The Beatles

8 жыл бұрын

The Beatles performing "Don't Let Me Down.”
Written by John as an expression of his love for Yoko Ono, the song is heartfelt and passionate. As John told Rolling Stone magazine in 1970, “When it gets down to it, when you’re drowning, you don’t say, ‘I would be incredibly pleased if someone would have the foresight to notice me drowning and come and help me,’ you just scream.”
During filming on the roof of Apple, two days after the recording of the track, the band played ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ right after doing two versions of 'Get Back’ and it led straight into 'I’ve Got A Feeling’. Michael Lindsay-Hogg was once again directing a Beatles’ shoot. He and Paul met regularly at the tail end of 1968, while Hogg was directing The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus, to discuss the filming of The Beatles’ session in January. By the time that fateful Thursday came around, the penultimate day of January would be the last time The Beatles ever played together in front of any kind of audience.
This is not the version of ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ heard on the single but the version from the Let It Be… Naked album - a composite of both versions that were performed on the roof of Apple in Savile Row

Certainly not live. Still historic though. Live performances were a lot poorer quality audio back then, not that they couldn't pull it off though

@@slimva6547 It is live actually. Although it is slightly edited here. This song was performed twice on the rooftop and this video is mostly the better first version. Lennon messed up the vocals on the third verse and that line has been replaced with a bit of the second version here. The full unedited first version has now been released on the new box set.

This video kills me. They all knew it was over by then. Yet. The looks they gave each other. The happiness. The joy of making music one last time even though it was the end. It's one of the most profound pure emotional segments in history that, I don't know how to word it. It kills me. Love it!!!

@marcuspi999
@marcuspi999 7 жыл бұрын
+Nicole Barret It was their last performance. They hadn't been on tour since 1966. They were a studio band by then and didn't play concerts. It's obvious that this made them feel good again because it was just them up there playing music together like it used to be. No egos fighting for their creative input. But as far as the breakup later that year every member has said that they pretty much knew it was over. There were constant fights between John and Paul. John knew for sure. He's the one that broke and announced he was quitting. Just one of those things.

Marcus Irwin oh that's quite sad Actually I thought that they all got on good Well anyway all good things must come to an end
@marcuspi999
@marcuspi999 7 жыл бұрын
+Nicole Barrett I think they all stayed friends. It was really more like sibling rivalry. It was mainly John and Paul. George and Ringo kind of just said that they were just sick of John and Paul fighting. Also, they were pretty lost when Brian Epstein died of a drug overdose. John was always the leader of the band, but ever since Sgt. Pepper, Paul started taking the reins quite a bit more. You know, just tensions between strong willed creative geniuses. Of course, don't forget Yoko. They were like 4 brothers and then all of a sudden John starts bringing this weird woman to their writing and performing sessions who wasn't shy about giving her opinions about their actual creative process. I can't even imagine how awful that must have been for the other three, especially Paul. What a complete nightmare. So, yeah. Quite sad. So for all of that, it's why people watch this little roof top concert with such reverence. By the way, you're British, aren't you?

In August 1970, McCartney began steps to dissolve the Beatles' partnership, arguing his financial and artistic freedom was infringed." first thing that comes up form google

Real Beatles fans know Paul's bass skill.. And real Beatles fans who know anything about music know how good most of his bass lines are.. They may not be the most complex, but they are unique and original and his understanding of music and so many other instruments gave him the ability to play the bass flawlessly and put together so many different riffs and sounds on even routine tracks.

@@m.e.d.7997 Very true. As much as I'm a John guy first (Still love Paul though too) it sucks that Paul was so hell bent on keeping the band together and John was so hell bent on leaving.

One peculiar day in the heart of New York City, John Lennon found himself strolling through Central Park when he noticed a strikingly familiar face. To his amazement, he encountered someone who not only looked exactly like him but also shared the same name - John Lennon. Intrigued and amused, the two Johns exchanged puzzled glances before breaking into laughter at the uncanny resemblance. They decided to grab a coffee and chat, discovering they had eerily similar tastes in music, art, and even fashion. The chance meeting sparked an unexpected friendship between the original John Lennon and his doppelganger. As they explored the city together, the two Johns navigated the streets with amused onlookers, who couldn't believe their eyes. The duo even played a prank on some fans, pretending that they were a reunited Lennon in disguise. The spontaneous encounter turned into a surreal adventure, blending reality and a touch of the absurd, leaving both Johns with a tale to tell and a friendship that transcended the boundaries of ordinary coincidences.

Sadly it doesn't, love will end up in her cheating on you, and your love. There is a reason why this song is called don't let me down as this is sadly the most likely outcome

@@theundertaker5963 I get where you're coming from, but I meant the love I have for the Beatles. People can be a lot of things including cheaters and abusers (my ex was both), but I want to believe that there are those who don't treat you as someone replaceable. At least, that's what is left of the optimist in me thinks. Anyway, these guys have given me a lot, taught me how to speak English and have been a great source of inspiration
