THANK YOU! I wake up at 4:00 am and the first thing I do is listen to the current day in the Bible. I have never read the Bible from the beginning because it was too confusing for me, but you make it so interesting! I grew up as a Baptist and converted to Catholicism when I was twenty-two years old. God kept calling me to be a Catholic and so answered Him and I have been grateful for my deep Catholic Faith ever since. I LOVE my mornings with you, Father Schmitz. Thank you, for this nourishment.

Thank you for doing this Bible in a year! If you're curious, I know why we think of Nimrod as an insult. Bugs Bunny sarcastically called Elmer Fudd "Nimrod", and people didn't understand the reference, so it became an insult.

I was introduced to your podcast by two ladies that I met at random. of course, we know how the Lord works, nothing is ever random. I've been away from God for so long and was living an extremely sinful lifestyle. I've been loving this podcast ever since. A little personal background: a friend of mine witnessed to me and helped me repent and once again accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I don't read my romance novels anymore. I don't swear. I don't tell off color jokes. I don't share any questionable or inappropriate memes. I've given up most social media except the bare minimum for networking purposes. I recently bought a new Bible that is a version of one that I had years ago and I can't wait to get back into it. Until then, I have this podcast and the King James Version in audiobook form on my phone. Thank you again. Praise God!

I remember the name Nimrod being used as a pejorative and intended to say that someone was stupid. As you were explaining these two chapters, I realized that the slang came from a truth. Didn't the tower of Babel fall? If Nimrod was pursuing power and fame which is opposed to God's wishes for us, and the tower he built fell as a result, it was a 'stupid' path - wasn't it? It seems to me that perhaps calling someone a Nimrod could have been a warning that if they stayed on their current path they would experience ultimate failure. 🤔🤷♀ I am really enjoying these Bible study sessions with you and am looking forward to learning more!! Thank you so much 🙏🙏

It is interesting that the Tower of Babel in the Bible was mentioned briefly, yet so many books and videos were published about it. One video I found interesting was when God scattered the people, they tried to recreate the tower again; we can find these remnants of ancient towers from around the world, most notably the Inca, Aztecs, and Egyptians.

This does not seem relevant to todays reading but this is what the Lord ministered to me as I listened: Today I was reminded of a scripture that was read to me many years ago, that God can turn all things for good" I was outraged when I heard this because I thought how can he take the terrible abuse I experienced and turn it for good. As I listened today I was remined of that and my heart was deeply moved as I look back over the years and see how God Jesus Holy Spirit helped me overcome the abuse, it no longer hurts me, I was crippled by its affects but I am not any more, God has allowed me the prilivege to minister to others out of my experience. What was meant to destroy me, and it nearly did, God has truly taken it and turned it for good. The other thing I got from today was that I have desired to be a great Saint for a long time but I as I listened I realised that a lot of the motivation was that I would be considered great (my glory) I used to feel so bad about that but Jesus revelaed to me today that the motivation was a deep desire in me to feel significant, this is Gods mercy - he lets me see my sin - my desire to be great, but he lets me see that the desire to feel significant (something abuse takes away from you) can go away because I am significent to Jesus and that sort of significant satisfies the very soul in me so I lay that down now Lord, I confess it as sin and I pray the desire to be great would only glorify you. Please show me how to be great in and for your name Jesus. I am bursting with Joy at the moment. Thank you Fr. Mike for all you do I iwll pray for your protection as you evangelise and give life to a jaded people and church. The spirit of God is working throught you. You are great, God Bless you

Wow, it is incredible that we have already reached the end of the Early World period of the Bible! I feel like I have already learned several incredible lessons during this journey and once again I would like to thank you for taking the time to make this podcast. The big takeaway from today's Scripture is that we should pursue excellence rather than power or status. Nimrod and the people of Shinar built the incredible Tower of Babel to cement their names in history as great men rather than for the purpose of achieving excellence. As a result, their pursuits collapsed. I relate to this story because I feel like one of my biggest flaws is pursuing a great reputation rather than excellence. I pray that I can learn to glorify God through works rather than myself. I also found it ironic that the Biblical name Nimrod refers to the first "mighty" man, nimrod was often used as an insult where I grew up as well. However, given the outcome of this story, it is understandable that "nimrod" came to colloquially mean a dummie (not sure if that's the word's origin but it makes sense to me) It makes sense that Psalm 2 is grouped with this story, particularly Verses 10-12 warning the kings that they must "serve the Lord with fear" or risk facing His wrath. I pray that I can become a God-fearing man and serve Him well. Day 5 - 1/5/2022 (Also the 100th Comment on this video at the time of posting :) )
@MrBrunoUSA17 күн бұрын
“What a Nimrod” comes from the Bugs Bunny” cartoons. Elmer Fudd was a hunter who was hunting Bugs Bunny. He never caught him of course. At one point, Bugs says of Elmer Fudd “What a Nimrod!” and that is how the insult started.

10:32 Something I learned about the current use of Nimrod is that in the cartoon with Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd, Bugs calls Elmer “Nimrod” as a way to make fun of him for NOT being a mighty hunter, a sarcastic kind of insult. However, most people didn’t know the reference and assumed Bugs was calling him “stupid”. Thus, the language changed!
@aleconaco19913 жыл бұрын
I listen on Hallow and it's such a blessing. I don't know if you read these comments but I wanted to say is that nimrod became an insult because Buggs Bunny would taunt Elmer Fudd , calling him "Nimrod", ironically since Nimrod was a mighty hunter and Fudd wasn't at ALL. But nobody knew their Biblical characters enough to get the joke, so "nimrod" became an insult.

I'm pretty sure that our use of Nimrod as an insult came from Bugs Bunny cartoons. I'm 78 years old and we said it jokingly to each other in high school in the 1960s! So, you can see it's been used as an insult for a very long time. I enjoyed hearing Father Mike refer to it, as I'm sure many of us immediately thought of Bugs Bunny cartoons when we read it. On a serious note, thanks so much, Father Mike, for the wonderful service you're performing for us. I, for one, could not be more grateful. God bless.

THANK YOU, Fr. Mike. I just began your Bible in a Year podcasts, thinking that it would be a review for me as I have formally studied Theology and Scriptures, though that was some decades ago. I also wanted to read the Bible again, but at my own pace and no longer under the pressure of formal study. BUT from you, I'm learning other ways of understanding the stories of the early world period, and hearing other dimensions of those familiar stories. As I am part of some teams for lay formation programs in my home parish and diocese, I feel the need to revisit Scriptures as well as replenishing the well of our shared faith. God bless you.

I can’t help but see some parallels with the Tower of Babel and the way the World Wide Web gets used in our modern era , especially with the ever growing capabilities of an “all knowing” A.I. plus advancements in quantum computing. Amazing things come from the internet , like being able to enjoy the journey of this very podcast. 🙂❤️ However there are a lot of forms of negativity in social media and what gets promoted in popular worldly matters and a strive for likes. It doesn’t always bring out the best in people. Also emojis often take the place of actual communication. Chapter 11 says “ now the whole world had one language and few words” Sounds very fitting to today. Thank you again! ❤️🙏🏼🦋
