i had often wondered how much power companies like cat & cummins were missing by running heads basically as cast.with 13 to 15 liters, one would think small improvements would add up quickly.
@g__wizz3 жыл бұрын
Apples and oranges. The stock configuration are optimized for much less rpm than these guys play with. Plus it represents the era when most things were designed for fuel efficiency.
@ScottKenny19783 жыл бұрын
On gas engines, the heads are getting to the point of being close to race flow in the ports, but with a fairly small cam limiting breathing. Not sure about diesels.
@g__wizz3 жыл бұрын
@@ScottKenny1978 depends. The diesels run at much lower rpm, different theories on what is best for that under boost. The way they fuel is probably the best benefit, hence why even gas cars are going direct injection now.
@ScottKenny19783 жыл бұрын
@@g__wizz except that direct injection is least ideal at low RPM where cars spend most of their time. It's why the current generation of gas direct injection engines are still using port injectors for idle and low RPM, then direct injection once the engine speeds up. Not like a diesel that spends basically all its time at 2500rpm +-300 as long as the vehicle is moving.

@@pddofficial i was just busting yalls balls. Then cfm numbers arnt easy to remember. An i got a ? Where should i start if my 98 24v cummins has bad connection to lift pump I got all mew filters for the truck an im gonna test fuel pressure as well but whatbelse should i check. Al the grounds are good.
@keiferjanz31974 жыл бұрын
Ronnie Williz the lift pump on a VP44 cummins is controlled by the ECM. You need a multimeter. Disconnect the wiring and check if you have power and ground at the lift pump connector. If you have 12v then you have the potential voltage needed to run a lift pump but possibly not amperage or more likely the lift pump is failed. If you don’t have 12v then you need to trouble shoot if it’s a loss of ground or positive. Check for 12v by testing with a known good ground. To test ground simple test is to ether continuity from battery post to the pin of the connector. Or test voltage with test lead on battery positive and other lead on connector. This will tell you what side of the circuit to troubleshoot. If you have ground and no 12v then your next step is to determine if it is the ecm or harness. You can check this with finding a pin out of the ecm and back probing the connector for 12v, if you have 12v coming out the ecm then issue will be the wire I’m the harness and you can just run a new wire. You could also continuity test the harness. If the issue is no ground then simply splice a ground. Also a quick test is to power up the lift pump with test leads and make sure it works. If it does then another quick option is to just wire the lift pump with a relay, key on signal wire and a fuse .

I’d like to see, at least, an exhaust manifold strapped to the head to see more REAL WORLD numbers. It might take a 3rd guy to get the head on the Flo-bench, lol. I think there are gains to be made in a less restrictive exhaust manifold on full throttle only applications. The exhaust pulse has to be choked by the immediate 90 degree turn it has to make.... just saying I am curious at a reading of exhaust pressure (PSI) before the turbo on a race motor, does that play a factor in high HP motors.? just my $0.02 Thanks for any response
@g__wizz3 жыл бұрын
Ehhh exhaust manifold is just a funnel for the ultimate restriction.. your turbo. I would think that as long as the cross section was larger than the head it would not effect flow. That being said going bigger obviously has positive effect on egt.
@ScottKenny19784 жыл бұрын
Silly question: how much weight did you remove? Less than a pound?
@g__wizz3 жыл бұрын
Probably more than a pound honestly.. take a head apart, the swirl ports are pretty large..
@neorecormon17694 жыл бұрын
8:29 that only applies if you dont add any additional heat to the air
@g__wizz3 жыл бұрын
Chill out gale banks.. intercooler aka intake temps vs flow, flow will always win with hp.. plus intake temps specifically excessive ones are because turbo is running beyond its efficiency range..
