📖 Follow along with the official Bible in a Year Reading Plan: tinyurl.com/yd...
Today we discover how the Passover foreshadows the sacrifice of Jesus and how the people of Israel are transformed by God in the readings from Exodus 12, Leviticus 9, and Psalm 114.
We hear everyday from our community how The Bible in a Year helps to capture hearts and souls for Christ. While we’re happy to make it free to our audience, it’s not free to create! I am so glad you have joined RCIA. There will be rejoicing in Heaven - seriously! More than you can imagine. I hope you have a blessed journey finding Jesus and your eternal salvation. It is so worth the journey and the effort. One of the biggest things to get a handle on is the spiritual battle. The devil does NOT want you doing this. You need to be able to spot where he is trying to misdirect you, and discourage you. Remember God knew you at the moment of creation; He loves you more that you could possibly ever know; Jesus loves us all so much that not only did He die on the Cross for us He would have endured that for you alone. Jesus laid hands on Simon, called him Peter, and created the Catholic Church. Every priest bishop and pope has hands laid on them by another that goes back to Jesus creating this Church. Following the Protestant reformation the Christianity is so divided there are now 45000 Christian religions. Each differ in some way and that is how the devil works. The main damage these religions do is to take away Mary who is our greatest ally and intercessor in getting to Jesus. They take away Holy images so that we are not reminded of God or to have sacramentals that keep our Saviour close. Stay the course! You are on the right journey. It is not easy but eternity is worth every step. May God Bless you abundantly!

@@suzannemcmaken4648 I don't know if you are a victim of, or just an advocate for the evil one, but perhaps you could start by looking at the Catholic miracles. The Shroud of Turin, the Tilma of Guadaloupe, the Miracle at Fatima, the Eucharistic miracles especially the ones in Lanciano and in Buenos Aires. These and countless more, happen to Catholics. The ones listed have scientific backing. Protestants don't hear about them. I hope all people find Jesus and eternal salvation, including you, but the easiest way to God is with the Church created by Jesus Himself 2000 years ago. I hope you will pray on this before preying on someone trying to find salvation.

Just in case suzanne does get to you, her teacher Andrew Farley is a menace. He teaches amongst other things that we do not need to seek forgiveness for our sins. See Luke 11:2-4. The words our Saviour gave us call on us to forgive others and seek forgiveness from God for our sins. The followers of Farley will be horribly disappointed when they find out it is the devil who wants us to not seek forgiveness from God the Father for our sins. He has created a so called Naked Gospel. Have a look at how St Paul dealt with these types of false teachers in Galatians 1:6-10. (As I said before, you are in a spiritual battle.Find the prayers that will provide you protection. The St Michael prayer is an excellent way to start every day. )

I love how Fr. Mike explains the logic, symbolism and the emotions behind even the smallest things from the Bible. It's true that God is just and we must not forget God's mercy when it comes to not destroying the just and also when it comes to giving an opportunity to repent. Pharaoh's unrepented cruelty towards the children of God and their slavery caused this to happen. God still had provided many opportunities to have this stopped by letting the children of God go. The symbolism of the sacrificial lamb is significant. People of Israel/Jacob sacrificed the lamb after a week so everyone can get an opportunity to be a part of the covenant and also so that the people learn to give up things they care about such as the lamb. It's similar to how Abraham was willing to sacrifice his only son when asked by God. It's also similar to how God willingly sacrificed Jesus for the good of the world. Baptism is a kinder and graceful new way of becoming a part of the new covenant thanks to the Lord Jesus Christ and the Eucharist is the new bread of life. The customs explained in the book of Leviticus and the Passover part of the scripture are not only about holy traditions but also about food safety and hygiene. That's why there are restrictions like not eating any meat that is stale, or strange. There is a lot of logic behind everything and a lot of connections to the New Testament as well as the modern traditions. We only find out thanks to the well researched and well explained episodes of this podcast. Thank you so much, Fr. Mike and Team Ascension! God bless you and the fellow listeners!

Day 34 of BIY is totally worth every minute of the podcast because Father Mike explains how the Passover foreshadows the sacrifice of Jesus. It is true that flesh of the lamb was to be consumed and the blood of the lamb was put on the doorposts and lentles which covers the names of the owner of the house. Therefore the blood of Jesus Christ who is the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world protects us and as we consume His flesh in the Holy Eucharist we have eternal life. ❤

Day 34 - The final plague. Death of the Firstborn & institution of Passover. Books & books have been written on comparing every aspect of the Passover to the sacrifice of Christ on the cross. Christ is THE Lamb of God. The One Abraham told Isaac that God would provide, even though at that time he provided a ram. The blood of the lamb whose blood preserved them from the Angel of Death. The flesh of the lamb that nourished them for the journey. What profound typology of our Passover Lamb who takes away the sin of the world & saves our soul. I find it amazing & comforting, too, that God had told Abraham exactly what would happen, how long they would be exiled & enslaved, & how they would leave “with great wealth.”Genesis 15:13-16.

It’s very sad that cradle Catholics aren’t taught this and aren’t directed toward sources where we can learn more in depth. I feel that many parishes and priests don’t direct the parishioners to sources and leave it up to us to seek it. Most of us, won’t seek it and think we’re fed enough at mass. There’s no such thing as enough when it comes to learning more about scripture, our Lord, and the catholic faith.

@suzannemcmaken4648
@suzannemcmaken4648 2 жыл бұрын
@@EJ-gx9hl Correct. No mention of a trinity because the apostles didn’t think, obviously, it was important to mention. But, some fellas a few hundred years later decide to come up with their idea, their concept, of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and we are all obligated to believe it, as thought anyone could explain the profundity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. At least the apostles had the humility to realize the omniscient, incomparable God of the universe could never be explained and put in a neat little box. Sola Scriptura means that the Word of God is the final AUTHORITY on spiritual truth. Who has final authority in your mind? Those sinful men dressed up in vestments? They have final authority over your spiritual beliefs?! Regarding traditions, Paul mentions traditions. What traditions are Roman Catholics obligated to follow? Jesus spoke in figurative language. In metaphors. Jesus said He was the Vine and believers are the branches. Was Jesus a green vine with a stem sticking out of His head? Were the believers green branches? THINK. JOHN 6:35. “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall NEVER hunger, and he who believes in Me will NEVER thirst.” Now, tell me. Was that figurative language, or did He mean you would actually NEVER thirst, or NEVER hunger again, because I am quite sure you had something to eat this morning and coffee to drink in spite of gobbling down a few thousand wafers in your lifetime. Please point me to the biblical book, chapter, and verse, of an actual presence of a God’s body, blood, and divinity in a wafer. Oh, typology. That’s the NEW THING created to justify those false doctrines like Mary being the “New Ark of the covenant.” What blasphemy! In all the decades of being a Roman Catholic, and attending Roman Catholic schools for twelve years, NEVER did a priest use that word. Now, it’s all the rage.
@EJ-gx9hl
@EJ-gx9hl 2 жыл бұрын
@@suzannemcmaken4648 sola means only. Sola scriptura means only authority, not final. If the traditions you think Roman Catholics are obligated to follow such as praying the rosary or praying to Mary and the saints, then you have a misconception. Those are traditions but not obligatory nor dogma. Jesus did speak in figurative language but He reiterated the bread of life discourse in John 6. Go further down, about 25 verses in John 6 from what you wrote. And when something is reiterated then it must be for a reason. I’m not sure how knowledgeable you are regarding the Eucharistic miracles but it’d be something interesting to look at. Also when Jesus said He is the vine and that the Father cuts off any branches that don’t bear fruit, that seems to mean that once saved always saved isn’t applicable. If something happens in the OT and a similar even occurs in the NT then does that mean the NT writers were just trying to manipulate the scriptures to their liking in hopes that future readers would see something that’s not there? Weren’t the writers of the OT and NT inspired by the Holy Spirit? I was never a student in a catholic school nor did I pay attention in mass, so I can’t say anything about whether or not the word typology was ever used frequently in the past and granted that it is mostly used by apologists whom aren’t clerical members at least from my experience but clerics do agree with it. As a person who enjoys listening to arguments from Catholics and non-Catholics, I had the desire to leave Catholicism at one point (well personally I had left the faith nearly altogether but that’s a whole other thing) but something kept calling me back and kept me from leaving it. Listen, Catholics and non-Catholics have gone centuries in not agreeing on things and it’ll continue till who knows when. The fact is we need to instead be more open to listen to one another in constructive and effective dialogue and realize that we all believe in Jesus as our Lord and savior and that we are saved by grace through faith.

This series has been such a blessing. Thank you so much father for sharing the word of God with us, and for facilitating our understanding of it. The wisdom in your commentary, which likely was only possible through the lengthy study of scripture; history; theology; philosophy; and more, is invaluable. My only wish would be that you would not cut yourself off as much as you do in your commentary. But I realize you probably do it to keep the episodes short enough and create a daily consistency in prayer and listening to scripture. God bless you.

There was a FINAL sacrifice of the Lamb, and that was on the cross, whereby ALL sins were forgiven and the sins of mankind were forgiven forever and remembered no more. “I will forgive their inequities and remember their sins NO MORE.” Hebrews 8:12. Therefore, there is no need for altars, Roman Catholic priests, or a so called sacrifice of Jesus in an conveniently unbloody manner. Christ’s body rose in three and rests at the right hand of the Father and there He stays. He doesn’t return to earth to be imbued in wafers and eaten. The Second Coming is yet to come. And, when He returns He will be on a white horse named Faithful and True, eyes ablazed, a sword in His mouth, waging wars. He doesn’t return in a wimpy wafer. What an insult. The Jewish tradition of sacrificing bulls and goats for the atonement of sins has been made obsolete and we are now in a NEW Testament, and under grace, because Jesus was the propitiation for sin, not just an atonement. 1 Peter 3:18. Romans 6:10. Hebrews 9:26. The sin debt has been paid and made the believer perfect forever. “By ONE sacrifice He has made PERFECT FOREVER those who are being sanctified.” Hebrews 10:14. You are being deceived.

Oh there is so much here. The imagery of the lamb, lamb's blood, our Jesus as the Lamb, our eating of the unleavened bread, the sacrifice of the Mass, an ancient old sacrifice made new. Anyway, thanks Fr. Mike! When I go to Mass this morning and receive the sacrament, I will be refreshed and made new. God Bless you!!

Great commentary & explanation Father Mike!! I could keep listening & listening some more. You have a gift in guiding us through Scripture. I need this in my life at this time. Born & raised Catholic, belonged to Cursillo & Challenge movement, Catholic Charismatic Renewal, etc. I've read much of the Bible -- but not much focus on the Old Testament. Everyday I'm learning and I'm relating things to my own life. It is a gigantic blessing from God 🙌 Thank You for all you do & God Bless ✝️🙏 from Cape Breton Island, Canada

Day 34 Lord Jesus, You are the Lamb of God. Just as the Isrselites sacrificed a spotless lamb during the first Passover, and were saved from the angel of death, so also You were crucified and shed Your precious to save us from a spiritual death. Thank You my Jesus, Lamb of God. Amen

Father, YOU are the gift! I have a tendency of putting you, and all priests, on a pedestal. However, you are so humble and human, plus a people-person. God loves you, and we all love you. Thank you for your Ministry.

Don’t put priests or anyone on pedestals because once they disappoint you, it’ll be hard to get past it. I had my issues with Catholicism because of the scandals of priests because I thought they were supposed to be above the rest of us. Little did I know that they’re just like us. A good priest will admit to being a sinner and his need for going to confession and will not portray himself as holier than thou and self righteous.

I really love learning about the ways that the culture at the time ties in with the symbolism of the act in the Bible, like the names above people’s doors and the blood of the lamb. It’s cool to tie in what happens in the Bible with historical/cultural significance and what it meant in context, that isn’t acknowledged very often.

I feel like this is also a metaphor for judgement day. Like pharaoh, even if we receive signs from the Lord, we tend to say things like I’ll do it later, or not now, so by the time it is too late, all will have no hope because God always fulfill His promises. I pray that all of us will turn to God and put our will on His. Amen.

Once again, this podcast is revealing a lot of parallels between the Old Testament with the New Testament and modern worship that I completely missed on earlier readings. I really appreciate your commentary on these chapters. Exodus 12 has God instructing Moses about the proceedings of Passover that the Israelites are to follow. On the tenth day of this month, the Israelites are instructed to take an unblemished lamb and invite it into their house for a week and then kill it on the fourteenth day before smearing its blood on the doorposts of their house. Afterwards they must feast on unleavened bread. If the Israelites follow this procedure, the Lord will pass over their house while striking down the first-born child of every family throughout Egypt. God instructs the Israelites to observe this festival every year forever by eating unleavened bread for seven days. Moses gathers the elders of Israel to help prepare for the first Passover. The Israelites comply and God fulfills His promise by sparing them from the plague. At this point, Pharaoh instructs Moses and Aaron to take the Israelites and leave. As they leave, they take treasures from their neighbors, effectively plundering the Egyptians. Over 600,000 Israelite men travel with Moses, leaving Egypt for the first time in over 400 years. The Lord instructs Moses that only circumcised men may participate in the Passover. As you mentioned, this plague seems cruel but because it is the Lord's work it must be just. Like you mentioned, according to the fate of Sodom and Gomorrah, God spares the righteous so it is likely that the God-fearing and repentant Egyptians were spared from the plague. Like you mentioned, Jesus, the Son of God, is the true Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world and it is His sacrifice that signifies the Passover sacrifice of the New Covenant. By taking the lamb in for seven days and sacrificing it, the Israelites showed their trust in God, just as we must glorify God in the name of the sacrifice of the Lord. I also appreciated your discussion of God's instructions that only circumcised men should participate and how it is similar to the nature of the Catholic Eucharist. I grew up protestant and have recently attended Catholic Mass. Catholic family and friends have told me that I should not participate in the Eucharist until I get confirmed Catholic. Wow, like you said, there's a lot more to this chapter than I anticipated. Leviticus 9 shows more of God instructing Aaron about the consecration of the Levitical priests. Aaron atones for his sins by obeying the sin offering so that God can show His glory. Aaron offers a sacrifice for himself and for the behalf of the people. As a result, God blesses Israel with His glory. Like you said the other day, when we open our heart to the Lord, His glory will shine through. Just as the Israelites covered their names with the lamb's blood, we may be covered by the blood of our Lord so that we can glorify God. Psalm 114 is the Song of Exodus that recounts God delivering the Israelites from Egypt. The Psalm tells of God's incredible acts such as parting the Red Sea for the Israelites to leave Egypt. As a result, the Earth trembles at the presence of the Lord. As Exodus has shown, God cares for His people and He is always with us. Day 34 - 2/3/2022
