As a general base rule here in the midwest, finished home construction cost starts out at around $200.00 per square foot per floor or story. That does not include the cost of the lot, sewer connection, water connection, or if your electric feed is trenched in to the house.

@@2010mtaylor1 No, nor the utilities, designing, permits and all sorts of other potential costs dependent on local codes and restrictions. The house in this video is a really nice high end custom. Nothing about this kind of job is cheap. Everyone involved has to be the very best to do the job right and they know what they're worth. The materials that are being used are extraordinarily expensive. That kitchen easily had somewhere between 50 to 100,000 dollars in cabinets in it. The millwork, from what I could see, is all hardwood, even the painted stuff. All that stone on the front is expensive. Right now, in my area, if someone asked me what it would cost to build a custom house, I would tell them that, depending on a lot of final decisions regarding all the various finishes and mechanical systems, they would be somewhere between $250 to $300 a square foot. That's just for the building. It could go a whole lot higher but not a whole lot lower. I've been out of the business for four years now so I could be low on that estimate.

So, this actually poses a nice example of there being technically 2 ground floors. The basement has a walk out area at its ground level. While it can still be called a basement and for all intents and purposes, it is, it does beg the question which ground is exactly is ground level. Since you lot in the UK don't usually have basements nor many extreme slopes, it's not common enough to really distinguish ground floor hierarchy.

Not only do prices vary state by state, but they also vary greatly within the state. Illinois has some expensive areas, mostly around Chicago, but the same house outside those expensive areas could cost half as much, or anything in-between. Illinois is a vertical state with the North dominated by Chicago, but go way downstate and it's almost entirely rural (and less expensive). And all that variation without even leaving the state!

How much? It's hard to say, but a lot depends on the neighborhood. A big part of the cost of the house is the quality and price of windows. doors, fixtures, flooring, cabinets, sinks, tubs, vanities, etc.. Even a very modest looking home can get quite pricey if everything in it is high priced. One thing that bumps the price WAY up on that house is the stonework. Stone veneers are very expensive compared to siding and even brick.

Often stuffed with cheap central air and heating systems.

That's a big house! My guess in terms of size is at least 6000 Square Feet of living space. Here in the Charlotte suburbs, that house will cost at least $ 1.8 million...and will take at least 6 months to build. Americans of my generation would look at such a home and it's hi cost as something they would work hard to achieve..that such an acquisition is very possible no matter who you are and where you come from. This is a mindset that is uniquely American as we are raised to believe that if you work hard enough and save, save save.., anything is possible. Of course our country is huge when compared to the UK and Jersey, so we do have alot of open space to develop..which helps keep the costs of land manageable. 20 years ago, you could have purchased a similar sized home here in the South East for around $ 5-600,000...but times have changed. In 2009, we bought a 5 bedroom, 3.5 bathroom house with no basement but a 2 car garage, total size: 3400 SF and it only cost $ 400k..Here, real estate is mostly listed by it's size..ie, square feet of living space..and each region of the country will have it's own SF selling price, depending on demand,...I can assure you that the houses built by Perkins Builder Brothers will come in at lower cost per SF than those here in Charlotte..They are more rural so the demand isn't as high...Bryson City, NC is where they are.. I truly hope that you guys will earn enough from your KZbin channels so that you can buy one of these beautiful homes for yourselves! You deserve it!
