I love this song! This is like some Beach Boys level stuff here with the beautiful harmonies. And the chorus - "I think I love you/I think I've loved you the whole time" - is so simple and so true. Might be my favorite song of 2020 so far! No idea what a jump rope gazer is, though.
@DanCaporello2 жыл бұрын
I had to google what a "jump rope gazer" is. I'll share my findings. It's a phrase she made up that's largely open to interpretation, but her intention was to invoke feelings of being a kid in motion, staring at your partner while you both swing one end of a jump rope. It's such a beautiful meaningless lyric that I hold dear.

*_LYRICS_* [Verse 1] I've never been the dramatic type But if I don't see your face tonight I, I guess I'll be fine [Verse 2] High, highlighting hard between the lines But they're getting closer every time I try, decipher the signs [Pre-Chorus] Like we're slowing comin' together Yeah, it's slowly comin' out About us [Chorus] Oh, I, I think I love you And I think that I loved you the whole time How could this happen? We were jump rope gazers in the middle of the night [Verse 3] Hide my heart behind a brighter light So you struggle, straining eyes to find Why we made it this way [Verse 4] Stay, my hopes are prone to elevate The way your mind and mine relate It breaks the patterns we make [Pre-Chorus] Still, we're slowly comin' together Yeah, it's slowly comin' out But it's only for a second Then it is all is crumbling down Around us [Chorus] Oh, I, I think I love you And I think that I loved you the whole time How could this happen? We were jump rope gazers in the middle of the night I think I love you And I, I wanna give it my best try How could this happen? We were jump rope gazers [Bridge] Oh, I remember watching the waves rollin' in Numbered in the thousands, collect, break up again I was just waitin' for the grazes on my hands to mend I was afraid of the sting [Instrumental Break] [Chorus] Oh, ooh, I think I love you And I think that I loved you the whole time How could this happen? We were jump rope gazers in the middle of the night I think I love you And I, I wanna give it my best try How could this happen? We were jump rope gazers Oh, oh genius.com

Someone mentioned The Sundays on another Beths video, so I put em through the ringer a bit, and it feels to me like the difference between them and The Beths is like the difference between Pet Sounds and a Beatles album: For all I know, The Beach Boys could be technically superior, but I think most people just wanna hear a f*ckin sick tune.
