@@marcihf217 My group is doing the Book of Exodus in the Catholic Scripture Study International series this year. We are doing Ex. Chap 18 tonight. This point of the Egyptian gods is a perfect case proving Scripture is not self explaining. Bear it in mind if anybody tries to push that concept on you. Without non-biblical sources there is no way you would figure out the 10 gods of Egypt from the Bible alone.

I've often thought, and once again going through the ten plagues. There had to be Egyptians that after maybe the 3rd plague, said to themselves we need to repent and believe what the Hebrew God of the Israelite's is the truth and offers life. As like today, there's people that see the evil that's in our society and ask Lord of Heaven, turn our hearts towards you and do what's pleasing in your sight..have mercy on us!! Day 33 - The plagues are about to reach their peak with the death of the 1st born of humans & animals. The plagues aren’t haphazard demonstrations of God’s power, but were designed by God to show His power over the false gods of the Egyptians. We must examine ourselves & see if we’ve acquired our own false gods. Are we committed to anything more than God? Work? Our family? Acquiring wealth? Anything? These are false gods & we’re guilty of idolatry if so.🙏❤️

This is the first time I realized that those 10 plagues were related to overcoming 10 false Egypt gods! Hapi- river of blood, Heket- frog, Geb- lice, Khepri- flies, Ra the Sun god- Darkness.... The Lord God overcame all of the false idols. These events not only showed the truth of one Heavenly God to Egyptians but also reminded the seed of Abraham. We must not forget God and allow other idols or goals to take priority. Also, the issue of worship is important. God doesn't want sacrifices for Himself but as a token of thanks or faith. The analysis of the book of Leviticus is true. It is an important book that shares details of ancient priesthood and how it relates to the modern mass. Loved the final questions too. Are we giving God what He wants and worshiping the way He wants? Are we prioritizing God? Let's be good children and honor Him! Thank you so much for this, Fr. Mike and Team Ascension. There is a dining experience in London where you eat in the dark, the whole thing is conducted in black out mode. It would seem that the Egyptians started this trend some years ago, ha. What is funny though with the advent of Valentines day they are marketing it as a romantic evening. Not sure I would agree, probably miss my mouth and end up wearing most of it ! I'm very much enjoying these readings and your teachings. I haven't looked much at a bible in decades. I, do, however recall that in my Bible, which was gifted to me by my Mom, which came from the Anglican church and most of which I did read, the instructions were written in that version as: Take with you all the silver and gold. It was not so nicely couched with "ask for" silver and gold. I would love to find a Bible that I can trust to be accurate ... though I have doubts that there is one; either in existence or available to the masses.

I just love Exodus 10 v23 where it talks about the Israelites having light in their dwellings, despite all Egypt covered in darkness, we can have this supernatural light in the darkness of this world, praise God. I did not know about the plagues linking to Egyptian Gods, splendid thanks !

We need the Holy Spirit to have understanding. "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, " John 14:26 When we are born again we receive the Holy Spirit and our "eyes" are opened. Before it was hard to understand but now that I have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit it all opened up to me, praise God! I’ve been reading the Bible on my own for the second time in my life and one of the things that happens often is I will come to a passage that’s kind of confusing or I might read a passage that I have no clue what it’s referencing. Many times reading the Bible is tough. I stumbled upon this website and it is excellent. I think I’m gonna start watching each episode every day via this method. I’m probably gonna buy the same version Bible he’s reading from and follow along myself. This is really awesome. I love his brief commentary of what we just read. I’ve never been able to capitalize on having a Priest (and a Priest in Union with the chair of Saint Peter) summarize what Ive just read .. Thank you, Father.

Wow, I really appreciated the commentary for these chapters, they really changed my understanding of these stories. Exodus 10 shows God ordering Moses to warn Pharaoh of another plague as Pharaoh's heart has hardened once again. Moses warns of a plague of locusts which will devastate the harvest and fill the homes of the Egyptians. At this point, the Egyptian officials beg Pharaoh to release the Israelites. Pharaoh refuses so Egypt is plagued again. Pharaoh confesses his sin and Moses prays, ending the plague. God has Moses stretch his hand toward heaven resulting in Egypt being covered in darkness for three days. The Israelites still have light while the Egyptians are blinded by darkness. Pharaoh says the Israelites can leave to worship but they must leave their livestock behind. Moses refuses. Exodus 11 tells Moses' warning to Pharaoh of the final plague. Before the plague, Moses instructs the Israelites to ask the Egyptians for treasures when they leave. Moses warns Pharaoh that at midnight, God will kill every firstborn child of every Egyptian, human and livestock alike. Moses says the Israelites will remain unharmed in the midst of this plague. I cannot believe I never realized the 10 plagues in Exodus correspond to the 10 false pagan gods of Egypt. Like you said, I think God used these plagues to show his dominion and his dominance over all the false gods of Egypt and therefore to show that He is the one true Lord. I also appreciated your explanation of freedom to worship. The God-fearing Israelites did not merely seek freedom from Pharaoh, they sought freedom to worship God in the way He intended. It is important that I always find time to worship the Lord so I do not allow myself to be dominated by lesser burdens of life such as idolatry. Leviticus 8 shows Moses instructing the Levites at the Tabernacle at the instruction of God. Moses washes the Levitical priests. Then he anoints them according to God's commands. The priests prepare the sacrifices of the sin offering and the burnt offering. The priests are consecrated for the next seven days within the Tabernacle. I appreciated your explanation of how this story shows the aftermath of the incident with the pagan golden calf at Mount Sinai. The Israelites gave in to the sin of idolatry and needed to be purified so that they could worship God. I pray that I will never give into the temptation of idolatry and will instead use my life to glorify God. Psalm 50 proclaims that the Lord is coming with His Judgment. God rebukes their ritual offerings for He has dominion over all creatures throughout the land. God rebukes the sinful disobedience of the people. God seeks to deliver us from idolatry so that we can worship Him the way he intends. Thanks be to God! Day 33 - 2/2/2022
