The JEEPS are VW 183 Iltis. I own a 1979 Iltis here in the UK. The first Beetle is a 1977-78 1200 standard beetle built in that spec for the Bundeswehr also. I've owned one of those too. The second Beetle is a post 1978 Mexican built Beetle for the Bundeswehr. The earlier cars stopped being produced at Emden in 1978 and then they were bought from VW Mexico. The steering wheels and headrests or lack of, give it away. The Trabant convertibles were known as Trabant Kubels. The civilian soft top version were known as Tramps.

Thanks for the video. Incredible chaos and everything is rotten. Very sad for the VW Iltis and DKW Munga. The Sibmas 6x6 Armored Support Vehicle at 13:00 is a Belgian development from 1970 and later. Only used in Malaysia. Very, very rarely belongs in a museum or in collector's hands.

The first American pickup you filmed is a Dodge, probably a D100 from the second half of the '70s or early '80s, with a 318 cu. in. V8 (about 5.2 litres and petrol-powered.) The first one is a standard cab pickup with the frames still in place for a fabric tilt over the load area, and the one behind is a double cab with what appears to be some form of special rear body. They're both 4x4 as they have the lever for the transfer box on the cab floor and they both appear to be automatics with column change. Both 4x4 and 4x2 versions saw extensive use with the US armed forces, mostly with automatic gearboxes though some used in more specialised roles did have manual boxes. Shortened twin rear wheel (duallies) were used as aircraft tugs on air bases and the MoD in the UK did have a number of these in right-hand drive form as aircraft crash tenders on a number of RAF, Navy and Fleet Air Arm bases. I live near an old Naval air field that had one of the big Dodge crash tenders and, in fact, it is still in service as a back-up unit to the newer Carmichael 6x6 Range-Rover that replaced it in the second half of the '80s, at the helicopter repair station they were transferred to when the airfield closed for military use

7:10 are Volkswagen Type 183's or more commonly know as the Iltis. 8:02 looks to be a mid 1950s Mercedes-Benz L-series, probably an L 311 or L 312. 9:06 is a Trabant P 601 A Kübel that was used by the East German military. The circular faded spot on the drivers side above the front wheel looks like where the roundel was placed. EDIT: 8:12 are DKW Munga's, I almost missed em'. 4:00 is an East German Robur LO 2002. 12:00 looks like some type of IVECO or Magirus. 13:02 is a Belgian SIBMAS IFV, but it's missing the turret. 17:50 are Henschel HS 115 A's.

I was there last summer and spoke to the owner. This is a private collection. He is slowly getting rid of the cars. I understood that he is now getting taxed on his collection. There are a few motion sensors around the place and signs no entry. Owner can be quite angry if he finds you there. You can pay 20 euros and then he willlet you roam around for as long as you want.

First time posting on one of your videos but I have been watching you for a good bit now. I truly enjoying watching all your videos, so thank you very much! Anyways, I love seeing all the old vehicles especially thoses VW Beetles. Growing up my father had one and he loved that thing. We used to ride up in the mountains and around his property in the woods. Those are some wonderful memories from my childhood. RJF Scooter beat me to the punch about the two American trucks being Dodges. My husband was watching with me and he said wait I think that is a Dodge. No matter they were an unexpected find and so cool to see!!! Also in the into to the video, I happened to see a Dutch flag on the side of a vehicle, that was nice to see since my husband is Dutch. I would guess that that was once a military and government surplus dealer that probably bought from right across Europe judging by the number of former Eastern bloc and American vehicles there. The American stuff would have come from the various US military bases in Europe that closed down after the end of the cold war, it used to be that you couldn't really go anywhere in East Anglia without tripping over pensioned off US military vehicles and personal vehicles that US service personnel had left behind when they got transferred back home. All the left overs got parcelled up and sold off in job lots, frequently for not even scrap value. That is rather the problem with buying direct from military and government disposal organisations, it's often almost impossible to buy a single vehicle or single lot as you have to buy an entire parcel to get what you want. If you have the time and the space then the stuff in the parcel that isn't what you wanted or isn't fit for selling on for re-use then you can break it down for parts, hence the number of smashed up vehicles. A friend of mine once bought a truck from the UK military surplus auction, well, I say A truck, it turned out that he'd bought 10, most of which were parts vehicles as well as the one he wanted. He paid about £1600 for the lot, which was a lot less than the V8-powered Iveco-Ford Cargo tractor unit on its own was worth. That truck is still working for him and earning a good living, and he's got enough parts to build probably another 4 if he could be bothered... He certainly won't be needing to buy much for the foreseeable future, not even service parts as a load of them were included in the parcel...

@@simbared It's probably different with different militaries. In the UK, anything that has been cleared for disposal and genuinely is junk will generally get sold off as scrap as it makes the best money that way rather than going through a disposal auction. I suspect a lot of the "junk" that ends up with the dealers is just stuff they haven't managed to find a buyer for, or items that were sold off as being for parts only and have been harvested, pr partially harvested. Once there is nothing left, then they'll probably make the trip to the scrap yard...

Those blue vehicles look like they have been bodge repainted for export, most likely to Africa as you still see many Rundhaubers there. Ex-military export vehicles are sometimes oversprayed to hide their typical military colors, however the typical color for military vehicles in Africa is usually sand not green as in Europe. It looks as if they could have been resprayed relatively recently so probably are actually still waiting to go en route. These vehicles are, to me, strangely standing out from a crowd of long abandoned vehicles because they show some recent activity. Those test devices in the back of the truck were most likely a telecom engineer's. The truck looks like a telecom truck but I'm not sure if they were actually used inside there at one time or just stored there later. On the pile of stuff at 16:23 is a motorcycle frame that looks like it could be from a Hercules K125 military motorcycle. Such places are always a hell of a trip and would be even more if their history was known.

The first Beetle with the red cross on the doors has the elephant's foot larger rear lights and black door handles and trim so that puts it well into the 1970s for manufacture. It's probably one of the poverty model 1200s made for military and government service in a number of European countries. They also built them in right-hand drive form for use by postal services so that the driver didn't have to get out of the car to put the post in people's post boxes. A friend of mine has one of those from 1979 and, even by Beetle standards, boy is it slow. It is very charming though...

23:55 bees nest. That is why I am scared to open cars that have been sitting for so long. There is a truck in my neighbors yard, and there is a bees nest in the mirror. (I think that nest in the mirror and in this Aerostar are abandoned and old though)

These first trucks are East-German. The first one you came by was a Robur, The crane and the yellow one are W50. Also, the electronics equipment is of East-German descent.

It is an old military Base in east Germany. The old german democratik republik. Some east trucks like IFA W50, L60, old Robur Bus and the Trabant kübel an open military version of the Trabant 600 from DDR. The VW Iltis ,beetles, us cars, MAN and so on are comes in that base after Germany become one and the End of the wall 1990. The german army is now called Bundeswehr. The Tank with wheels are from the 80s its still aktiv in german Bundeswehr, i can not explain why its left there because its a lot of money worth. On the paper in the truck with the spy case on the Back stands: its not allowed to sleep when the heater is on! Allways put the swich of fresh air. It is definately NOT an eastern german military base, it is located in belgium. The wheeled tank is also a belgian version and was never used by the Bundeswehr. Before telling such a tale, do a little research next time.

The U.S. Military designation for the Dodge Pick up's were M-880's. We used them when I joined the Army in 1981.

After the wall came down in 1989, a lot of former eastern Germany and soviet military and utility equipment was sold off by the newly unified Germany to boost its economy, many ended up being bought by folk in the west. I guess that’s how much of this stuff ended up there. Looking at the vehicles I’d say the property was in use till the mid 90,’s. the American stuff will be what was on American airbases in Germany, they ship them over when deployed there,as German cars where relatively expensive at the time, then sell them when they return to America as its not worth the shipping costs.

7:25 The 4 wheel drive of the VW Iltis was the origin and the "mother" of the Audi Quattro drive. The engine (75PS 1600ccm Petrol) was also used in Golf MK 1 and Scirocco MK1. Car history at it´s best :-) 7:44 the Military-Sign on the Iltis is from the "Panzergrenadier Battaillon 362 in Walldürn/ South-West Germany. The Base was dissolved in 1992. For 30€ you can visit this Military-Sematary (look for Traction Sud/Belgium).

Those Volkswagen Iltis military vehicles were incredibly advanced for the time and extremely capable in difficult terrain. They're pretty rare now too so it's quite a surprise to see so many sitting in the same place. I don't imagine any of those will ever go back on the road as they look pretty rough and rotten...

They are called the iltis I ran one for 4 years after Canada retired them. cost us 85k per vehicle when we made them from 1984 to 1986 and they could go pretty much anywhere!! officially they are the model 183 or the next version of the VW thing. great little machines.

And crush truck is IFA W 50 is a medium-duty truck built by the East German IFA conglomerate at their Ludwigsfelde plant from 1965 until 1990. A total of about 572,000 were built in Ludwigsfelde, with an unknown additional number of special-use vehicles assembled at other plants. It was meant to be succeeded by the IFA L 60 but outlived it by several months. IFA ended all truck production on 17 December 1990,[1] following the reunification of Germany.

When I see some models of the trucks, I assume that you were in former East Germany. Probably everything came to a halt there, after the Wall fell in 1990. So that is why everything looks damaged and it is no longer being looked after for 25 to 30 years.

The fire engine and crane that you found appear to be products of the former East Germany. The build plate on the front of the fire engine says VEB Robur-Werke Zittau. Robur are a company that build fire engine bodies and I'm sure they're still going, largely building vehicles for specialist applications now. Zittau, I'm pretty certain, is a town in eastern Germany over towards the Polish border, so the former East Germany. I'm not sure what the make of the truck chassis are but I sort of vaguely recognise the shape and style of the cab. These vehicles probably aren't as old as they look as a lot of the former communist manufacturers kept their designs in production for a long time. Based on the fact that the fire truck had black-painted door handles rather than bright metal I would guess it dates from the second half of the 1980s and maybe as late as the early '90s...

Nothing older than the 1970's. Seems to be an original army base of a former Cold War Bundeswehr regiment (West German Army) that was made redundant when Germany was again unified. When Gorbachev and Reagan kissed and made up in 1989 it brought an end to the Cold War and almost immediately, and certainly by 1990, hundreds of German and allied army units were made redundant. Allied units, mostly US and British returned with their equipment to their own countries. German equipment however became a headache to deal with and remained where it was. Virtually of Russia's land, sea and air units ceased to exist. Pay and salary to all Russian units stopped overnight and as a result of 'no pay, no work' all Russian servicemen walked off the job and returned home leaving airbases, naval bases and army bases fully equipped but completely abandoned. With fixed workshops at this location, this will likely be an original unmaintained East German army base, possibly a Mechanical and Engineering unit (just a guess) that has fallen into civilian hands and allowed to become very overgrown by trees and scrubs while he has added a small umber of non-military vehicles from the 1990s to present to the collection. It's close to a highway as you can hear fast moving traffic in the background. Great video. I could hear the sound okay. Would like to know the location on Google Earth so I could explore more, I'm in Australia so very unlikely to ever go there!

American cars and trucks used to have the last two digits of the year molded into the rear tail lights. Such as A213456B92 the 92 would be the year the car was built. Don’t know if they still do or not.

The pickup trucks aren't Ford's but Dodge three quarter ton models. The V8 engines are the Chrysler 360. That body style was built from 1972 to 1992. The ones you found are 1976 model year. They are what the US Army called the Dodge M80. The ones you found were at one time US Army inventory. When Chrysler was in financial trouble in the mid-70s the government purchased a lot of these pickup trucks for the US military all branches of service. It did help Chrysler out of a financial bind and the trucks are note worthy in that they have bullet proof four wheel gear. Towards the end of your video is a small US Government Jeep trailer from World War II. That looks to be all there and if it were here in the states you could get at least $4,000 for it. They are very rare so go back find out who owns it and buy it before somebody decides to destroy it with a sledgehammer. Any World War II vehicle collector would love to have it in their collection.

That was some fined, The truck at 19:26 a Iveco TurboStar 190 38, this truck has a 17.2 L V8 they were quite a common sight on the road up till about 15-20 years ago in the UK [ still loads in Italy ]. TurboStars are pretty sought after now.

The two first trucks are Robur and IFA. Made in East Germny. The small 4x4 are volkswagen Iltis ( 1980) and Auto Union (1960) . The truck engine comes from a air cooled Magirus Deutz truck . The bike frame is from a MZ 250. All those vehicles except the Iltis and Auto Union are East German made.

Must be ex US Germany army stock. Mercedes, Magirus, MAN, VW, and even some Trabants (East German/DDR car maker). The Tatra truck is a Czech brand. Lighter van was French made but the Ford combivan had Belgian nbr plates... Would've liked to be with you that day. Btw, the first beetle you saw was a later model, certainly not an early one, because of the big square back window. The big amphibian troop transporter "Sibmas" (made in Belgium) is definitely NOT from WW2 but very actual... IVECO is an industrial/army vehicles subsidiary of FIAT. Nice find...!

The engine is a Deutz 413 6 Cyl. the VW`s are the so called "Iltis" from the german Army in the 80`s till 90`s, but there are also Trabant Kübelwagen from the east german Army as well as Mercedes, Magirus-Deutz, Robur and Iveco Trucks. The Tank is a Belgian Sibmas, just 186 produced betw. 1983-1985, wich was and still is only used by the Malaysian Army (quite interesting to find this one is in Germany...) the old Fire Truck looks like a Tatra 148 built 1968-1982,

I saw a lot of Volkswagen Kubelwagens in the video, the beetle was used as an ambulance sort of vehicle, I saw Ford f-150s, I thought I saw a Dodge power wagon. Mostly German medical vehicles it looks like. Probably from WWII, that stuff is worth a fortune. Likely a place where they took government vehicles to be fixed or scrapped, probably started use in the 1940s and was abandoned in stages, the last stage seems to be abandoned in the 90s

The big, red air-cooled V8 truck engine that was sitting on the ground outside the area with the Trabant Tramp (as originally used by the East German police and border guards) and various parts sitting in is probably what the East German fire engine has in it, the big cooling fan on the front looked the same as what could be seen behind the front water pump. That could well be an engine of Tatra design, a Czech company that made mad, air-cooled, rear engine V8-powered big saloon cars/limos up to the mid '90s and amazing air-cooled monster off-road trucks up until very recently if they're not still going. They're well worth looking up on line as they are utterly insane monsters, often used in the Middle Eastern oil fields now where the sand and high temperatures don't bother them even slightly. In fact, next to the fire truck with the long nose and bonnet (a Magirus, I think) there was a red/orange and white Tatra road tractor unit from the '70s or '80s, which is probably a pretty rare bird in Western Europe...

aircooled tatra trucks are still made today, though many customers specify more modern engines in them for road use, as the old aircooled diesels don't meet euro emissions specs.

The pick ups are Dodge Those VW badges keeps are bombardier iltis. That orange v 6 engine is coming out of a magirus deutz truck. Those engines were air cooled.
