Love how you guys explain things, I remember a time when Hamilton was the only way to go if you wanted an upgrade. Now there's more choices! Appreciate the tid-bit explanation at the end, answered a question that popped in my head.

Also you have valve lash so there is another .010 and ,020" clearance you gain on the 60 lb springs. The triple spring setup I have on old yellow has over 100,000miles and I have had no issues with anything valvetrain but I have never turned it over 4800rpm.

I just wanted to let you all know I just recently stumbled across your videos and site. I am really impressed at the way you present usable and real world information vs. just vomiting out marketing material supplied by manufacturers. I am an analyst in computer systems and even watching the video on the failure analysis of your engine, motor oil additives, the exploding cummins, etc.. they were all incredibly informative. Not only about the application but methods and *WHY* you do certain things. I have only really recently started diving into full size truck engines and you all really do a great job of removing a lot of the mystery around much of it. Thank you!

well said there's so much you can do to control valves too. lighter push rod and retainer keepers rockers,valve them self, rocker ratio, lifters, there's just so much that can lighten your valve train springs are good start to this.

i have a mercedes benz OM606 on the engine stand waiting for paint and a borg warner s300, if you dont know anything about them, theyre pretty sweet. It is basically a DOHC cummins. its a 3.0 L inline 6, 4 valve per cylinder with a bosch inline injection pump similar to the p7100 and 100% stock will rev to 5000. you can find some videos of people turning over 7 grand with them too (not stock of course)

Don't need to get rid of pushrods, comp-cam did the valve train that had a LS over 11k rpms recently.

Interesting treatise on the springs..however the latest spin tryon results claims that the pushrod weight means absolutely nothing....the weight alleges that it’s only important on the rocker arm after the fulcrum....for years our shop promoted 3/8 pushrods ..but as I said the spintron has shown that the pushrod needs to be the biggest diameter needed to control the stability of the valve train.....not trying to promote myself as a expert..but certainly a race engine enthusiast

Does a conical valve spring have a slightly less installed seat pressure.? Due to the smaller diameter or does that not matter

VW uses over head cam in their small and medium size diesels and they are still fairly RPM limited until you get past like 2006
@chaseplugge3972
@chaseplugge3972 4 жыл бұрын
There's something I can't quite wrap my head around and I'm hoping someone can help me out. Why do people prefer automatic transmissions for diesels? I figured that the biggest con of an automatic would be the power loss due to less contact because it doesn't have a clutch like a manual does. If automatics are as popular as I've been seeing why do most semi trucks have an Eaton manual? I know that if you don't have the proper clutch to handle the power that it'll slip super easy but doesn't the overall design of a manual seem to be more reliable to handle the power and provide a quicker response when you floor the pedal?

Yes overhead cams add to rpm but horse power is just torque over time. No reason to push Diesel to extreme rpm’s. Crowder will build shaft rockers and light weight lifters. I spun a 600ci Chevy routinely past 9000 until someone explained average power. Their is a point of diminishing returns. I am curious why you don’t find roller cams in diesel motors but I imagine it is because it is not necessary as torque is so low.
@pddofficial
@pddofficial Жыл бұрын
There are lots of roller cam 5 to 6k RPM Cummins race engines out there in the sled pulling and top levels of drag racing. They are found in custom deck-plated race engines and the billet aluminum engines. Honestly, many that tried a roller setup end up going back to a DLC coated Tool Steel flat tappet design when they experience a freak link failure or roller lifter failure. It doesn't seem like wickedly aggressive cam lobe design has near the benefit so reliability wins in the end.

I gotta respectfully argue that statement if anybody was to ever produce a DOHC cummins based engine it’d be D&J precision machine without a doubt the machining and engineering that would go into a project like that is what they do on the daily
@jasontruman1215
@jasontruman1215 4 жыл бұрын
Jeremy Gress this is true but they would do it to a common rail. Still I want to see it, hotrodding like that is what motivates the factory stuff to be innovative. I mean really how much has the cummins platform changed? Not actually all that much.

Well shoot this is concerning.. I'm about to run one of your new heads with top hat seals, 60lbs and 188/220. Just got the motor back in haven't ran it yet. One thing i didn't notice you guys mentioned is vavle lash. Especially on the common .020 exhaust side. That would help in this situation. But unless heat expansion and oil take up reduces the interface clearance. Either way this doesn't sound like good news. Good way to destroy a new cam and what ever else.

@@pddofficial yeah i had you guys cut .030 into the piston, block hasn't been deck. Either way since this comment i have contacted you guys and are swapping my springs out for street conicals.
