Hi Allen, love your work, broither, but I'm not sure about your interpretation here. In the verse immediately before, Jesus says, "HE THAT BELIEVES IN ME the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. AND whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do" (Jo 14:12-13) It seems to me that this is addressed to all believers, not just to the Apostles. The problem with the, "Jesus only meant [X] for the Apostles", interpretation is: Where do you apply, and where do you NOT apply that interpretation? You could in fact apply it to most of the recorded words of Jesus and, by that logic, 90% of what He said would be irrelevant to ordinary believers. In the same chapter, Jesus said to the Apostles: _In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you._ - John 14:2 So does that mean Jesus only went to prepare a place for the Apostles? Do the rest of us believers not have a place in heaven? _If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever._ John 14:16-17 So does the Holy Spirit only come in to the Apostles?

This, Mr. Parr, is a dangerous and slippery slope. Because I read the Bible, I understand the intention of what you're saying, but I disagree with it quite a bit. With that logic of Jesus speaking to people/disciples of a different time with a specific purpose (i.e. it not really applying to us), that can justify any of us actually not asking God to be involved in our lives/not using the Word for anything in any areas of our lives. I mean, the entire OT is essentially prophets and kings stating what God would do to (and for) the Israelites if they obeyed/disobeyed Him. For someone new to Christianity, are they to believe that these things still apply to them, since they're not Israelites? That is, do those things not apply to us as well because He was talking to a specific group of people during a specific time? When David, David's ancestors, and numerous others before and after David cried out, asked for deliverance, for famines/droughts to disappear (or to actually appear in Elijah's case), for children, asked for wisdom, asked for a king (which God granted, by the way, even though it was a disaster for the Israelites), asked for food (i.e. manna), a land of their own, homes, etc., does this mean that God will not answer us if we have a similar desire (i.e. to not be homeless, to have food in the fridge, to be free of sin, to want marriage, to have a baby, etc.) because it was for specific group of people for a specific time and for a specific purpose? Of course not. Jesus is BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER! When He was talking to the disciples, He was also there watching you (and each of us, really) be born. Time means nothing, because He exits outside of it. Yes, our desires have to line up with God's desires and His will, but the way you worded this is quite unsettling (not for me, since I am familiar with the Word, but for people who already have difficulties talking to God, or feel quite intimidated or inferior when asking God for help. After watching this, I could see how this would greatly discourage them from feeling assured that God is a Provider, Protector, Lover of One's Soul, and WANTS to hear our little silly anxieties and desires because He cares for us. After watching this, I can see how it would be harder for them to believe Jesus cares for them just as much as He did for the disciples. That, or their lives are not as important/there's nothing they can do for the Kingdom of God). Didn't Jesus also say that there are those who believe in Him that will do greater things than even He before He departed this Earth???? Meaning, when He was talking to the disciples, He had us (the future) in His mind and His plans. He always does. Yes, it's specific, but it's not exclusive to any group who believes in God Almighty.

Lacey, I’m inclined to agree with you on this one. I love what Allen does, but I don’t agree with his assessment on this. You can take any passage in the NT and make it applicable to those to whom it was addressed leaving out the rest of us. Yes, I believe He was talking directly to His disciples, but why does that exclude us? How do you determine what’s specifically slated for the 12 over any true disciple. The reasons for not seeing this scripture manifested in our lives (lack of faith, impure/selfish motives etc) would have made for a better topic of discussion. I’m currently reading “Fearless Prayer” by Craig Hazen who speaks the exact opposite of what Allen is saying, and it’s NOT laced in false prosperity ideology. I think Allen’s approach is one of conservatism which quite frankly is safe Christianity. Jesus even prays for His present and future disciples, so you’re right in saying He thought of everyone who’s a Believer.. Thank you for your response. I would love to see how/if Allen will comment. It’s worth having a healthy discussion.🤷🏾‍♂️

You seem to have a lot of anger within you. And you've written a lot of false implications. No one said God does not care about our needs or wants to listen to us. Of course He does... God allows all of us to ask anything in Jesus' Name, however, there are many people who take this statement out of context and assume God will grant them whatever they want, whenever they want. Then they become angry with God and sometimes pull away from Him when He does not grant their wishes. Just because God does not grant everything we ask, does not mean He does not care. God knows what we need better than we do. John 14:12-14 is used to be "self serving " all of the time. That is what's dangerous and that's the point of the video.

Jesus said in John 14:12, "Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in Me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father." In my opinion, I believe that this along with other passages of Scriptures mean that these promises are for us as believers who are abiding in Christ today. What matters is that they have to be in alignment with the Father's will.

Let’s not reduce God to our three point list on how He works. As mentioned in the video, people can do that and ask for a spouse and children, for example, and never receive them, yet these are very good wants, and very humble requests which could indeed glorify God and advance His Kingdom. And people will tell the petitioners, if God placed those desires within you, don’t give up or He wouldn’t have given them to you in the first place. And yet it never comes for some. *The truth is He is God.* And, as God, His ways are past finding out. And our job is to praise Him and worship Him in all things -- not understanding, not knowing, not boxing and not diminishing Him to make Him us. There is as much danger - I dare say more, as it is unbelief - in giving a three point formula in order to play it safe and say “what He didn’t mean,” as there is in believing the other end of the spectrum disavowed here that God is wildly obligated to answer all your infinite wishes as your personal genie in the bottle, and to believe for any and everything. *Again, He is GOD.* That alone tells you He *cannot* be reduced to this. May WE continue to grow in His unveiling and His revealing as HE shows us more aspects of Himself and as He continues to blow our minds as God. Amen.

So only pray if it benefits God's glory, and prayer will only work if its God's will... Whats the point of prayer then? That literally is a pointless system. If God has a will, you can't change it. If it's God's will, it will happen without you praying, or must you pray first for God's will to work?

We pray so that our will will be aligned with the Lord's will. We pray so that our trust in the Lord will grow. We pray to communicate with our father and pour out our feelings before him. See prayer like you as a child asking what you need to your earthly father. Your father knows what is best for you and sometimes what you think you need might not be the best thing for you at the moment that's how God works, and since God knows everything it's even more awesome to pray to him more

I was feeling particularly low one night and my cousin texted me out of the blue, wondering if I was all right. She was fist cousins with my mom and we ended up praying together over the phone. However God can knock you down with a verse that was to an individual in the Bible but He can burn that in your heart if it was meant for you. God can use any scripture to speak to us. It all depends on the individual. Jeremiah 33:3 Call unto me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things you know not. Just because that was told to a prophet of God does not mean you can't ask God for the same thing. God Loves His Children. He wants to bless us. I personally come to Him as a child and I really pull on His coattail if you will. God is a great provider. Again He loves you! More than anything! Ask your Father in Heaven to give you the desires of your heart. Let me say this in closing. In 60 years on this earth I have begged God for many things. I have received so many things from God it would blow your mind! Not every thing I asked for but a lot of huge things that only God could do. He worked out things that was nothing but a divine miracle. Why? Because I was persistent to my Father in Heaven. I kept asking. His coffers are full. He owns it all. My suggestion for you or anyone is 1, get right with God. Confess your sins. 2, Be consistent in prayer and reading scripture. 3, tell others about Jesus. 4, receive His blessings. Understand I AM NOT a name it and claim it person! But Bless God I am one that believes in my Father in Heaven and He DELIGHTS to help His Children. I know it is real. Don't quit! Each step I Take I KNOW He is with me. Take that to the Bank brothers and sisters. ❤✝️

Tht a great point. It starts at the beginning of the prayer , "Father in Heaven , they Will be done." To ask the Father in Christ must gravitate around God's Will. Christ will not grant anything unless it's God's will. Many ask for prosperity, the devil also wants people to succeed and prosper, (so they can rebel and say they gained it in their own.) Hopefully you can see the connection

My context - denounce the prosperity gospel, denounce word of faith movement, made many mistake in doctrine, keen to learn. I think Pastor Alan is incorrect when stating that our Lord Jesus meant His words exclusively for the apostles. This teaching is preceded by a call to remain in the vine, that the world would hate his disciples and that the promised Holy Spirit would come. My understanding is this is for all Christians; how is the scripture in question any different?

I’m seeing with all the comments that this is one of those God Breathed topics of controversy. I agree not all we request is asked to glorify God. We all are made human with so many needs or wants. We believe if we’re doing our utmost to know what His will is. By truly studying, believing, praying and growing in knowledge by the H.S. Doing all we can to seek Christ likeness in our words and deeds then the blessings must follow. To God, time is irrelevant. Our existence is seen as a blink. Suffering for Him is what, if a Christian will experience. God does promise for the true believer that there is a way of escape or relief through diversity for those who love Him. Everything in the Bible is to teach, admonish, guide and correct the believer in running and in completing achieving the prize. The prize of amazing Worship of our Father our Savior & Lord Jesus Christ. To experience the fullness of what heaven is through His Holy Spirit. Living forever with the full knowing of this verse. Eph. 2:8-10. Everything that’s everything is from God and is to be for the glory of God. As a sinner here on this earth, that is a life long pilgrimage for me.

if you have asked a prayer and it gas not been answered then evaluate the prayer because it may not be in line with God's will... If you ask anything maybe try to include " IF ITS WITHIN IN YOUR WILL" when you pray and then also when wenpray we mau not be in a right standing with God that could be the problem ... remember if we have sinned against God or even someone else we are told to go make thungs right before leaving our gift at the alter so maybe there is something that may not be exactly okay going on that needs to be resolved ... there are many reasons why our prayers can not be answered but that doesnt mean give up but instead get oser to God learn to hear His voice telling you what to do and try to resolve any ongoing issues like unforgiveness towards another person or bitterness or maybe just not being thankful for what we do have could be a problem ... Jesus said in John 14:12 “ Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in Me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.” “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. “-Mark 16:17-18

So only apostles can pray believing you recieved. Only they can do the same works and greater. Only they can ask anything in His name. Ok let's use Parr's interpretation. Now ONLY Nicodemus can be born again because that was a private convo with him and Christ. Now ONLY the Jerusalem church are only ones to bring the sick to the elders so that the prayer of faith can make them well. Now ONLY some unknown group called "those that believe" will have signs, speaking tongues and casting out demons follow them. Now ONLY the apostles can curse a fig tree and remove a mountain. Never mind the 120 people in the upper room that were NOT apostles but received power from on high. Never mind all that. Parr (its not really him but his teachers) says the proper context would apply ONLY to who it was spoken to you silly believer. What about salvation and eternal life?? Ooooh those verses apply to you today. Basically, any command and promise that does not challenge your faith and expose your unbelief may apply to you today. Other open-ended promises must be in their "proper context". Got it! You see the can of worms this interpretation opens? Parr (and like teachers) thinks Christians today with the HOLY SPIRIT are unable to know God's will and are not responsible enough to cast out demons and minister healing. Even though Christ said ANYONE who has faith can do the same works and greater. "Anyone" pertains to ONLY the Apostles. How did Paul get this power? He wasn't present at the saying! What shall we call this faith robbing rebellious doctrine that tells us to do the opposite of what God says and elevates Apostles as super Christians?

hi bro! i checked with my pastor about this explanaition, but we dont rly agree. If we apply this sentence, so that Jesus talked only to specific person to specic etc...., we should apply this to all Bible! It is possible that we just dont obtain things we ask, only cuz what we ask is not God's will for our life, maybe this passage explaine it better: John 15:7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. So if His words lives in us, we'll ask accordingly to his Will and for sure we'll ask good things, but, if it is not God's will for us, we won't obtain it. I dont know, for example, i m asking for a wife, for sure it could be in God's will and is a good thing to ask, but maybe God has a different plan for us, and He can get a better use of us if we remain single. God bless you :) im looking forward to hear from you @ THE BEAT by Allen Parr

"In its proper context," you say. Well, exactly who is it that decides that proper context, and what is it, specifically, that determines what that context is when Jesus has had hundreds of such conversations with apostles, individuals, and groups of people? I've read the Bible and its hard to always determine exactly what group of people Jesus is referring to. Despite the fact that he almost always is speaking to a Jewish audience was he speaking solely to the apostles, to all Jews or to all men? Similarly. in the Old Testament, was GOD speaking to and about different audiences? Over the years I have heard authors/"experts" claim that 'here God was speaking only of this group or that," but having read those same passages, I often didn't see any clear evidence which case was which. I mean, it could have been as some particular expert claims. But how do I KNOW that when - like in this case - there is no apparent evidence to that fact in the way it is written? Am I supposed to always just accept some pastor or author's word that this is the proper meaning or context because they say so when I don't see that? (sort of like the Catholic position that you're not smart enough to interpret the Bible). If that's the case then Bible study becomes almost impossible for the average person because everything that they plainly read could actually mean something else. In a setting where we're told that not even one dot of this word is wrong, we're regularly being told by this expert and that, that the word whatever doesn't really mean whatever, and always doesn't really mean always, and "ask me whatever" only means for the apostles (in this case), but it means all men in the other cases...... You see what I mean? It just seems that everything means something else and not what it seems apparently to mean (depending on the context, of course). It's no wonder this is considered by many to be the hardest read ever. Forget about Revelation, we can't even agree on John.

Another thing I would like to add is that when we prey and ask God for certain things, if those things are not good for us, God will not give it to us. God only gives gifts that are good to us. If you prey for marriage and a baby, and If He sees that marriage and a baby is not good for you specifically, He will not give it to you because He sees it will do more harm than good. This is another reason why some of our prayers are not answered.

Thanks so much for this fantastic teaching,Allen. I’ve been waiting for 17 years to hear this! This verse and other similar ones have been such a problem to me for exactly the reasons you mentioned, we don’t see it happening in practice. As God cannot lie, I knew there had to be a good explanation, but despite listening to many respectable bible teachers on this I have been left unsatisfied and unconvinced. This explanation absolutely hits the nail on the head. BLESS YOU!!

Then and only the will those request be honored because we and Christ will be so connected ... same energy Kinda like when someone finishes your sentences because you are alike . My immediate thought and conviction before watching this video is that whatever you ask of the LORD really needs to be in line with His will. I can see how having an intimate relationship with the LORD where you know Him through Scripture and prayer would empower someone to know what the will of the LORD is in terms of asking Him for things that would glorify Him. The main thing I learned from this video outside of what my initial thoughts and conviction was is that the portion of Scripture, John 14:14, was written to the apostles who were appointed by God to spread the kingdom of Jesus which grew into the church. Although we are given the opportunity share the gospel and our testimony by loving God and others as ourselves as followers of Christ, I can see how this is different given that as followers we are not given the office of apostles.

Not in total agreement. Jesus's words are for all those who have ears to hear. This is the reason why we don't always see what we ask for. "You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. YOU DO NOT HAVE, BECAUSE YOU DO NOT ASK. YOU ASK AND DO NOT RECEIVE, BECAUSE YOU ASK WRONGLY, TO SPEND IT ON YOUR PASSIONS." James 4:2‭-‬3

John 14:6 “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” I hear your point and also hear Derek Prince’s point when he says “in Jesus name” when removing a curse. My understanding is he had a doctorate from Cambridge and spoke Greek by age 10 and nine other languages during his adult life. I’m going to continue to say it because I’m a follower of Christ. 🙏💜

Jesus is not promising to be a personal vending machine; rather, He is encouraging confidence and faithfulness in prayer. When Jesus says to pray “in my name,” He means that we can pray in His authority. He has provided the access we need to heaven. When our requests, made in the name of His Son, further God’s purposes and kingdom, God will act on our behalf, and in the end the Father will be “glorified in the Son” (John 14:13). A good example of such a prayer is Christ’s in the garden where He prayed, “Not my will, but yours be done” (Luke 22:42). In the old American West, before the days of credit cards, a shopkeeper would maintain a ledger book recording the activities of each customer’s account and the amount owed. The business owner knew his customers well and the work in which they were involved. A customer would at times send others to the shop for him to make purchases and bring back materials needed for his home or business. Those sent in the customer’s stead (e.g., his children) would be able to receive the goods “in the name of” the account owner. But, if they tried to purchase things not in line with what the shopkeeper knew the customer needed or wanted, the purchase would be denied. Coming to God in Jesus’ name is similar to those old financial transactions. Jesus holds the account, and we are welcome to come to the Father in Jesus’ name to receive what we need. The Father willingly grants our requests because of Jesus’ standing. Of course, if we are asking for things that we don’t need or that are contrary to the character or will of Christ, then we cannot expect to receive those things (see James 4:3).

Thanks to those who disagree.l, I was hoping I wasn’t the only one who respectfully has to disagree. If we don’t believe God can use us to do even greater things then it won’t happen. “ And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. “-Mark 16:17-18

Here my Hypothesis: Jesus Words: “If You remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish; and it will be done for you” A theory I have is that Jesus words has to be apart of me,( I have to remain in his words in thought in speech, etc…. ) If I do this whatever I ask in his name will be done. The testing I’m doing is on myself using these factors. I truly believe this. Faith is so important and the words, the words are EVERYTHING. Jesus words are living so therefore asking in his name without his words in me = Dead. Living words are major in asking; Everything else is Dead (this include my own personal thoughts) In conclusion: JESUS WORDS ONLY MATTER

I would like to hear your thoughts on Hebrews 6:4-6. Particularly, this phrase: "For it is impossible in the case of those who have once been enlightened [...] to restore them again to repentance." I ask for two reasons: 1) My own wife used to be a minister and, due to many bad things that happened to her in (because of?) the church, she is no longer following Christ. and 2) I don't believe ANYONE is beyond redemption. Not my wife, not anyone. If you have breath, you can come back a la the "lost" parables of Luke 15, Ezekiel 33:13-16, Nehemiah 9, and more.

Time and time again in the Bible it is the faith and belief of people that gave them access to the miraculous work of Jesus Christ. I have seen the lame walk, I have seen people get up out of their wheelchairs and walk I have laid my hands on people and they receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost. I have cast out demons in Jesus name and I’ve seen this happen time and time again from childhood at different church and through pastors and ministers. It’s time that we start believing in the power of the Holy Ghost and not just speaking and having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof that the Bible talks about so clearly Brother Allen I think this is a very dangerous thing you are doing persuading these people not to have faith that God can use them to perform miracles signs and wonders, which the Bible clearly states we have access to. I understand if you don’t believe it but you should not encourage others not to believe either. The Bible is a spiritual book and it must be read through the eyes of the Holy Spirit leading us. It is a book of faith. Not just leaning on our own understanding. I personally think you should make another video explaining your disbelief in the miraculous laying of hands and healing of the sick. In Ezekiel the Bible talks about pastors healing the sick and not leading the sheep astray. Thank you for your attempt to explain the gospel but we have to be very careful and make sure we are speaking truth not just our opinions. Ask the Holy Spirit for His direction to interpret his word. God bless you. People you need to pick up the Bible and read it and stop depending on man to interpret the Bible for us. Just read through the book of Acts the disciples were making disciples and those disciples were making other disciples and they were all healing and laying hands on the sick and being delivered of all kind of sickness and diseases and casting out of demons. Read the Bible yourself and ask the Lord for wisdom and understanding. If we don’t believe God can use us to do greater things then it won’t happen. Jesus said in John 14:12 “ Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in Me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.” “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall lay hands on the sick and they shall be healed

My interpretation is jesus meant that we all are gods and godesses. If u ask any question your GODLY brain knows the answer but u need to ask using ur 1st name n 2nd name and your brain brings the answer. Our brains require tranquility to make godly miracles. Everybody has the power jesus had. God did not create man in gods image instead man created god in mans image (as a stature) as an idol to worship back in the days. Every thing that exists is created by man and woman. Everything was an idea then it became physical tangible including myself. I was an idea/THOUGHT and theN i am tangible. HOPE THIS HELPS PEO0LE WHO DO NOT KNOW.

The disciples did not live in the perfect will of God. Peter tried to prevent thr crucifixion. Thomas doubted the resurrection, which was foretold. Judas betrayed him. And the disciples had doctrinal disagreements. Also, we are all called to be his disciples, and other texts show prayer as being generally effective for righteous people, and that righteousness comes from believing God.

Jesus said ◄ John 14:3 ► And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. he was talking to the disciples, but now there are disciples of many nations not just the 12. Matthew 28:19-20 “ Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” So god is talking to All his disciples...
