It's funny how the big trap is illegal to use not because of what it would do to a bear, but what it could do to you and then he makes it even bigger.
@Baiko Жыл бұрын
No, it's because of what it does to the bear. More generally, all leg-hold traps with teeth are illegal in US because it's more likely that the animal chews or wrings off the caught paw. They just cause unnecessary pain and suffering to the animal, with the possibility of not even actually catching it. Padded and offset leg traps are generally allowed in North America (though mostly not elsewhere in the world) because they're more likely to catch the animal, and because they don't cause permanent harm if for example a wrong animal is caught.

Here's the reformatted version for easy pasting into a KZbin comment: Assuming the springs are standard car springs with an initial length of around 35 cm, compressing them to one-third of their length would mean compressing them by about two-thirds of the original length: x = (2/3) * 35 cm ≈ 0.233 m For a spring with a diameter of 15-20 cm and a 1-inch (2.54 cm) wire thickness, the stiffness (k) is typically around 27,500 N/m for car suspension springs. Calculations: 1. Compression force for one spring: F = k * x = 27,500 N/m * 0.233 m ≈ 6,408 N 2. Total force for four springs: F_total = 4 * F = 4 * 6,408 N ≈ 25,632 N The total force generated by the trap, with the springs compressed to one-third of their original length, is around 25,632 N (about 2.6 tons of force). That's a massive force capable of producing substantial pressure or closing power in the trap.

that's not a bear trap, that's a dinosaur trap. If we still had sauropods roaming around, this thing would probably cripple them.

My uncle lived in Alaska for decades and was an avid hunter. He drove to Missouri once just for fun. He brought some fun toys for us. Left a real bear trap with jaws just like on TV. They had been outlawed in Alaska. Everyone thought it was cool as hell till it cut a broom handle in half. And then a hammer handle. My dad hid that thing somewhere and ony HE knew. My brother's an I looked for it for years. My dad was pretty smart... lol

I want to see an episode similar to this. From the movie 13 Ghosts, when the guy gets cut veritcally in half by a glass wall the comes down from the ceiling and one side of the body slides down and shows the other side of the body stuck on the other side of the glass! Wonder how strong and fast the glass would need to be to get those results...

Yeah that trap you used isn't the same as the BMPs that are best for humane trapping. The new traps are better and account for bone diameters of typical leg bones, a lot like the one with the gap you showed. This makes the traps more of a device to detain game rather than injure or maim.
