India's century and there's not a damn thing you can do about it. 💪
