Are There Any "Apostles" Today or Has this Gift Ceased?

There are a lot of churches who have people who refer to themselves as an "apostle." But, is this biblical? Is there such thing as a modern-day apostle? Let me know in the comments below and also how you feel about people having these types of titles in the body of Christ in general. Thanks!

The does talk about the role and requirements for 1 to be a pastor or a bishop so, it's technically still a title not a rank but specific service as all services are. A title shouldn't make one think highly. So as long you don't think highly of yourself I think it's fine. I totally agree we need not to be called by our titles, but I'm saying roles like specific roles exist. We all are servants end of the day. And all in need of saving equally in need of saving all wretched sinners, who's righteousness is as filthy rags. We should be humble. And to answer your question no they don't exist today anyone who qualified died.

This is interesting! I never considered the importance of title when I’ve thought of Apostle. My understand of an apostle has always been someone who builds churches and that’s how I always related to it. I definitely agree when it comes to serving for the Kingdom of God, titles should not matter. Just last week I tried to explain to my mother that her prayers are just as powerful as her pastor’s! God is not a respecter persons! All it takes is faith and a heart prepared for submission and obedience to the Holy Spirit.

There are many other apostles mentioned in the NT who didn't witness the resurrection including Paul. Also it is interesting that Ephesians 4 when speaking about "He gave some to be apostles" also says "until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God becoming mature and attaining to the full measure of the stature of Christ" : a process that is still very much taking place. Therefore we cannot attain that maturity if we fail to allow these 5 fold gifts to be in operation. These 5 anointings because they are the very gifts of Christ are absolutely necessary for the equipping of the Body of Christ today. I agree that people cannot simply take the title of apostle but those who are genuinely called to this office need to step into it. Their authority and mandate as forerunners and ambassadors is needed more than ever. If you look at the word "apostle" in the greek it depicted a military expedition, an onvoy of ships going out into places that were uncolonized, sent by one of higher authority. The apostle or naval officer brought with him people of many giftings and released them off the ship to establish their culture in these places. Many people sit in church and never get a sense of their God given purpose simply because there is lacking that apostolic gift which can release and empower them. They may be pastored and cared for but not released. Every part should be moving as Eph 4:16 says in order that the Church may grow into Christ.

I've always thought Paul was extremely humble. (probably to overcompensate for all the persecution he did). But the verse he struck me as humble is 1 Timothy 1:15 "Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners-of whom I am the worst."

God has set in the Church these offices. It seems to me we need ALL THESE OFFICES TO DAY as we approach the end times. To be consistent in terms of the title you must apply the same logic to Pastors, Teachers, & Evangelist. if one cannot say he is an Apostle..same is true for the other offices. @@colprincess8579 when you look at the first part of that verse, Paul says “he gave some...” Those are 3 very key and important words. He is Jesus, right? Then it says Jesus gave, not giving as in a present tense. The term “Gave “only references a past tense situation. And then the scripture says some... Now the Greek translated this particular word in this verse as “tous” which mean “their”or “them”.So there is no way you can re translate that term to say or make it an “us” statement, as that would be adding and subtracting from the word of God. And Bible scripture states it clearly about doing such things in proverbs 30:5-6: “Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.” ‭‭And here is a New Testament verse.. Revelation 12:18-19 says: “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” ‭‭ so there, just the first 3 words in that scripture has total difference in implication that you’re claiming.

Yes, gifts are ever present today and that folks on KZbin don't know everything. :-) However, I probably should have clarified my original question/statement. When I say prophets or prophetess I mean, a self proclaimed 'prophet' whose only word is that of blessing, success, and profit. "The Lord will bless you..." Now in the literal definition of a prophet - 'a person regarded as an inspired teacher or proclaimer of the will of God.' I'm sure we could split hairs. However, I'm really referring to those 'prophets' who only proclaim blessing and favor. Basically prophets who only give good news and not the bad. Hopefully that clarifies it. THanks!

Very well put. We cannot neglect what God's word says in ephesians ch 4 v 11. He gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, some pastors, some teachers. So this is 5 fold ministry for the equipping of saints in verse 12. We must read our Bible very well and not neglect what God has said

Yes, I believe that God has Apostles in the Body of Christ today. Apostles are spiritual gifts to the Church as are Pastors, teachers, evangelists, and yes Prophets for the perfecting of the saints and for the unity of the faith in the Body of Christ bringing us to full spiritual maturity in Christ. They are not titles, but offices and gifts that these men and women of God are born with.

Brother Parr spoke about what is actually supported in the Bible. Just because you want to believe it does not make it true. What describes "modern day apostles and prophets" is not Biblical. The Bible is God-breathed, inspired by God, it is complete, there are no new revelations. The Bible already shows any/all coming judgements for not following God's will and/or the end of the age. We do not need new/other revelations.

The answer to your question is: You can't! That's not the assignment of modern day Apostles. And that's the problem. People don't understand what Apostles are required to do today, so they just dismiss them. You can't establish and lay down a foundation that is already laid down. Answer this for me: What happens if those foundations aren't protected? What happens if those foundations are abandoned? What happens when those foundations are damaged and there's no one there to repair them? It's simple. One day, your house will come crashing down! The enemy is always attacking and trying to destroy the foundations that the original Apostles laid down. The enemy is constantly trying to get people to ignore those foundations. So, the modern day Apostles are assigned to protect them, to continually teach them; to repair the damage done to them and to defend them. The Bible calls Apostles the defenders of the faith. So, if you get rid of Apostles then you lose your 1st line of defense against the enemy. And the 1st thing the enemy attacks is the foundation of anything! That's why Apostles are still used and needed today. It's amazing to me how people can still accept Prophets and Evangelists and Pastors and Teachers and Bishops but all of a sudden, nope there can't be Apostles. That doesn't make any sense to me. That is a trick of the enemy. And that's why the Church all over the world is so out of order. It's sad. The issue isn't are there true Apostles today. There will always be Apostles used by the Lord. He never stopped calling and using them. And there's not a single scripture in the New Testament where Jesus or the Apostles ever stated that He did. Or that after them, there would be no more. The 5 fold positions must all work together. If you lost one, then you cannot fulfill that scripture. The real issue is figuring out which ones are true Apostles and which ones are false ones. People need to be taught truth. They need understanding. And they need to wake the hell up! And according to the Bible, there are consequences for rejecting the Lord's true Apostles. If it was true then, then it is true today. And people are going to find that out the hard way if they keep disrespecting the Lord's true Apostles. Stay prayerful my brother. This is what the Lord has called me to do. I am an Apostle. Not a religious one. Not a "Church" one. Not a false one. But one of his true ones. Awesome video. Brother parr you didn't cover Barnabas as an apostle scripture does show if he meet the 3 requirements. Also you did cover Philip being addressed as the evangelist in acts 21:8 or the prophet name Agabus in acts 21:10 as related to addressing them with titles. I believe titles are to be see as the assignment that the individual is call to serve in not an office or position. The only office/position designated in the church was the office of an overseer/bishop 1Timothy 3:1. I believe the misuse of power in the church has cause confusion around the titles. I was ordained as an apostle and I'm slowly removing that from my media stuff because people are seeing it as making me more important than other. Apostle is a function or role to be play not a position or office to be coveted. Oh and finally why are there so many references to elders in the church if the position is not valid even the apostle Peter refers to himself as an elder in 1 peter 5:1.

Second prophets means the prophets were the inspired preachers 1Corinthians 14:3. Third teachers showing the need for instruction then the various gifts that follow help the church fulfill God's will of equipping and strengthening the church to save soul.

@@thembamasilela5450 I think what Paul is saying is that Apostles hold the highest position in the body of Christ then Prophets and so on, he then says not everyone can be an apostle or prophet or teacher, speaker of tongues, interpreters of tongues, miracle worker and healers within the church. Paul says these gifts are for the edification of the church. So every church should have people with these gifts for edification.

Revelation IS illumination. Allen and others are just playing with words. They need to examine what they are saying. I'm not revealing anything if I don't bring it out into the light to be seen or known by someone. So long as light is not shining on it, it's still hidden. If a light is not illuminating something, it cannot be seen. Do not be fooled by their argument. It's just a lame attempt to insist that God doesn't reveal anything anymore. He still reveals or no one would grow in the knowledge of God.

So truth. That is exactly what I just said. He should be honest about his position and denomination in the body so that people can be educated and determine that for themselves. His videos around this subject are not neutral, they are reformed. People who believe in the gifts and office are not just in "wrong doctrine", there is a difference of opinion and that needs to be stated as the body is split in half on the issue. It is arrogant to sit here and believe you are right and everyone else is wrong and that is the biggest problem people have with conservative stances within Western Christianity today. They're always right and everyone else is wrong. It's quite arrogant, just as he is stating titles are arrogant. At least educate yourself on how that side teaches it and why they see it that way and then express the two sides neutrally.

​@@t0ny1992 Umm I think you're mistaken. I was agreeing with you, I am in agreement with the gifts and I was actually speaking about the video, not you. When I said you must be neutral I was speaking of Parrl, I was stating that there are divisions in the body between denominations. I.E. Assemblies of God and Reformed, those are complete opposites but reformed cannot say that AOG is false and wrong because they believe in, for example, tongues. If you as a reformed don't believe in tongues and believe it has ceased, but you are teaching to Christians from all denominations online, it's best to be upfront with your stance on that topic and the fact that some denominations believe the opposite. The problem is many Christians look at this channel from all backgrounds and take it as 100% orthodoxy and anything outside of that is taken as false. That presents a problem because you may take that back to your apostolic, charismatic, methodist etc church and then believe their false based on a video like this. People hold these videos to their heart and when it says opposite of what they learn, many times they abadon what they've learned for something they saw from another denomination. My only point is that this would mislead the sheep who do not know the difference between continuationism and cessationism. I hope that clarified it. I did not mean any offense to you. Best!

@@mitchellc4 So Jesus is one with the Father in nature and essence(John 10:30), and he claims that he is equal with the Father. That means, if the Father is the only true God, Jesus has to be in that "Only true God" category. Otherwise, Jesus would be a liar to claim he's one with the Father in essence and nature. Jesus has 2 natures. Divine nature, and human nature. It's Jesus' human nature that died and resurrected. His Divine nature remained alive. And my friend, Jesus claimed he was God, numerous times, but I'll mention only 1. Mathew 4:5-7. To sum it up: Jesus is being tested/tempted by Satan the second time, Jesus says to Satan: "...You shall not tempt the LORD your God." My friend, I want you to think about that. Concerning the using titles when you have a certain calling, consider Ephesians 4:11-12: "And he gave some apostles; and some prophets; and some evangelists; and some pastors and teachers For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:" So it's all right to call someone an apostle, since that's what the Almighty intended (for He would not have given us those positions if we were not intended to acknowledge those who hold them).

Genuinely asking, Through a persons intimate relationship with God and by leading of the Holy Spirit do we only recieve revelations through scripture? Ive just noticed that not everyone experiences the Lord and how He reveals mysteries the same way because we all have different views and understanding. Some of us cannot read or arent as versed. The bible in KJV is higly esteemed for english readers, but what about when its translated to other languages? I feel like new revelation is different for everyone. Theres no way to truly know what has and what hasnt been revealed. I dont know how we truly measure something being new revelation even its found in scripture. Some have deper revelation than others. Some of us see angels and get impartations. How do we explain these things? Haha i guess its an open question. Not merely directed at you. But open for others who agree with your view point. Im learning.

@@rshelly No, people don't only receive revelations through Scripture. This mentality that is so common among Christians is wrong. Like what was said in the video that revelation is not the same as illumination? Seriously, that's just semantics. Because revelation IS illumination. You were given information that you did not know, so it was unveiled or uncovered (revealed) to you and was brought out to the light (illumination). God can reveal things to a person that have to do with the distant future and are not written in the Bible. I've experienced that. He can also reveal things about the characters that are not explicitly written in the Bible either. It's the Christians who limit themselves with these silly mindsets. If you really examine what they say, you find that they are just coming up with excuses to keep themselves from opening up to the spirit realm. I'm a Christian too, but I'm fed up with these types of Christians who spend so much time and effort on criticizing those who do step out and walk in the supernatural. They don't realize how ridiculous they sound with their arguments.

The signs, the gifts and manifestations of the Spirit are all supernatural. Why some of us experience these and others don't must have to do with faith and seeking God. Therefore they take the cessationist view of all that is supernatural in our faith. The baptism with the Spirit with the manifestation of tongues is their favorite criticism. Yet there is much more to experience that would set their hair on fire just to hear the report I believe it is the Lord's desire to manifest himself in some way whenever we come together. God truly inhabits the praises of his people. I am a witness to the cloud of smoke, to not being able to stand because of presence of the Spirit. I can testify to quaking violently and both feet leaving the floor. I have also had a visit from Jesus, He came into the room as I was offering praise. I didn't see him but sensed where he was in the room. And the power that emanated from his being was so great that it went right through me. There was in me a fear that I have never known. And I thought to myself, Oh Lord, what have I gotten myself into? That is word for word what I thought but the visit was brief. These experiences are humbling for me and I am glad for them all. Jesus said If you love me, my Father will love you and we will manifest ourselves to you. My walk with God has been supernatural from day one. I was saved at home and delivered from an evil spirit. I called on the name of Jesus and it departed instantly. My bedroom filled with smoke and my wife was suddenly off in the distance and appeared to be two feet tall because I was so deep in the Spirit. I gave this testimony to glorify our Lord Jesus Christ and not to receive honor unto myself. I want men to know the kind of God we serve. I will gladly suffer reproach from men if it means that God is magnified. As for those who are in bondage to their natural senses and to the ignorance that is in them, I would that they might receive the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God and that the love of God, the grace of Christ and the communion of the Holy Ghost be with their spirit, amen. Brother Parr, this is an excellent presentation! Deep truth delivered with unpretentiousness and simplicity. I, too, came out of a Charismatic fellowship many years ago and the primary reason for that was that much of what I was being taught just wasn’t there in scripture. I had to choose which authority to follow: my Christian mentors or the apostles of Christ. That wasn’t easy because these people were genuine believers in the basic truths of faith, but they had been taught that those basic lessons were fine, but now it was time to move into bigger and better things or “the fuller gospel.” Not everyone who holds to these ideas are intentionally trying to deceive believers. They’re just passing on bad teaching they received from other genuine believers who have also been poorly trained in scripture. This is all complicated by believing that The modern day prophet receives special revelation from God in the form of prophecy or words of wisdom because God has discovered that the original tradition He gave His apostles and sealed by the Holy Spirit somehow just wasn’t adequate enough for its intended purpose. It’s as if we could imagine Him saying, “Dog-gone-it! I forgot to tell them this and that and a whole bunch of other things. Now I have to give new revelations.” Somehow, I can’t picture God to be such an inefficient planner. So, people are taught to look within for the “still, small voice” instead of trusting scripture as fully sufficient. They don’t grow and mature because they’re expecting to receive everything they need to know through a direct, mystical telepathic illumination. Preachers, teachers, mentors and scholars who encourage this kind of thinking will soon make their ministries unnecessary. If we learn it all through direct revelation and not through solid, trustworthy biblical teaching this trouble will continue on to its logical conclusion which only damages the lives of genuine believers and contributes to the culture’s disgust with Christian proclamation.
